This evening BISMOW was late at work & I had invited my close male friend over. By "close" of course I mean in a platonic way - he is good friends with BISMOW and he and I have been remiss of a good, long chat. We were able to talk about many things before parting ways (although I realized we sat rather formally at the opposite ends of my long table) but the funniest part was at the beginning of the evening...

Today was one of those days. The day where I wasn't that busy, where the office was eerily quiet in a post-holiday-weekend kind of way and I felt it. I felt this sad ache, where I missed the buzz of litigation. I missed the (crazy) client phone calls, the buzz in the office, the scanning of the schedule to make sure that I'd taken care of what needed to be done for the next court call, the next motion argument, the next trial...

Baby Z is perplexed as to why lawyers freak out so much about things like "bar exams" and "character and fitness" and "long handwritten exams on constitutional law." He thinks lawyers should relax a little bit more. He thinks certain lawyers should visit him more but he isn't pointing fingers...

For most the country the fourth of July means barbeque's and hotdogs and fireworks and sunburns. For the unlucky few taking the bar exam, it is The Weekend. The Weekend that you have to stop screwing around (if you haven't been taking it all that seriously) or the weekend that you have your nervous breakdown (because you've been taking it way too seriously) and suddenly it hits you...

I apologize profusely for the long, long hiatus from the blog. Somehow The Move morphed into THE MOVE and my computer was tucked away and then when I found it (Surprise!!) I had no home internet. That situation was remedied moments ago and now I have super crazy oh my goodness fast internet that takes my breath away...

Moving On

At the rate we are moving we should be into the new place by Christmas. Which is difficult considering I need to schedule a walk through and key hand over on my old apartment for sometime next week. A total conundrum I tell you. I suppose we could move faster but with the elevator not being legal to use (read: elevator works but doesn't have an emergency call button up & running and therefore it is about a $600 fine for using it) and the massive amount of books both BISMOW and I own, we keep bringing over winter clothes and random assortments of oven mitts as though somehow, miraculously, the books will lug themselves up the stairs...

If you are on the phone chatting while climbing down from a step ladder, stepping backwards with all your weight and stepping on the 2" edge of a Le Creuset cast iron baking dish with the arch of your foot is an incredibly painful experience. One that will cause you to painfully moan/moo like a cow whilst on the phone...

Behold, my Save-The-Dates: Of course mine don't look exactly like that because I changed the font, did thermography instead of flat print, only used chocolate brown ink, changed the envelope liner to chocolate brown, put in my own information, took out the palm tree, added a fleur-de-lis on the 3rd page, and did not write a cutesy note to my guests...

FBF, A Year In Review

Baby Z wants to help me go over what's happened in the past year.... he's pretty excited about Titi Daisy's upcoming birthday, even if he is too young to partake in the cake & champagne. Needless to say 25 was a big year. In addition to be that quarter of a century marker, it was kicked off by my first day of Saturday Bar/Bri- no rest for the weary I suppose...

But then I'm not sure...should I comment in the comments beneath yours? Or are you like me and often don't go back and scroll through comments on another persons blog because, I don't know, you have a life? BISMOW & I got a thumbs up/approval on our very own first home together. Of course anything could happen between our signature on the paper and a set of keys, but so far it is looking good. The new place has 1300 square feet of goodness and of course as a woman my mind has slipped to home decor...

Tonight I'm going to the Blackhawks game with my one & only Dysfunction Junction (hereinafter DJ). I won't lie, my heart always lies with the Detroit Red Wings but when I need a second team to love it is the Chicago Blackhawks. Please don't remind me they might be playing for the Western Conference Championship because the thought of it makes me stick my fingers in my ears, close my eyes and go "neeener neeeener neeeener I can't heeeaaar you" while twirling in circles...
