Intern Excitement

Posted on June 30, 2008
I thought I would drop a line or two about the cool things that you get to do when you're an intern.  I know being out here in D.C. gives me different opportunities, but there are still cool things that you can do. First, the research I do is really neat, because I know it will go toward making a difference...

Break, and back at school

Posted on June 02, 2008
The first year of law school is over. I took a break to decompress from the stress. I've been to Mexico and back. I had fun with my wife there and didn't talk law for one second. Now I'm on campus again getting ready for my first MBA class. I have always been a glutton for punishment and have been pursuing a joint degree...

Thoughts at the end of the 1L year

Posted on May 13, 2008
As my 1L year winds up, I figured I would post some thoughts and "brain droppings" (from George Carlin) I had. Second Semester compared to first:  Wow, what a difference.  This second semester has been a lot different than the first...

For Reasons I only know why..........

Posted on April 15, 2008
Here I sit in a period of introspection. A year has passed since I turned in my applications for law school. I also turned another year older today. Am I in a mid-life crisis? Probably, but nothing serious; This mid-life crisis is only a period of self-reflection on why I am doing this hellacious academic endeavor...

Importance of Education: Who is the Competition?

Posted on February 21, 2008
I have a personal journey to obtain knowledge. Most law students do, but I really enjoy wrapping my head around subjects that I have never had the opportunity to contemplate. Globalization and economics have always been at the front of my interests. I read a book a little while back called, The World is Flat: A Brief Economic History of the 21st Century by Thomas L...

A Law Degree Opens Doors....right?

Posted on February 15, 2008
Law degrees should open doors right? I know that everyone on campus has been looking and planning ahead for the summer. There has been a buzz on campus about the exclusive on campus interviews for the top 15% of students. If you are one of those that has the opportunity to interview on campus with the big firms, congratulations...

High Wire Balancing Act

Posted on February 13, 2008
Law school is a high wire balancing act. What are you balancing? Time, Relationships, and Mental Health! Keeping it all together is tough.Time is the one element that you cannot control. You can control what you do during the 24 hours of each day but you cannot make time slow down...

Exams, Grades, and Thoughts in general

Posted on January 22, 2008
Keeping a consistent blog is similar to writing a personal journal. I find it hard to consistently write but I have some general thoughts that I would like to put down.During the break I had the opportunity to visit with some friends and acquaintances...

What to do between semesters

Posted on January 06, 2008
This is one of the major conundrums of every 1L.  What should you do between the semesters?  The biggest thing to do is RELAX.  You just spent the last couple weeks cramming, so you definitely need a little time to unwind.  Catch up with family, write some emails to people you have been neglecting, balance the check book; these are all things that you can get back in order and use to help get your mind off the stresses you just went through...

Perils and Pitfalls of the Outline (Pt 1.5)

Posted on December 09, 2007
Ok, I figured it was time for another post.  We are in the middle of finals hell, and there is a small lag time until my next one so I thought I could squeeze out some time to write something.  Given that I have taken two finals already, I thought I could add some interim thoughts on outlines before grades come out and I find that I was completely wrong...

Tic, tock time is speeding up or coming to an end!

Posted on November 26, 2007
Quick note, The situation here at law school has been very crazy. I have not posted for a while because I have placed more emphasis on my studies. A final memo was due on Tuesday of last week. I also finished the great adventure of creating my personal outlines on each subject...

50 Ways to Market Your Practice | ABA Journal

Posted on November 12, 2007
I found this excellent article on how to market a Law Practice while surfing the ABA's web site. I think that this stuff is even important for those in law school. Let people know who you are outside of the school. You never know who you will meet. While working as a Certified Nursing Assistant, I had a pre-scripted line about who I was and where I was going...

Perils and Pitfalls of the Outline (Pt 1)

Posted on November 11, 2007
As the time for finals draws near, I thought I would drop a few lines about the infamous OUTLINES.  I will post at least one more part to this blog after I know how I did on finals, and how my outlines helped (or hurt depending on the situation)...

Distractions and Studying

Posted on November 06, 2007
Technology can be such a helpful tool. It can also be a huge distraction. I speak from personal experience. I'm a self-diagnosed tech-aholic. I absolutely dig technology. I am writing this post from a new plug-in for windows explorer. To keep my distractions to a minimum I schedule an hour a day to limit my distraction...

Resumes, Papers, Reading, Fun, Family...what to do

Posted on November 05, 2007
First I would like to say thank you to Tyler for letting me join with him in this endeavor. It is worth while to put these kinds of ideas and perspectives out there. I think it will be interesting and fun. This post is a follow up to something Tyler said about using a schedule...

Procrastination: Sorry, didn't get it done!!!

Posted on November 04, 2007
I'm making another shout out to a reader who suggested that I talk about Procrastination. Undergraduate work is more likely than not easier than Graduate course work. A typical B average student at my undergrad never stepped in the library. I personally worked 40 hours a week took 15 hours a week of school...

Holy Heck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted on October 30, 2007
It has gotten very crazy here in last couple of weeks. We had a memo due last week, a research project due this week, and another memo due in a couple of weeks. Things have just piled up. Between trying to keep up with the reading and making my outlines for each class, I have just about enough time to sleep...

Who's at fault? It's your fault!!!!

Posted on October 26, 2007
Personal responsibility or accountability is a hot topic in my tort class. Who is responsible for an accident? Who's at fault? Several law students that I talk with, and myself, feel that the law is taking personal accountability out of the equation. There are several blogs that discuss this same topic...

The Socratic Method- Pressure Cooker

Posted on October 21, 2007
After review a comment left by a visitor, I thought I would address his concern. The visitor stated that I had understated the importance of not becoming too involved in groups. I truly understand this concern and wish to elaborate why I understand.Law School is hard...

Advice for a 1L- interest groups

Posted on October 16, 2007
A 1L has a lot of information thrown at them in a hurry that first month of school. It seems like I am receiving fifty emails a day from different interest groups, faculty, and students. Interest groups are abundant at this law school. My advice is find out which interest groups have ties to the legal and business communities where the school is located...

Conversations Over Breakfast.....

Posted on October 11, 2007
Well I had an excellent opportunity to visit with professors one on one today. A student interest group put on a breakfast for the professors during which students were allowed to eat and talk with the professors. I got to talk with a couple of professors about international law...

Time Goes by Way too quickly

Posted on October 10, 2007
Hey,Time is flying! We've already smashed through a month or more of school. I thought I would start up a blog for a couple of reasons. It would be a good way of keeping a journal about my experiences in law school. I thought it would also be a good way of getting my name out in the world...
