We Interrupt This Program For a Comment

By "Daisy Duke"

ADVERTISEMENTS
Oh was I ever amused & tickled by your various comments on my last post. In fact, I'm often tickled & amused by your comments- so much so that I often want to reply back. But then I'm not sure...should I comment in the comments beneath yours? Or are you like me and often don't go back and scroll through comments on another persons blog because, I don't know, you have a life? Or should I edit the post to add a "post script" or is it easier to just start the NEXT post out with comments on the comments. And while I'm at it, do you send a thank you card for a thank you card? (Teeeheee)

I am so glad everyone likes my "wedding slippers" as I think I shall call them.....and that the little second line parade sounds fun. Frankly, it sounds fun to me too! The first band we called gave us a quote of $6800 (no I'm not kidding) and we were a little flummoxed. My cousin (Who I think reads around these parts, that is a story for another day but makes me sort of want to yell ABORT, ABORT, except, well, he's cool. I just don't need him telling any of our un-cool family members about these here parts, you hear me?!) offered to bring a boombox and pretend to play a saxophone but that seemed to be too much work to fake it. We thought about using the sound system on the trolley car only to find out there was no sound system on the trolley car (being old fashioned & all that). Then we called some local high schools with jazz bands, but they
were not "interested" even when we offered to make a donation to help them buy band uniforms. It was at this point that I was just going to give up on the whole silly parade, but then, finally some calls were made to second-line bands in New Orleans who set us up with a quartet in Savannah  with a much more reasonable price! And that's the last we will discuss anything tacky like money but my my, $6800 for 8 blocks and thirty minutes?!

I loved all of your bridesmaid gift ideas..... I have five wonderful women standing up with me although if I truly had my closest friends, I'd have seventeen bridesmaids- excessive don't you think? Instead I'm having all seventeen do the Cake Pull with me. I'm having 17 charms baked into my wedding cake with small ribbons coming out, and before BISMOW & I slice it, the ladies can gather round and pull a ribbon. The charm on the other end will symbolize my "wish" for them- health, love, prosperity, engagement, a baby, etc. And that is the Southern tradition of the cake pull.

Finally....wedding programs. Y'all seemed to be in quite the agreement that I needed them. Sigh. My Mother is on your side. I just always find myself after a wedding holding the program and feeling like I can't throw it away (The time! The money! The sentiment!) but that I don't really want it either. Inevitably I bring it home, let it sit on my desk, and throw it out a week later. Our wedding is indoors at a very old, beautiful church and the entire wedding should take about thirty minutes.  However, to make you and my Mother happy, I'm thinking about one of these darling little programs:

My invitations and save the dates are some beautiful (and very classic) William Arthur concoctions that I've been working on with Elizabeth Grace in Chicago, but these programs are a little more whimsical (my Mother likes the ribbon) and I found them at the Green Kangaroo. I like their price point better for something that I think should just be thrown away (smile)!

And finally, to The Artful Blogger; I vote for mutton chops, to the Alleged Lady; Scarlett O'Hara is always in style, and Namby? Oh dear. Oh dear. Oh dear. It is a good thing I love you so much.
