The End
Posted on April 04, 2009I had my last law school class last week and then handed in my major paper yesterday. There's a good chance I won't be back at the law school until graduation. I still have 3 more weeks of commitment at the Dal Legal Aid Clinic, but it's a different kind of work...
Last Law School Exam Ever
Posted on December 12, 2008I have finished my last law school exam ever! Next semester I'm doing my paper course and working at Dal's Legal Aid Clinic - so even though I will be working hard, it won't be exams. Don't get me wrong, I usually like exams, but law school exams are a special breed of exams...
The Last Domus Hallowe'en (for me)
Posted on November 02, 2008A number of people in my year have started to commemorate each of the "lasts" for this year. The first time I really felt that way was after I was walking home after Hallowe'en. The law school's student pub society Domus Legis has a students night at the local pub everyweek...
One Reason Why I Don't Want to Move Back to Toronto
Posted on October 03, 2008I grew up in Toronto. I liked the area where I grew up in. It was a nice middle to upper middle class neighbourhood that was far enough away from downtown that there was space, but close enough that it was on the subway line and easy to get to by both car and(with a bit of work) bike...
Ready, Set ... Sleep?
Posted on September 11, 2008I was already to go. I had my skiies shined up, grabbed a stick of juicy fruit ... I was ready for 3L. Classes started last week and things were looking up. I liked my first two classes, it was good to see the fellow law students and there seemed to be a good amount of interest in the intramural and shinny hockey that I was organising...
The End is in Sight
Posted on September 01, 20083L begins on Wednesday. Although I have been warned with cautious tales of the third year apathy which will no doubt set in shortly, I can honestly say I'm looking forward to starting school. More so than last year. Last year I didn't have much motivation to attend various Orientation social events or really get excited about seeing the people in law school or meeting the new First Years...
The Blog that will have abandonment issues when it grows up
Posted on March 25, 2008I've been neglecting this blog. It hasn't been on purpose. Not only have I been busy updating So, You Want to be a Pilot, Eh? but the fun luster of law school has warn off. Don't get me wrong, I'm still glad I went to law school, but I'm beginning to agree with the saying:In 1L - They scare you to deathIn 2L - They work you to death and,In 3L - They bore you to death...
Justice Rothstein
Posted on January 10, 2008Dal has a program called law hour where the law hour committee gets different speakers to come in and give a talk. This year so far we've had such notable speakers as Liberal MP Michael Ingantieff, Author of "When Lawyers Go Bad" Philip Slayton and today we had Justice Marshall Rothstein of the Supreme Court of Canada as a speaker...
Taxi!?
Posted on December 09, 2007The great thing about having a blog is that when you're annoyed by something, you can rant about it in a semi-public forum. So, that being said, I'm frustrated with taxis in Halifax. I want to start by saying for the most part I've been very impressed with the individual cab drivers in this city...
Star Sightings
Posted on December 08, 2007When I used to work at Skyservice I would run into celebrities on a weekly basis. It was pretty cool, but I kind of got used to it after a while. Celebrities are people too and some of them can be interesting to talk to and others can be jerks (most of them were really nice though)...
Book's Website
Posted on October 21, 2007We've set up a new website and blog for the book. Check out www.piloteh.com
So, You Want to Be a Pilot, Eh?
Posted on October 12, 2007It is done. After a year and a half of work, lots of research, lots of networking, stessing about the manuscript and being frustrated by the editing, my book, "So, You Want to Be a Pilot, Eh?" has been published. Although the experience contained a few more bumps than expected, I had a really good time writing it...
Has the beast been slain? Almost
Posted on September 06, 2007Things are almost done. As Winston Churchill said: "Writing a book is an adventure. To begin with, it is a toy and an amusement; then it becomes a mistress, and then it becomes a master, and then a tyrant. The last phase is that just as you are about to be reconciled to your servitude, you kill the monster, and fling him out to the public...
September! Already?
Posted on September 01, 2007It's been a busy week. My Mum's getting married this evening so we've been back home helping get ready for that. Although, helping get ready usually means just staying out of her way while she's at her fiance's doing all the organizing. The return to school is looming on the horizon and the book is nearing completion...
Blink and you might miss it
Posted on August 18, 2007Today was my last day at work. Overall it went really well and I enjoyed my time. The comments from the informal evaluation were all positive, I'll find out more from the more formal evaluation in a couple of weeks. Two weeks off. It'll be vacation-ish...
Holding Pattern
Posted on July 28, 2007I was actually supposed to be flying right at this very moment. After almost two years, I booked a check out in a C172 at Greenwood Flight Centre so that I could go up every once and a while. Although I don't have tonnes of extra cash sitting around, I was really getting the flying itch...
The Pleasant Routine
Posted on July 24, 2007Ah Summertime. While most of my days are spent inside a glass tower, I've gotten into a nice routine whereby most of my days are filled.Work keeps me quite busy but I have to say after 2 and a half months I'm really enjoying it. There's always going to be lots to learn, but I feel more comfortable with things and with what's expected of me...
From the Flight Deck
Posted on July 10, 2007When I worked in Thompson, my airline had an agreement with Air Canada to be able to fly on ZED fares. Basically, employees from my airline could travel on low seniority stand by for a relatively cheap price. Regular Air Canada employees could fly for cheaper and would get on the flights before we would, however, we were still pretty lucky to get such good fares...
I want to live like cranky people
Posted on June 24, 2007I was at the Dalplex twice today. First was a squash game in the morning which while I always provide my opponent a challenge, he always seems to just beat me. That's ok though, it's great exercise and a good time. The second time was for a Badminton game with some friends which is also a surprisingly good work out...
Logdriver's Waltz
Posted on June 12, 2007I really like law, but sometimes I wish I were a logdriver.
Owner of a Lonely Heart
Posted on June 10, 2007I was driving back from squash this morning. Sweaty and happy from the workout I was listening to the radio. It reminded me of a story from undergrad. I was sitting beside an acquintance in a class in undergrad. She had decided to tune out for most of the class and was working on a crossword from one of those celebrity gossip magazines...
The Harbour
Posted on June 02, 2007After much thought, I have decided that as exciting as some of the stuff that I'm working on is, I'm not going to talk about anything work related. I really like this job and don't want to even come close to breaking any confidentiality agreements. I will comment that I am feeling much more comfortable with things now and that while I still really don't know very much, I generally have a better idea of where to find the answers to things...
a post.... well, sort of
Posted on May 24, 2007I apologize for the lack of posts. Although a fair amount of exciting things have been going on, I'm feeling kind of drained creatively. Don't get me wrong, I'm really enjoying work, the weather is still cold but slowly warming up, the book is moving along and I even got to play squash for the first time since coming to Halifax and I didn't suck...
The depth of blogging
Posted on May 15, 2007I haven't posted a whole lot since getting back to Halifax and starting work. While part of this is an aversion to sitting in front of a computer screen once I'm home, it also has to do with the fact that I'm still going through in my head what I want/should blog about...
Drinking from the proverbial firehose
Posted on May 11, 2007It's hard to describe how this week went. I think that I'll really have to take a few weeks and then look back on how it went. Starting any new job is always a little intimidating. It's kinda like trying to merge into fast moving traffic. You're at a stand still while everybody is zipping along...
Day One (of sorts)
Posted on May 07, 2007It's 6:50am here in Halifax and I've already been up for over two hours. I'm still used to Europe time. I was asleep by 9:30pm last night. This isn't a bad thing as I start my job today. I'm quite excited, although I'm hestiant to get up and shower and shave, I'm trying to keep the scruffy look for as long as possible!I'll put up some pics from the trip soon and hopefully have something a little more exciting to write about...
morning
Posted on April 30, 2007It's 9am in Geneva. I've taken to getting up early. The garbage collection at 745 outside my window didn't help early. Unfortunately, my travel partner likes sleeping in for a really long time. That's ok though, gives me some time to relax. Plus, considering I'm now used to getting up at roughly 4am Halifax time, I think I'll have a better chance at getting up early for my job once I get back...
In Geneva
Posted on April 28, 2007I have so much to write about, but it's been a long day with a lot of traveling and a lot of walking and switching trains. As well, the blogger dashboard is showing up in German right now. I'm currently in the hostel in Geneva and am looking forward to a good sleep and a relaxing day tomorrow hanging around down by the Lake...
