Going To The Chapel

By "Daisy Duke"

ADVERTISEMENTS
I know some of you are not all that interested in wedding updates. Those "some of you" are same ones who roll your eyes when I post yet ANOTHER photo of Baby Z. I'm sorry but who can resist this kind of striped cuteness:

But alas this isn't a Baby Z post but a wedding post. SOME readers have asked me for updates. They want to know what I'm wearing! Or planning! Or mulling over.
These are my shoes for my wedding day. I think they are adorable, bridal, classic, not stark white, and most of all comfortable! I ordered them from Nordstrom, they are the Jeffrey Campbell "pearl" flat.

Flowers: I've selected cream hydrangeas, cream roses, cream peonies, cream dahlias, dark brown roses (from Argentina I think?) and some daisys with some green berries as an accent. I was going for a classic color palate with a Southern influence. We have some short small centerpieces in four inch square vases, and some tall "fountainy" centerpieces in three foot high skinny vases- a visual impact if you will!

Food: The food hasn't been selected yet but BISMOW and I have opted for some appetizers & desserts rather than a full sit down dinner. We will have plenty of tables but no assigned seating. This is a destination wedding and a lot of family & friends haven't seen each other in years- we want them to have an opportunity to mingle & sit where they like rather than where I've arbitrarily chosen to put them. The food we know we are having..... fried oysters, ham biscuits, lots of cheese, a roasted beef tenderloin station, a chef attended risotto station & plenty of shrimp cocktail.

Dessert & Cake: We will have individual creme brulee's in case anyone isn't a cake fan & the grooms cake is a huge chocolate cake/chocolate frosting University of Michigan themed monstrosity! The wedding cake is a tiered red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting & cascading hydrangeas and roses coming down it. Not an inch of fondant to be found on either cake!

Rehearsal Dinner: The gentlemen are wearing navy blue blazers & Vineyard Vines ties & the ladies are wearing sundresses. We are dining at Paula Deen's Lady & Son's restaurant in a private room in the back. I'm excited to show our wedding party a true taste of the South- as butter laden as it might be! (No one can accuse us of not feeding them!)

Transportation: BISMOW & I and our respective wedding attendants & parents will be (separately) brought to the church in an old fashioned (white!) trolley car. After the wedding we will have pedi-cabs for hire to shuttle guests back to their hotels or out to the bars. Bismow and my transportation from the wedding to our hotel is a surprise that I'm assured I'll love. We are leaving the reception with our guests holding two foot long sparklers rather than rice or flower petals- I'm hoping for some amazing photos of this!

Second Line Parade: We are having a traditional New Orleans style second line parade from the church to the reception- BISMOW & I are going to ride in a horse drawn carriage and our guests will follow behind to the beat of a four piece jazz band with the traditional second line parasols & hankies. The trolley will bring up the rear for our guests who don't want to walk....and in a funny twist, we had to purchase a parade permit & pay the Savannah police to escort us the 8 blocks from venue to venue! My Grandparents think that we are sure to draw a crowd- but we won't be throwing any beads so I doubt we are that interesting!

There are some things I just can't decide on- my veil (mantilla, finger tip or bird cage), my hair (down or half up), French manicure versus solid pale pink nails..... programs at the wedding (to do or not to do) and what I should give my bridesmaids..... we haven't settled on the bar package and I can't narrow down the last of the menu. I'm not sure if I should provide a basket of inexpensive flip flops near the dance floor for tired tootsies and or what I want the guests to sign -I'm debating between a Low Country coffee table art book or a picture matte. I don't know if I should get photos of BISMOW & I framed to put on the tables or near the cake or if that seems silly...and I really can't decide on my cake charm set(s) as I need 17 of them!!

Whew. What am I missing?
