Suretyship

Posted on June 03, 2008
Suretyship sure is fun. Except not really. It was only four pages though & then we got to discuss essay answers & then write our very own very first essay answer. In which I skirted the issues beautifully. I was on the right track. Sort of. I earned approximately ...

Deviled Eggs & Commercial Paper

Posted on June 02, 2008
Why yes, they do go together quite nicely now don't they?Commercial Paper ala Daisy:Blah blah blah. Maker Makee. Blah blah blah. If people didn't write checks I wouldn't have to memorize the holder in due course rules...again.Deviled Eggs ala Daisy:I won't begin to press my feelings about deviled eggs on you in the sense of what to put in them- vigorous debates could be had about dill or sweet pickle (dill is best), to paprika or not to paprika (I like a little color on top myself so I say sprinkle away), if some egg white should be in the filling mixture (I say yes, best way to use the eggs that boil all funny and can't hold any filling), if celery is necessary (do you like crunchy food? if so, throw some celery in) to mayo or not to mayo (as much as I dislike mayo, a dallop of real, full fat Hellman's mayo is necessary- don't even think about cheating and using Kraft (it is for Yankees according to my Grandmother) or, yee gads, Miracle Whip which is just for the dogs if you ask me) and of course, mustard or no mustard (always use mustard, of the cheap yellow variety, for good color and flavor)...

Whew

Posted on June 01, 2008
My birthday was, in fact, phenomenal. I woke up and opened my lone birthday gift that didn't get opened early....thanks to Eddie & HASWOE for my fleur de lis bundt cake pan that I've had on my Christmas & Birthday list for 3 years running.... it now resides with my new deviled egg platter from PAG...

25 & Still Kicking

Posted on May 31, 2008
Happy Birthday to me?In the past year I have:- Found maintained & kicked ass at a hard to get & harder to suceed at legal clerking job which I have to continue to maintain was a good experience even without the offer- Finished & graduated from law school- Watch my brother hit rock bottom but then, finally, start to crawl his way back up- Made some amazing new friends, both real life & internet- a big "you rock" to Eddie & HASWOE, and my "blog supporters" Katie, NOLA & Lanny (seriously you guys are awesome!) and of course the new Big City Blog Krewe, Namby, Grace, AH, and BISMOW...

Thanks for all the notes of encouragement in the comments section last time...it is amazing how much my "internet family" helps me, so thanks to y'all for everything. In the meantime, my world, as I know it, continues to crumble a bit more around the edges...

Crim Law

Posted on May 30, 2008
Please see Anonymous Hottie for the best description of Crim Law. Whew. Enough of the depressing talk. Thank you so much to all the previous bar-exam-takers & sufferes that informed me I'm neither the first (or the last) person to go through this nonsense...

Torts, After 17 Practice Questions

Posted on May 28, 2008
I. Is. An. Idiut. And the bar exam is evil and I hate it.I will now be outlining and note-carding in a vain attempt to learn something. Anything.Foot? Hello! Meet Mouth!(Cue scene of Bar Examination Gods laughing at previous statements of having worked in the torts arena for eons...

Torts, Day 2

Posted on May 28, 2008
Well. Day 2. Where do I start?Well my number one observation is this: the entire section on proximate cause was wrong. Dead. Freaking. Wrong. Seeing as how I just wrote a 20 page bench brief for a judge as well as a 12 page Motion to Reconsider on the issue, I'm fairly familiar with the concept on both a national and state level...

New LBA Theme Until Futher Announcement a/k/a, The Bar Exam Is Over

Posted on May 27, 2008
Today was the first day of Bar/Bri, which is the incredibly expensive bar prep course for all newbie law school graduates (or the unlucky few re-cycling back through after a failed attempt or many...) to learn all the things about the law that they clearly missed in their three years of law school...

Surprise!

Posted on May 24, 2008
Whew. I'm back from my trip up to a resort town in the Great Lakes. My Great-Uncle lives up there who fits the bill of "eccentric wealthy old coot." At one point he carried my grandmother's suitcase across his property in his front loading tractor (he keeps it around "just in case") to prove a point that it was too heavy to carry up the stairs...

Stick A Fork In Me

Posted on May 20, 2008
I'm done. I graduated. I have many stories, but for now I'm heading off for a quick vacation with my Mom & Grandma until Friday.Catch you on the other side....where we can discuss my Grandmother ranting about Yankees on a street corner in the Big City...

Graduation

Posted on May 17, 2008
Tomorrow I graduate from law school, but today I entertained some of my family that are in town for the big event.I come from a large family, with many degrees, but with the exception of my Great Uncle, who is also my Godfather, I am the only lawyer. Today, my Great Aunt & Uncle, (also my Godparents) came into town for the big event...

Superman Potter

Posted on May 15, 2008
Apparently the entire point of graduation garb is to make you look like a moron.A moron who attends Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry and, for the fun of it, made a Superman inspired set of school robes just in case the Hogwarts Express was about to run over some poor wizard and you must, in the blink of an eye and faster than a speeding bullet, save the poor maiden...

Done.

Posted on May 14, 2008
With law school.Such an odd feeling.

It Confuses Me

Posted on May 13, 2008
That in the coffee shop by my work two of the employees have a British accent...sometimes. And sometimes they have an American accent. This is odd, no?That's what I thought. I'm glad the internet is behind me on this one.In the meantime I'm searching my inner soul for the uplifting! the funny! the satirical! and all I'm coming up with is woefully unemployed! $150,000 in debt! law school is over priced and underrated! i have no job!But I am excited for my family to come out for graduation this weekend...

Thanks But No Thanks

Posted on May 12, 2008
Lets just say it was the worst. interview. ever. The firm kept me waiting for 30+ minutes, took me back, complimented my resume, showed their complete ignorance on the type of law they supposedly practice and then told me that they were sorry, but they had misread my cover-letter and didn't realize I wasn't already licensed to practice law, so they were sorry but there was not a position available for me...

Supreme Something

Posted on May 10, 2008
So. This whole "not having a job offer" really sucks. But in an effort to not be a big ball of disappointed resentment, I have decided I must look at the positives. My job offered me an amazing experience that even some licensed attorney's don't get until their fourth or fifth year...

Unemployed

Posted on May 09, 2008
I didn't get the job.Nor did I walk out on them as I have some unresolved projects. That interview on Monday suddenly looks a whole lot better.

One Time I Failed. At Life.

Posted on May 08, 2008
Shocking but true. Last night I took my last final ever (And yes Katie, I think we might secretly be related, but only if you have as many crazies in your family as I do. And oh man, do I.) and I'd say it was time to break open the bubbly and toast me being done with law school but I have to finish the last little bit of a project so technically I'm not quite done...

J-O-B Status

Posted on May 07, 2008
I still haven't heard anything. But everytime my phone rings or I get a buzz from reception I get really nervous and my stomach starts churning. So I have that going for me.I also have an interview at another firm on Monday because, people, you can't put all your eggs in one basket...

Two Posts. One Day. Contain Yourselves.

Posted on May 06, 2008
Overheard in court today:Your honor I know we are behind in this case but we have a small problem. You see, one of the Defendant's isn't readily available...um...he's an astronaut. And in other news....I've been asked to a photography shoot as a "model" for some upcoming Law School publications...

Buyouts & Takeovers

Posted on May 06, 2008
Lets take a break from the seriousness that was the last post (although I'm very glad that so many of you identified with it and enjoyed it and I hope all of you who did end up with your college sweetheart know that I know that each of us are different and I'm just part of the group that was so entirely not meant to end up with my college boyfriend...

Chapter 3

Posted on May 04, 2008
When I started law school in the fall of 2005 I was alone. Utterly, completely alone. As my senior year of college began to speed towards graduation I had a plan. I was moving to the Big City, far away from Utah (where my parents were) and the South (where the rest of my family was)...

To Do

Posted on May 03, 2008
I'm in the office on a Saturday with some goals of wrapping up some work-work & some school-work. There is something nice about the office on Saturdays- wear your jeans, come in & get things done without being blindsided or side tracked by anyone else's agenda's...

Nerves. Lotsa Nerves.

Posted on May 01, 2008
I've been informed (with an apology for the delay) that I'm to meet with Mr. BPLF next week regarding employment.Oh vomit.I know I continually harp on the subject but between BISMOW and I, our student loans amount to a realllly nice mortgage. So employment (of the paying variety) is necessary to do things like eat...

Dear Bar Exam:

Posted on April 30, 2008
The bar exam is really, really screwing with my chi. Or my mojo. Or whatever you call it.Point A: I have typed every single exam in law school I have been allowed to type...which has been about 90% of them. The bar exam employs the same fancy schmancy softwear to "safely" type your exam...

Romance At Its Finest

Posted on April 29, 2008
Last night BISMOW came home with a card, flowers and ingredients for homemade chicken noodle soup. He then proceeded to make me a huge pot of chicken noodle soup and give me tissues & a blanket so I could watch tv on the couch while eating a little dinner...

Sick: Updated

Posted on April 28, 2008
I'm sick as a dog. So is half my office. If I live through this and find the person that gave me this horrific cold/flu/toxic virus I shall squish them. The Bad: I have the flu. Officially. The influenza virus. The Doctor said so.The Good: I have that new flu-prescription so I only feel like The Death for approximately four days instead of ten...

Vote

Posted on April 25, 2008
Well that last pair of shoes went over well with The Namby Pamby, who privately told me that he thought they were borderline the most hideous shoes ever. HASWOE told me they exuded causual chic summer, which is more of what I was going for. But in the meantime...

I Deserve It

Posted on April 24, 2008
I've discovered that Federal Jury duty means I'm "on-call" for three weeks...and I could basically have to go down to the courthouse every other day for three weeks if they are having jury trials and if I don't get picked I have to come back again. I can't even discuss how angry this makes me and my bank account & calendar that have been planning on my studying for the bar exam via a very expensive & non-refundable course all summer long...
