Tomorrow I graduate from law school, but today I entertained some of my family that are in town for the big event.

I come from a large family, with many degrees, but with the exception of my Great Uncle, who is also my Godfather, I am the only lawyer. Today, my Great Aunt & Uncle, (also my Godparents) came into town for the big event. Over lunch my Godparents handed me a card. In it was a note:

"Daisy.... when I graduated from Southern Law School many years ago, your Great-Great Grandmother gave me two shares of Large Southern Company Stock. Over the years I held onto every one, and now, I have over 1000 shares. I have never touched them until now, when I bestow five shares to you. I ask that you watch them grow until the next lawyer in our family graduates...and then it is up to you to hand a few more down. Enjoy."

I wept right there are the table.

My family has a long history of being shareholders in Large Southern Company, each with a story of acquiring their shares that is more interesting than the last. We have one rule- we don't sell it. We watch it grow, we hand it down. It has had good runs and bad, but it remains a steady reminder of our family, a part of the country we love, and of sticking through things in thick & thin.

I couldn't be prouder...of my family and my "portfolio".
