I'm a Mac
Posted on November 16, 2009I've been a Mac user for about 5 years now. The reason I switched is because I was absolutely fed up with Windows and all of the XP vulnerabilities, viruses, crashes, etc. My friends have been known to call me an Apple whore because I have multiple iPods, an iphone, a laptop and various other apple accessories that are far overpriced but oh so fabulous...
Adventures in Lawyering #2
Posted on November 07, 2009The new docket that I have been assigned to is somewhat of a nightmare, fairly disorganized and totally intimidating, but at least it provides for some decent entertaining moments throughout the day. Overheard in court this morning while judge was setting conditions of defendant's bond on the record:Judge: Mr...
Nut Up or Shut Up*
Posted on November 04, 2009Today was day #12 of my adventures as a DA. Although I did a short stint in the training division (minor traffic cases only) last summer, I started 2 weeks ago feeling rusty and like I definitely needed to find my footing again. Today I was finally starting to feel comfortable, like I finally was starting to get the hang of things...
Punked
Posted on October 29, 2009The people who run the admin side of my office really are morons. The office recently purchased software that will automatically make phone calls and send emails whenever the office is closed or opening late due to inclement weather. Idiot human resources director, who caused all the previous drama over the summer, is the person responsible for programming the information into the system...
Adventures in Lawyering
Posted on October 28, 2009So far life as a lawyer has been fairly uneventful, which I suppose is good because it means that I haven't been fired and that I still have my bar license. However, that doesn't mean that working in the traffic division isn't entertaining, it's not as interesting on an academic type level as the felony division was, but the outrageous stories and excuses I get to hear on a daily basis really do make my day...
When Will This Start to Feel Normal?
Posted on October 22, 2009I have the piece of paper framed on the wall that says "Juris Doctor."I have the 5 digit Useless State attorney registration number. I have my name on the door to an office with a window.I have a secretary who takes my messages and does all kinds of other extraordinary things...
And So It Begins
Posted on October 16, 2009I'm all official now, got my attorney license number yesterday and was sworn in as a Deputy DA today. It didn't really hit me that I'm a real attorney with a real job until I went to my benefits orientation meeting and learned about those adult things I've always heard my parents talk about, 401(k)s, IRAs, HMOs, PPOs, etc...
When I Grow Up
Posted on October 14, 2009I'm getting sworn in as an attorney in Useless State tomorrow morning, and then on Thursday I'm getting sworn in as a Deputy DA. I can't believe it's already been 3 years since I started trying to figure out exactly how to read a case, how to prepare for law school classes, and how to outline, at the time it seemed like the end of law school was light years away...
Come Back Down
Posted on October 10, 2009Thanks to all of you for the congrats, it's been a pretty amazing few days. For the most part I've been on cloud nine. But it all has to end at some point and I have to come back down to reality. The mandatory staff meeting we had yesterday afternoon at work managed to do just that...
Pinch Me
Posted on October 08, 2009Three days ago I wrote about how there were 3 scenarios for what would happen today. I have no idea how it happened, and it seems entirely too good to be true, but somehow scenario #3 happened: I passed the bar and got my dream job. I got the fantastic phone call about the job this afternoon...
Useless Dicta, ESQUIRE!!!!!!!!!
Posted on October 08, 2009I have no idea how I did it, but some how I managed to pass the Useless State Barzam. Commence partying IMMEDIATELY :)
T Minus 60 hours
Posted on October 06, 2009The results of Useless State Barzam will be posted sometime around 9:00am on Thursday. That's a little more or less than 60 hours from now. I haven't slept well for the past 3 nights, and every time I think about Thursday morning I get a little naseous...
Get Back on the Roller Coaster
Posted on September 29, 2009As if I haven't been through enough of a roller coaster with my job in the last 5 months (all of which are detailed here I'm apparently about to hop back on the roller coaster. HR director emailed all of the interns today to set up interviews with the elected DA later this week...
You've Got the Wrong #
Posted on September 25, 2009Public Service Announcement: if you are making a phone call to try and set up a drug deal or some other sort of criminal activity, make sure you dial the right phone number. Around 3:45 this afternoon as I was putting the finishing touches on the brief that is due first thing Monday morning my office phone rang...
Help A Sister Out
Posted on September 23, 2009Fashionista has a dilemma so I told her I'd see if I could help a girl out by getting some insight from the bloggy world. She's known this guy, we'll call him B, for about five years now. They were pretty close friends in college but fell out of touch when she went to law school and he went abroad with the Peace Corps...
When Lawyers Try to be Docs
Posted on September 16, 2009We had our annual 3 day training conference this week. Most of it was painfully boring and as you looked around the room you could tell that the 80 attorneys trapped in the room were all visualizing various ways to stab their own eyes out. One of our last sessions today was on Psychology in the Courtroom...
Vote for Pedro
Posted on September 09, 2009The ABA Journal is currently taking nominations for blawgs to include in their annual Blawg 100 list that comes out in December. Click here to vote for Pedro!*DISCLAIMER* I've never seen Napoleon Dynamite so I'm not really sure what all the "vote for pedro" hype is/was about, but somehow after a glass of wine and an evening of watching Nadal/Monfils US Open match it seemed like an appropriate theme for this little PSA.
The Bucket Post Law School/Post Barzam To Do List
Posted on September 09, 2009About three weeks before the barzam I began compiling a list of things that I wanted to do once the craziness of the last three years of my legal education roller coaster finally came to an end. It's been more than a month since the barzam ended and so far, I'm failing miserably on my list...
OMG Drama Follow-up
Posted on September 08, 2009Got an email from a reader today wondering what happened with the flowers that Trivia Boy sent to The Rebel a couple of weeks ago, so here's the update! She got the flowers just as planned and apparently texted Trivia Boy the following day (mid-morning) with just a short "thanks...
Wake Me Up When September Ends
Posted on September 07, 2009The month of August flew by so fast that I really don't quite know where the entire month went. Somehow now that the calendar has turned to September time seems to be creeping by. I've had no less than 4 nightmares, premonitions, delusions dreams about barzam results in the past week...
Got Lawyer?
Posted on August 31, 2009Maybe law school and studying for the barzam came in handy after all. I had to sign my apartment lease renewal today. My lease expires today and I've been going back and forth for 3 weeks now with the idiot girl who works in the leasing office to get her to actually do the renewal paperwork so I can sign the damn thing...
What Comes Next?
Posted on August 27, 2009I've been back at my internship for about 3 weeks now and I absolutely love it. I get along really well with all of the attorneys, paralegals, and secretaries in the department that I work in and the work that I get to do is interesting, engaging, and sometimes just downright fun...
OMG Drama!
Posted on August 25, 2009A week before the barzam I mentioned that Trivia Boy has a huge crush on one of my friends, the rebel. While a few of us in the crew know that he's smitten for her, no one really knows if Rebel herself has any ideas about this crush. She's been wrapped up in an on again off again thing with another guy for the last 6 months or so and seems to be very preoccupied at the moment with that...
Seems Like it Happened Only Yesterday
Posted on August 21, 2009If we are lucky in our lifetimes we will have the privilege of knowing at least one person who touches us, inspires us, and pushes us more than any other person we've ever met before. For me that person was my ballet teacher who I had throughout middle school, high school, and college...
Rested, Relaxed, Tan, and Back to Work
Posted on August 20, 2009I've returned from my trip to Mexico and it was fantastic. I had a great couple of days with Fashionista in Useless City for a couple of days before we headed south of the border and the week was capped off by getting some much needed rest and relaxation...
Best and Worst of 1L
Posted on August 20, 2009As the 2009-2010 school year gets underway around the country, several other blogs have written about the topic "Best and Worst of 1L." Basically, just share your best memory and your worst memory of your 1L year- for all of you out there who have made it through the 1L battle please chime in!Worst 1L Memory...
Useless Thoughts on the Barzam
Posted on August 14, 2009I'm still on vacation in Mexico- this is a prescheduled post to give y'all something to read over the weekend :-)It's been a little over two weeks since i took the barzam in Useless State. In the days immediately following the exam I kept feeling like I should write a final post reflecting on the whole process, but every time I sat down to write it my brain just hurt from the whole process and I ended up walking away from it...
Insomnia
Posted on August 11, 2009This summer I've had an increasing problem with insomnia. It doesn't happen every night, but at least once a week (and sometimes more if I'm really unlucky) I have one of those nights where I'm able to sleep 3.5-4 hours and then for no reason at all I'm wide awake...
Back to School
Posted on August 11, 2009Orientation for new students begins at Useless Law today. I really can't believe that I'm already done with law school. While I was in law school it felt like it would never end. By the end of my 1L year orientation seemed like it had happened a decade earlier...
Return to the Real World
Posted on August 04, 2009I was a crazy crazy person when I agreed two weeks ago to return to my internship today, a mere 4 days after finishing the barzam. I had plenty of rest and fun during those 4 days off, and I was excited to go back today, but despite all of that getting up and actually getting dressed for work was brutal...
Great Summer Reads
Posted on August 02, 2009Alright everyone, I need your help! In less than two weeks I'll be venturing to the lovely tropical paradise south of the border to soak up some sun and powdery soft white sand. I need some reading recommendations. Last summer on my beach vacation I zoomed through the first three books of the Twilight series (the fourth book hadn't come out yet)...
The Morning After
Posted on August 01, 2009Champagne and I really don't get along very well. Champagne is that friend we all have, the one who when we're around them we do things we would never ever ever do without them. Oh champagne.Thursday night was the big barzam is over celebration with tons of people from useless law...
That's a Wrap
Posted on July 30, 2009The two dreaded days at the end of July have come and gone, I'm still alive, and frankly those two days went waayyyy faster than I thought they would, which is a good thing. Whether or not I passed the minimum competency test to become a licensed lawyer is a big fat question mark, but the important thing is at least for now is that it is done and over, nothing but a bad and very distant memory...
We Will We Will Rock You
Posted on July 27, 2009Dear Barzam,All of us barzamers across the nation who have spent our entire summer getting ready for tomorrow's battle are ready. Prepare to be rocked!Sincerely,BarzamersIn other news, my bar preparation today consisted of getting everything ready for tomorrow: packing snacks, lunch, making sure computer was in working order, etc...
Final Stretch
Posted on July 24, 2009The weekend that seemed like an eternity away 2 months ago at law school graduation is now upon us: the final weekend before the bar exam. Before I started this summer I had heard from many people who had already taken this exam that the final weekend before you really need to slow down with the studying and definitely take the Monday before the exam totally off to charge up for the 2 days of exam day hell...
Up and Down and Up Some More
Posted on July 23, 2009My summer has been full of ups and downs. Right after the total high of law school graduation I had some work drama that threw me for a loop and put me in a pretty good funk to start off bar prep. Then bar prep itself has been up and down. I go between feeling like this exam is totally manageable, minimum competency, to feeling like it is absolutely impossible and that I haven't put in enough effort, focus, or work to pass it...
Life Outside The Bar
Posted on July 22, 2009By this time next week I will be starting the final day of summer from hell. The Lexis rep at my school told me a few months ago that finishing the bar is as close to the feeling of getting out of prison that she ever wants to experience in her life...
Bar Exam Realization
Posted on July 20, 2009Useless Law is kind of notorious in the city because for the past few years we've had a low bar passage rate for first time takers, it usually hovers right around 65-70%. Meanwhile the higher ranked cheaper state school up the road tends to have a pass rate in the 80's...
Toxic
Posted on July 15, 2009Ms. Fabulous and I have been studying for the bar together. While I adore her and am so glad that she is one of my friends, I came to the conclusion this afternoon that for the next two weeks I've got to cut the ties. She's been stressed from the very beginning...
Bar Exam Confidential
Posted on July 15, 2009Shout out to Law School Ninja who blogged yesterday about the ubiquitous pre-law read, Law School Confidential. While she is at the beginning of her 3 year law journey, I had totally forgotten that there is a chapter at the very end of that book that talks about the barzam...
Secured Transactions for Dummies
Posted on July 15, 2009After a totally gruelling day of PMBR (which I'm not entirely convinced was worth it, but I guess it's always good to have your butt kicked by hard questions so you don't get complacent) I decided that I had to buckle down and spend some quality time with Secured Transactions...
Barzam Madness
Posted on July 12, 2009I've spent a grand total of 14 hours at Useless Law School today, and my motivation to study has finally returned thanks in part to the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack doing the trick once again. The barzam is scary close on the calendar. I have a mountain of things I still have to learn...
To Tan or Not To Tan?
Posted on July 11, 2009Forget the Barzam for the moment, in 5 weeks I'll be relaxing with Fashionista on a beautiful white sand beach in Tulum, Mexico, with one drink in each hand. I simply cannot wait! However, seeing as how I've been cooped up inside since the end of May studying for the bar, and I'm pretty fair skinned, I look like like snowman...
Motivation Where Art Thou?
Posted on July 09, 2009By this time 3 weeks from today I will be downtown in Useless City celebrating being DONE with the barzam with my friends. While the thought of being done in a little less than 3 short weeks is thrilling, the fact that there really isn't that much time left to study is terrifying...
Not Your Normal July Barzam Freak Out
Posted on July 03, 2009I think I've figured out why I'm not exactly flipping out about the bar exam. It's because I'm really more scared of what comes after the bar. As much as studying sucks, and as much as I have actually missed working, the realization that in 3 short weeks there will be no more class, no more studying, no more mid afternoon coffee runs to the Starbucks across the street from Useless University with friends has really put me into a funk...
Little Blue Box
Posted on July 03, 2009If diamonds are a girl's best friend, then the little blue box from Tiffany & Co. is the second best. After a fairly relaxing day that did not include bar exam studying I went home to my parent's. When I arrived I noticed a box hanging out on the porch, so I picked it up figuring it was something my mom had ordered and had not been home to get when UPS showed up...
The Calm Before the Storm
Posted on July 01, 2009I just got home from a fabulous night at trivia with the crew, after a long day of trying to teach myself Wills & Trusts for the Barzam it was definitely a great relaxing break. As I sat down at my computer to check my email one last time before turning in for the night an automatic reminder popped up reminding me to pay my rent tomorrow...
Project Blog Makeover
Posted on June 29, 2009As you can see, I've been procrastinating on my bar studies to put together a totally revamped blog design. It's finally up and running! I was growing tired of the old peach color and decided since law school is over that it was the perfect time to put together something new...
Vacation All I Ever Wanted
Posted on June 25, 2009Post Bar Vacay HERE I COME!!!!!I've thought about a vacation after the bar exam since first year of law school. As of this morning I still didn't have any plans because BFF has been totally non-committal on the subject for the last 9 months. She promised last summer that we would absolutely do something but once January rolled around and I started doing some serious research on the options she totally backed down and kept giving me bullshit excuses as to why she couldn't discuss the possibilities or commit to anything...
Reality Bites
Posted on June 25, 2009A scene from Useless Law School, 2:30pm this afternoon, 3 girls, hundreds of note cards, random books stacked up everywhere, and not nearly enough caffeine to survive. In walks Big Wig:Big Wig: Check it out, I bought note cards! (he holds up a package of 100 blank index cards)Me: That's cool, why'd you buy those?Big Wig: Well I figure I should maybe make flashcards for the bar after all...
It's Official
Posted on June 23, 2009I've officially earned my J.D. I got the last of the grades today and it was WAY better than I was expecting- a great surprise and a for sure GPA saver. My GPA isn't great and my class rank is rather pathetic, but I managed to escape law school with a higher final GPA than my GPA in my chemistry minor was in college, so I'll consider than an accomplishment :)Speaking of chemistry, I absolutely would prefer to relearn and retake an entire year of college organic chemistry instead of trying to figure out Property...
Finally
Posted on June 17, 2009It took a full flipping month after graduation, but Useless law finally got around to posting 75% of my final semester grades yesterday. They aren't great, I have definitely done better and my overall GPA will for sure take a big hit. But good news is, I for sure graduated...
Useless Cast of Characters
Posted on June 14, 2009When I started blogging back in August of 2006 I didn't have any method of how I was going to identify the people who make up my useless life that I sometimes write about. Recently I've decided that it would be much easier to write and keep things straight if I gave everyone a bloggy name (cause if I'm anonymous they should be to)...
Not Sure What to Make of It
Posted on June 13, 2009At the beginning of the final semester of law school, my Law School BFF and I started going to trivia at one of the local restaurants/bars near useless law school. At first it was just the two of us, blowing off some steam and making friends with the regular bartenders...
Run Run as Fast as You Can
Posted on June 08, 2009Today Useless Law School was an LSAT testing site. Since the June LSAT exam is on a Monday afternoon (as opposed to the typical Saturday morning time slots of the other exams), when I got out of BarBri at at noon today there were tons of stressed people hanging out in the lobby of Useless Law anxiously anticipating/dreading the start of the exam...
Gentle request of my non-law friends and family
Posted on June 07, 2009I know that you are all trying to be supportive, but please, I am begging you, stop asking me about the bar exam! I don't want to detail for you what exactly I'm studying, what exactly is involved in bar prep, what exactly is on the exam, what exactly the practice exam that I took today entailed, or answer any other mundane questions you might think up for me about the bar between now and the end of July...
Autobiography (oh how I love procrastinating!)
Posted on June 07, 2009Shamelessly taken from Silly Little Law Student, this is so much better than studying for the barzam!MY AUTOBIOGRAPHYWhere did you take your Facebook profile picture? Backyard of my parent's house. What exactly are you wearing right now? My favorite comfy pjs...
The first of many Barzam WFT?
Posted on June 06, 2009WTF KaplanPMBR- I'm pretty sure you're answer to this practice question is wrong, and very frankly this question is just bad bad bad all the way around, WTF?Here's the question (paraphrased slightly cause it's LONG:J had a cat named M. Cat is worth $500...
To the Pointe
Posted on June 04, 2009When I was 4 years old my mom put me in a ballet/tap combo class for one hour every week. I immediately fell in love with the ballet part of it and have been dancing ever since. All through high school I was pretty serious about it, I did at least 3 hours of class a week and did the whole pointe shoe thing, but once college rolled around I didn't have time to make it to my regular studio and never really did find a studio near Useless University that I loved, so I stopped dancing on a regular basis...
Is astrology trying to tell me something?
Posted on June 03, 2009I've never been one to take horoscopes seriously, but my horoscope today is almost so spot on with how bar prep has been going for me this week that it's almost scary:You might have mixed emotions about what you need to do at work today, yet you cannot put off your decision too much longer...
A Final Letter (hopefully!) to Useless Law
Posted on June 01, 2009Dear Useless Law School,It's been 16 days since graduation for the class of 2009, and 18 days since final exams for the Spring 2009 semester ended. I know that posting grades in a timely manner has never been a forte of yours. The professors at Useless Law are rather lazy about grading, especially over the summer break, and sometimes it's July before we finally know how the spring semester turned out...
Useless Book?
Posted on May 31, 2009I've had quite a few ideas for blog posts pop into my head over the last year or so, but it seems I never get around to writing them. Whenever I get an idea and actually remember it long enough I jot it down on a post it or in a running stream of consciousness document I save on my computer...
Pool Fail
Posted on May 29, 2009I'm not much of a summer person, I actually far prefer winter because I love skiing and actually don't really mind the snow except for when it creates big drama on the morning or evening commute. And to top it off I absolutely hate the heat, so anything above about 80 degrees and I start to get crabby...
Unsolicited Bar Advice
Posted on May 28, 2009Many of my friends who have already taken and passed the bar exam have offered up plenty of unsolicited advice to me in the past few weeks about how to approach bar exam studying, I thought I'd share their advice here for those of you who are interested...
The Official Start of Barbri
Posted on May 27, 2009The first day of barbri was a bit like the first day of school. It's been 2 weeks since graduation so there was a lot to catch up on with friends and there were lots of new faces, which I assume are students from the other Useless state law school, out of state students, or attorneys who are unlucky enough to not get reciprocity into Useless state...
Train Wreck Part Two
Posted on May 26, 2009If I had bet $100 on my internship backtracking/changing the story from what they told me last week then I'd be $100 richer today. In the days that followed the conversation with HR about not coming back after the bar because I wasn't getting a permanent offer I contacted my direct supervisor as well as the supervisor above her to inquire as to what had happened, why I wasn't being considered, etc, because I wanted to know specific reasons before starting the quest for another job...
Train Wreck
Posted on May 21, 2009So apparently that lunch meeting didn't go well. I got a call from the human resources director yesterday, my last day at work was last friday. The understanding at that time was that all of the interns would be back in August after the bar and then intern until bar results in October...
Here Goes Nothing
Posted on May 19, 2009After a fabulous day off in which I slept in, cleaned my apartment that was starting to look more and more like a frat house on a daily basis, and watched 3 glorious hours of great TV (yes the Bachelorette qualifies as great TV), I decided I should start this whole bar prep thing that people keep twittering/talking/blogging about...
Useless Dicta, J.D.
Posted on May 18, 2009Graduation was fun, exiting, and totally exhausting. I'm taking today off to get my chaotic life back in order, but bar prep starts bright and early tomorrow morning so I'm sure I'll have plenty of things to blog about once that begins :)
One Million Five Thousand Seventy Six Eight Hundred Minutes
Posted on May 15, 20091,576,800 minutes.* That's how many minutes make up 3 years. It's a huge number. It seems like it should take a long time to get through that many minutes. 3 years ago I was finishing up my thesis, having fun with friends, and getting ready to graduate and head to law school...
And then there were NONE
Posted on May 11, 2009Law school for this useless law student ended today at 11:01am :)I had fair warning that the end of law school doesn't necessarily lead to a musical worthy grand finale, so I prepared by grabbing some celebratory beverages last night on my way home from the library...
And Then There Was One
Posted on May 09, 2009Just one more exam left and I'll be done with law school forever. As much as I've hated law school at times, I'm not really sure that it's fully hit me yet that in T-minus 50.5 hours I'll be completely and totally done with law school. A lot has happened in the last 3 years, and yet I have no idea where the hell time went...
Money Freakout
Posted on May 07, 2009For some reason I decided I should check my student loan accounts. I about had a heart attack when I found that payments on my grad plus loans start NEXT FREAKING MONTH. Apparently there is no grace period on those. AHHHHHH.Thankfully after some frantic calls I found out that a forbearance can be applied to the grad plus loans to align my first payment on those with my first payment on my stafford loans (ie: give me a 6 month grace period)...
Or Maybe it Should be 20 Words
Posted on May 06, 2009Friend of mine pointed out that 3 more words need to be added onto the 17 word description of law school:Don't get caught.Too bad passing corporations is going to take slightly more than 17 or 20 words.
Law School in 17 Words
Posted on May 05, 2009My little sis (who is a college freshman) summed up law school in 17 brilliant words when I explained to her that I had to relearn Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Torts, and Contracts for my legal analysis final on Thursday:Don't do bad stuff. Don't steal people's shit...
The end in numbers
Posted on May 03, 2009Total number of classes in final law school semester: 4Number of exams completed so far: 2Number of exams left: 2Hours spent in library prepping for final semester exams: at least 30 at this pointHours of prep still needed to get ready for remaining exams: at least 30Number of lattes consumed: too manyNumber of times I've jammed to Livin on a Prayer in the law library: 5Number of times I've listened to Scheherazade all the way through: 10Hours wasted procrastinating: at least 5Average hours of sleep per night: 5...
Where the Story Ends Part II
Posted on April 28, 2009I officially finished my very last law school class ever about 3 hours ago. I promptly hit the local bar across the street from [Useless] Law to celebrate with friends who were also finally finished. After returning to the library ever so slightly inebriated I've decided that library time would be much more enjoyable if I just always made it a habit to drink before coming to commence the "studying" process...
Full Circle
Posted on April 21, 2009If you had told me four years ago that the most major academic assignment I had ever worked on at that point in my life would one day possibly open the door to the job that I didn't even know I wanted as an undergrad I would have thought you had gone nuts...
Paying Off The Nasty Loans
Posted on April 18, 2009**Disclaimer, the advice contained within this post is most likely (okay totally NOT) legal***Last weekend while we were interviewing the enthusiastic 1 and 2L students for next year's Journal Board, a fellow current board member decided all of us current board peeps should come up with a brilliant ponzi scheme, split the profits, and pay off our law school loans in 12 months flat...
Craptacular
Posted on April 17, 2009I basically had an interview today for the job that I desperately want after graduation. I took the advice of my supervisor and set up a meeting with the elected DA of my district. I assumed it would be a meeting more about chatting about the experience I had with the office and what I can do to improve my chances of getting a job as Deputy DA either in my current district or elsewhere, and that's exactly how my supervisor, who is very high up herself, told me to approach it...
Conscience
Posted on April 16, 2009WillibaldoEa posed an interesting question to yesterdays post, how did us jaded law students get rid of the conscience that we had before we became law students? When it comes to school work I'm not sure I really had much of a conscience about preparing for class by the time I hit my junior year of college...
Corporations Part 2
Posted on April 15, 2009Apparently Mr. Corporations Professor didn't get the memo that I posted a couple of weeks ago.Today he polled our class to see how many of us are graduating 3Ls. 75% of the class raised their hands. We have exactly 2 weeks of class left as 3Ls, which means most of us have completely checked out...
Easter
Posted on April 12, 2009When you're little you don't really get the point of Easter other than you know there's a bunny that brings eggs and baskets filled with goodies. But by the time you're 25 you get what it's about, and it's not all about the bunny anymore. Funny thing is, my family is not religious, we never went to church growing up, and it's not that my parents are totally opposed to the idea of relgion, it's just that they didn't feel like they wanted to be a part of a church or raise my sister and I in a church...
Say What?
Posted on April 10, 2009Every now and then I look up the recent phrases that have brought people to my little useless blog. Because I'd like to try to help out those that stumble upon my musings, here's some useless answers to those searches:I hate law schoolYup I hate it too...
Elevator Etiquette
Posted on April 08, 2009There are two days a week that I have class at 8:00am (it?s heinous). On those mornings, since I have to be up early anyways, I usually try to get to school around 6:30-7:00am to get some work done (totally heinous). There are usually very few people at Useless Law School at this time of the morning, which means that I can usually just get right on an elevator without waiting and zoom up to the 4th floor where I hide out in my journal office to work for an hour or so...
Got Twitter?
Posted on April 07, 2009Over the past few weeks I've had multiple blog posts cluttering up my brain, many of them quite lengthy. Problem is, by the time I finally steal a few uninterrupted moments to actually bring those posts to life I'm just too tired to expend the energy necessary to make it happen...
Public Service Announcement
Posted on March 23, 2009Dear Mr. Corporations Professor,I'm a 3L who hasn't given a crap about school for over a year, but wouldn't expect you to know this. It's also 1 month, 23 days until graduation, another fact I wouldn't expect you to know. However, I do assume that you know that this is the first Monday back after Spring Break...
Where Does the Story End?
Posted on March 14, 2009I used to think that law school is a really scary roller coaster with the hundred foot drops, multiple loops, speeds that reach 80 mph that goes both forwards and backwards through the track before finally coming to a screeching halt. That screeching halt is very near, 2 months and 3 days to be precise, and yet somehow I think that law school may have just been the warm up ride for what lies ahead...
Dear Banana Republic
Posted on March 11, 2009To Whom it May Concern:I realize that fashion has long been driven by what is on the runway, and that the models on the runway are really nothing more than skeletons covered with skin. However, I think that it is crap that in this day and age, size 00 models continue to grace the covers on every major magazine in the country, giving young girls unrealistic expectations about what the acceptable body looks like...
How to Kill a Headache in 690 Seconds or Less
Posted on February 23, 2009Take four 200mg ibuprofen tablets, combine that with a half of a can of Starbucks doubleshot enegry + coffee (the one that has guarana and coffee and other goodies in it), sit back on couch while listening to some relaxing music of your choice, about 11 minutes later almost total relief will be seen leaving one able to return to the law review cite and source assignment that one has been avoiding for nearly 2...
Good Riddance!
Posted on February 14, 2009Last August, about a week before the fall semester began, several of my good law school friends and I started to hear through the grapevine that Totally Useless Dean of [Useless] Law School was being forced by the University to step down. I casually mentioned that we had been hearing these rumors to another classmate who happens to intern at the same place I was interning over the summer...

Missing Law School??
Posted on January 28, 2009Today while I was hanging out in the journal office having a fun conversation with several friends it finally hit me, there's only 3 months and 19 days left of law school, and instead of being excited, thrilled, and happy about that, I was a little sad about it...
1-20-09
Posted on January 21, 2009That's a date I have been looking forward to since 11-2-04 when I was bitterly disappointed and irritated that GWB had been elected for a second term. At that time I never thought this day would come. And I certainly didn't think that this day would be the one where the nation's first African American President was sworn in...
Reason #1 Why I F*&%#$^ Hate Law School
Posted on January 21, 2009Can I please just get some general consensus on my abilities here??? Some professors tell me that my writing academic writing ability is above and beyond that of my peers and my grades in those classes reflect that. Other professors claim my academic writing is below that of my peers and my grades also reflect that...
History in the Making
Posted on January 19, 2009The news this weekend has been dominated by the upcoming, historic, presidential inauguration of Barack Obama. For some reason, I think that this picture in particular seems to capture the enormity of the moment more than any other image that has come out of the pre-inaugural celebrations thus far:Photo Credit: New York Times...
Thanks Mom
Posted on January 14, 2009I have 3 classes this semester with a pretty good friend. We've had a few classes together before so this particular friend knows my general routine for law school, which is show up to class, never do the reading, don't stress about not having done the reading all semester, and teach myself the subject towards the end of the semester in the madness of the finals crunch...
Things I Accomplished on my Last First Day of School
Posted on January 13, 2009The final semester of law school began today for me bright and early at 8:30am. I decided to be brave and take Corporations since I have zero business background and it's going to be on [Useless] state's bar exam. However, I left myself an escape plan by registering for an extra class that I don't need to graduate...
So this is how the end begins
Posted on January 11, 2009Tomorrow I begin my last semester of law school. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it. On the one hand, I'm excited that the light at the end of the long law school tunnel is finally visible. But on the other hand, it's the last first day of classes I might ever have and since all I've done for 19 years is go to school full time, it's a little bittersweet...
Hasta la Vista 2008
Posted on December 31, 2008Wow how time flies, do you ever get to the point in life where it feels like time doesn't fly by so fast? It's ironic that the work day can drag on and on seemingly forever and yet every new year's eve I'm constantly astonished that another year is already gone...
Merry Christmas!
Posted on December 25, 2008I hope that you're all enjoying a much deserved break from law school, jobs, and the other general crazyness that life tends to offer. Here's to delicious cookies, crazy family shananigans, some booze, and the Nintendo Wii that I am 110% sure Santa brought me :) (we don't get to open presents for a few more hours here in [Useless] family home)...
[Useless] Music Roundup
Posted on December 16, 2008Finals are FINALLY done! More of the postmortem on that will come later, but for now I've decided to do a roundup of the music (some great, some bad, and some excellent guilty pleasures) that I discovered in the depths of my iTunes playlist or impulsed purchased from the iTunes store during the last 2...

Tis the Season for Finals
Posted on December 13, 2008It's going to be a long weekend of writing in the library this weekend (I would rather be Christmas shopping, skiing, and generally doing festive winter type things, but I digress).I decided to pull out the good ole iTunes Holiday Playlist while working on my paper today, and I just have to say that Mariah Carey's Merry Christmas album NEVER gets old...
Getting Through the Home Stretch
Posted on December 13, 2008Shout out to Ana for suggesting Target's wine cube. It's one of my new favorite things, and it's definitely coming in handy as I try to crank out the last 5 pages of paper #2 and get started on writing paper #3. Hopefully I'll be done by Monday evening so I can hit the slopes with my friends on Tuesday!
Dear [Useless] Starbucks Baristas
Posted on December 11, 2008Hi! Remember me?? I'm the girl who comes in wearing the [Useless] Law t-shirt at least once, if not TWICE a day and always orders a Venti Vanilla Latte. This has never been a problem, until the beginning of this week when for some reason the Barista made it a Non-Fat Vanilla Latte...
Santa in the 21st Century
Posted on December 04, 2008This is great: I think my favorite "email" in Santa's inbox is that one from Donner. I'm going to be just like Donner the day after finals end the week after next. (click on the image to get the bigger readable one!)
Awards and Honors*
Posted on December 01, 2008Congrats to Namby on being nominated on the ABA Blawg 100 list for 2008. While Namby is busy thanking the academy for the honor of being nominated, we all need to go vote so he wins the best "Quirky" blawg award for 2008. *Similar awards and honors have not, and will likely never be found on this blog...
Finally Done
Posted on November 30, 2008All of you who have been spammed by my terrible NaBloPoMo posts on your bloglines readers for the past month can rejoice, NaBloPoMo is done. I'm not going to re-hash or take a look back at any of the past 29 posts I have done for NaBloPoMo, you can all do that on your own (if you want/dare)...

Another Quiz
Posted on November 29, 2008Because I am running low on things to blog about for NaBloPoMo, I'm shamelessly posting yet another quiz. This one is the career I should pick when I flunk out of law school after I don't get 3 papers done this semester:Your result for The Alternative Job For You Test...
Thanksgiving and Green Beans
Posted on November 28, 2008I am totally exhausted right now, and for a change it's not because of law school. It's because of Thanksgiving. My family (parents) host every year which means we always get to spend the day doing all the cooking and all the cleaning before the rest of the extended family comes over...
Good Deeds
Posted on November 27, 2008Phoebe once proclaimed to Joey in an episode of Friends that there are no selfless good deeds. She reasoned that all good deeds are selfish because good deeds make us feel better, therefore good deeds are selfish because if you are doing something to make yourself feel better then that is a selfish act...
Motivation Purgatory
Posted on November 25, 2008There's a common feeling among law students at [Useless] law school that 3Ls don't really care about school anymore, the reason being because some have jobs and the rest of us are just fed up and over it. I don't have a for sure job, and I have been fed up with law school since the first week of 1L year, but somehow I think right now I'm in that gray purgatory area between caring and not caring...
Progress?
Posted on November 25, 2008It's 8:00pm in [Useless] city, I got to the law library when it opened at 7:30am. I'm still here. I took 45 minutes for lunch and a few short breaks here and there. I have only written 2.5 pages of one of my 3 papers that I have to complete by December 16...
Weird?
Posted on November 25, 2008Does anyone else find Miley Cyrus' performances on Dancing with the Stars tonight or the American Music Awards on Sunday night to be slightly disturbing?? Didn't she just turn 16?? She looks about 20 going on 25 and she certainly isn't acting like a 16 year old when she performs- does this bother anyone else? If that was my kid (and granted I'm young and a LONG way away from having teenage kids) I'm not entirely sure I would be okay with that...

Twilight Part Two
Posted on November 23, 2008In response to Butterflyfish's comment to my post about the Twilight movie, yes the books really are that good. I didn't think that I would like the books at all. I've never really been into any other vampire stories, like Ann Rice for example, and the fact that these books were located in the "teen" section of Barnes and Noble didn't help...
Annoyed Part Deux
Posted on November 22, 2008My post from yesterday wasn't showing up on my blog after I posted my latest post for today. I don't know why- blogger had it in the dashboard area where it shows all of your posts, so strange- stupid blogger. It's there now (and I guess this should be my lesson to click on that "view post" link after I'm done posting more often)...
Annoyed
Posted on November 22, 2008I'm trying my best not to be stressed out, although my procrastination habits are inevitably leading down the road of major stress that will define the next 4 weeks between now and the end of the Fall semester. Despite that, I'm also trying my best to not be annoyed at people because I realize that most of my annoyance is probably fueled by my own stress, and it's not fair to project that onto other innocent bystanders...
Another Way to Procrastinate
Posted on November 20, 2008I'm always looking for excuses to procrastinate or avoid having to think about finals and those 3 nasty little papers waiting to be written. Just when I was getting bored with just about everything I could find on my usual internet haunts (Facebook, CNN, Gap, iTunes, and Netflix), I come across this great find on Google:LIFE photo archive hosted by Google...
Yup, I'm Psyched for Twilight
Posted on November 20, 2008I won't be joining the thousands of teenagers already lined up at the movie theater to see Twilight at 12:01 tonight (or rather tomorrow morning)- I have "adult" plans to celebrate the last day of class this evening, but that isn't stopping me from adding a teenage vampire flick to my list of weekend activities- and I'm psyched! I didn't think I would like the book(s) at all...
I Heart Google
Posted on November 18, 2008*Topic idea for this post shamelessly borrowed from Butterflyfish*I'm going to attempt to answer some of the ponderings that have brought people to this [useless] blawg from the very wonderful world of Google to finish yet another NaBloPoMo post:Law OCI and Why it SucksOCI sucks because it is yet another part of law school where certain law students (GUNNERS) measure their own self worth by judging themselves against everyone else...
Mixing it for Finals
Posted on November 17, 2008Remember the good old days of mix tapes? Now you can create your very own virtual mix tape over at mixwit.com . Here?s a finals mix tape I made, some of my favorite goodies off of my iTunes playlist, some of which made the cut on the meme I posted yesterday...

Enjoy it While You Can
Posted on November 15, 2008It's nearing finals time, which means I have resorted to studying in the Starbucks down the street from the law school to avoid the tension and down right near panic that pervades [Useless] law this time of the year. At Starbucks this morning I was wearing my [Useless] law hoodie which is probably why an overeager and totally naive [Useless] University undergrad approached me to ask how I liked law school, if I had any advice, etc...
Curse you Grey's Anatomy
Posted on November 14, 2008Grey's hasn't made me cry in awhile. In fact, the last time I really cried was when Denny died right before Izzie got there in her prom dress. Leave it to the writers of Grey's to bring Denny back and make me cry all over again. Damn it.
The Best of CafePress
Posted on November 14, 2008You may recall, last year I found tons of law school gag gifts on CafePress. Since I am running painfully low on NaBloPoMo material, here's my Best of CafePress roundup for 2008: Coaster I'm Getting all of my 3L Friends (to avoid water ring from bottles of beer this summer!Bumper Sticker I definitely need in [ Useless ] City...
3 papers + 1 final trial = 0 sleep for the next month
Posted on November 13, 2008I don't know why I thought it would be smart to take no exam classes and all paper/trial classes. I have 3 20+ page papers due and a final trial due within the next month. Even though the 2L Ass had me all fired up and motivated yesterday, that motivation didn't last through the night...
Sweet Karma
Posted on November 13, 2008Mr. 2L Ass may have gotten a victory for himself on Tuesday, but the other 11 reasonable law students get the last laugh. Today in class, Professor Prick realized that it wasn't really fair of him to make us wait until November 11 to decide that the paper due date of December 1 wouldn't be extended when we started discussing extending the deadline in late October...
Now What?
Posted on November 11, 2008This past weekend I procrastinated so much that I didn't get anything started on the 3 papers I have to write this semester, but I did finish watching the sixth and final season of Sex and the City. To ward off withdrawal symptoms I promptly went to Best Buy and bought a copy of Sex and the City- The Movie, hence I spent all of last night watching the movie and knitting a scarf for the snow storm that all of the forecasters swore was going to hit my city today (for the record it was 48 degrees most of the day and we saw just a tiny bit of rain)...
A Letter
Posted on November 11, 2008Dear 2L in my Humanitarian Law Seminar,YOU ARE AN ASSHOLE!The reason you are the only 2L in this class is because it's a class of 12 people, 3Ls had registration priority over you and you got EXTREMELY lucky by getting into the course a week into the semester thanks to one of my fellow friends having to drop the course for irrelevant reasons...
Sex and the City Wisdom
Posted on November 09, 2008As Charlotte once pointed out to Carrie, "It takes half the total time you went out with someone to get over them. The Ex Factor
Posted on November 09, 2008This is the post that I mentioned yesterday was in the works, here goes nothing. . . I dated "the boy" who I met in college for about 3.5 years. A majority of that time was while I was in college, a smaller chunk of that time was during my first year in law school...

Sex and the City Redux
Posted on November 06, 2008As I pointed out yesterday, I have recently become totally engrossed in Sex and the City. In college I was a total Friends junkie, and frankly I still am. I was a sophomore in college when the Friends ended. My roommate and I had a great evening of junk food and drinks, curled up on the couch and watched the last first run episode of our most favorite show...
The Day After
Posted on November 05, 2008I totally agree with ImNobody yesterday was great and will certainly be one I remember for a long long time. But I won't be engaging in any post-morteums, gleeful celebrations, or any rehashing of how things were won or lost yesterday on my blog. It's over...
Where were you when??
Posted on November 04, 2008Since tomorrow is likely to be one of the biggest days in modern American history, no matter what the outcome of the election is, I thought that this "where were you when" meme was a somewhat appropriate meme as I'm sure the question "where were you when Obama/McCain won the 2008 election?" will be added to the list come wednesday morning...
Couldn't Have Said it Better
Posted on November 04, 2008So much has already been said about this election, and much much more will come in the days that follow, but this post by a blogger over at Talking Points Memo is absoulutely the best account I have read, and probably will read pertaining to this election...

Saturday Night Live is Back
Posted on November 03, 2008No matter what the outcome of November 4 is, there is no denying that this election season has been fantastic for the comeback of Saturday Night Live. In case you missed the great McCain sketches from last night here they are!McCain/Palin QVC Commercial (and I must say that Tina Fey has been totally BRILLIANT as Sarah Palin!)Weekend Update with John McCain:And just a friendly reminder from this post a few days ago, if you haven't done so already and you are eligible please make sure to vote on November 4th!!!
Happy NaBloPoMo 2008
Posted on November 02, 2008It's November first, which means it's National Blog Posting Month (aka NaBloPoMo). The challenge is to post every day of the month. This can be easy for those of you who post almost everyday already, but for someone like me to tends to take quite a few hiatuses, especially when life gets stressful...
Affirmation
Posted on October 30, 2008I went to a lunchtime presentation at my school today with a panel of recent graduates who all passed the most recent bar exam in my state. They talked to us about what studying was like, how they prepared, what happened on exam days, etc. I was RELIEVED to hear every single one of them say that taking bar classes in law school wasn't necessary for passing the exam...
The Election of a Lifetime
Posted on October 29, 2008I realize that I am pretty young when it comes to politics and elections (heck this is only the 2nd presidential election that I have been old enough to vote in), but after many years of schooling and hearing stories from my parents and grandparents, I got a little emotional filling out this historic ballot today:No matter what your polticial affiliation is, you can't deny the fact that this election is one of the most historic of our lifetimes...
Need Some Advice
Posted on October 28, 2008I'll probably regret this later because I am likely to get conflicting information and end up totally confused, but here it goes:My very LAST semester of law school is finally upon me and I have no idea what to take!!! Should I focus on bar classes heading into the bar exam or should I take classes more geared at what I want to do (criminal prosecution)? Is it important to have a more well-rounded list of classes on your transcript should I ever want to get out of criminal prosecution?? AHHHHH!!!The subjects tested on my state's bar (besides the 6 tested on the MBE) are:CorporationsTrusts/Estates/WillsFamily Law (rules specific to my state)Civil Procedure (rules specific to my state)Secured Transactions or Commercial PaperAdmin LawOf those courses listed above the ONLY one I have taken so far is, well NONE...
High School for "Adults"
Posted on October 22, 2008A post by Kel over at A Woman in Law School today reminded me of the shock/horror/and somewhat amusing realizations I came to during my own 1L experience. Right after reading that post I hopped on over to Virgin in the Volcano and noticed her great quote on her blog: "Good lord...
2.25 years and still know nothing...
Posted on October 21, 2008I'm done with a total of 2.25 years of law school, which means I only have .75 more to go. And yet I still feel like I know absolutly nothing, which really isn't all that much different than how I felt heading into first year finals. I was at work yesterday, my boss asked me a "hypo" and to please give her my "off the top of the head answer" and I literally froze...
Things I love about Fall
Posted on October 14, 2008Many of my friends @ useless law hate this time of year because it's starting to get cold and the days are getting shorter, which means summer is definitely over and another winter in useless city is about to set in. I thankfully don't live in one of those places where the winters are horrible and miserable for months straight, but it can get cold and it does snow...
I can do this too
Posted on October 10, 2008Bar results for my state came out today. I was so thrilled to see that every single one of my friends who took the bar this past July passed!! I was nervous on all of their behalf's this morning waiting for the results to be posted, and I was so relieved and excited to see all of their names on the list (I'm in one of those evil states who still posts the results as a list of names so everyone immediately knows who did and did not pass)...
Time Flies By
Posted on October 07, 2008It's astonishing to think that just about a year ago I was a litigation virgin, it seems like an absolute eternity since that entry and the anxiety about my first trial. I got to thinking about this today because I have a DUI trial tomorrow at my internship, it's just a court trial and the defense attorney is stipulating to all of the test results coming in...
Fall Makeover
Posted on October 05, 2008I finally decided it was time to move on over to the new blogger templates coded for XML, so after hours of trying to figure out just how to do that I think I've finally got everything set up! Let me know what you think of this layout- it's pretty similar to the old one, except now I have the ability to add fun widgets over to the left side bar...
Palin Roundup
Posted on October 05, 2008In my opinion, the SNL skits of Tina Fey portraying Palin have been PRICELESS- just in case you're one of the last people on earth who hasn't seen them yet, or if you're like me and you just love to re-watch funny things over and over here's a roundup of the SNL Palin skits, along with some of Palin's actual greatest hits...
So Much to Say, Not Enough Words to Convey?
Posted on October 02, 2008As I?m sure many of you have noticed, posting on this blog has become pathetic at best and horrendous at worst. So what?s been going on? Well, 3rd year has started, first semester is about half way done, I?m still plugging away at my internship in the DA?s office, and I am still horribly over-committing myself to far to many activities, so much that I don?t know anymore how the hell I find time to sleep...
Reason Why My Olympic Dreams Are Dead
Posted on August 09, 2008I remember growing up when the olympics rolled around, my friends and I used to pretend that we were athletes at the olympics. We would stage various types of competitions out in the back yard and we even had makeshift podiums built out of cardboard boxes to recieve our hard earned gold medals...
Paris for Prez?
Posted on August 05, 2008It's only early August and I'm already sick of political ads. I think elections are important and I'm kind of a politics junkie, but I am soooo thankful for Tivo because it means I can fast forward through all of the garbage that seems to be on a constant loop these days...
Luck
Posted on August 05, 2008This recent post over at Ana's reminded me of a quote a friend of mine shared with me by Garrison Keillor:"Some luck lies in not getting what you thought you wanted but getting what you have, which once you have got it you may be smart enough to see is what you would have wanted had you known...
Good Luck Bar Takers!

I've Been Hanging Around
Posted on July 27, 2008I'm not sure if anyone is still out there, and frankly I wouldn't be surprised if everyone has deserted my blog, I did after all pretty much disappear for a solid 2 months preceded by an entire spring of sporadic at best posting. I really don't have much of an excuse, but I do feel bad, after all I don't really like when blogs I regularly read suddenly come to a halt without explanation, a sentiment I realize is shared by others...

I'm Confused
Posted on May 15, 2008I haven't had a political rant lately, frankly I should be working on getting my last take home exam done right now, but after some procrastination browsing CNN I decided I just had to post this:McCain Predicts Iraq War Will Be Won by 2013. Wait a minute, I thought the Mission was Accomplished back in 2003??? (insert sarcasim here!)Funny how quickly John McCain changes his tune:And we thought Kerry was a flip-flopper...
I love David Cook
Posted on May 14, 2008Seriously, I have been watching American Idol since season one (yes I'm a NERD) there has NEVER been anyone as good as DAVID COOK!!!!His first song, First Time Ever I Saw Your Face was phenominal, I had chills, and I don't even like that song!!!!! Chris Daughtry was great a few seasons ago, and I love that his band's CD skyrocketed to the top of the charts, but I think David Cook takes the cake for best all-time Idol contestant...
Sick
Posted on May 12, 2008Being at Useless Law School really stinks this time of year, it seems like everyone else is already done with school this year, but yet all of the lucky students at Useless Law School have a final week of exams to look forward to this week instead of more fun things, like doing nothing...

Even the Space Aliens Don't Want Me
Posted on April 01, 2008Apparently instead of going to Mars as a Virgle Pioneer I should finish law school instead........"Well, you're distressingly normal and could conceivably adjust to life as a deep space pioneer, though we recommend instead that you leave the Mars missions to the serious whack jobs who scored over 130 and instead finish year 3 of law school, tuck your toddler into bed, design Web 2...

The "Listening" Justice
Posted on February 25, 2008CNN has an interesting article on Justice Thomas this morning, apparently he hasn't asked a question at oral argument in over 2 years. The "Listening" Justice"I can't really say that it's unfair to say that I'm silent in that context. I would like to, though, be referred to as the 'listening justice,' you know ...

Instant Messenger
Posted on February 18, 2008I'm an instant messenger addict- maybe that's why I found this video so funny (or maybe it was just funny because it was a distraction from doing my Crim Pro reading). You decide....

Change the World
Posted on February 06, 2008I participated in my first presidential caucus tonight. In 2004 my state had a late primary and John Kerry was already the for sure democratic nominee and in 2000 I wasn?t yet 18 (yup I?m a mid-80?s baby). What I saw tonight during this somewhat obscure yet fascinating caucus process was absolutely incredible...

I Love Barnes and Noble
Posted on January 03, 2008I have 2 regular law classes next semester and 2 trial practice classes. For my regular law classes the textbooks totaled to about $260.00 at the Useless University Bookstore. Thanks to the $25/year Barnes and Noble membership that I purchased in August I bought both textbooks PLUS a study guide for each of those classes and the total came to $210 :) The B&N membership is definitely worth it, in addition to the member pricing I also get coupons for an extra 25% off once in a while (and I had one of those golden little coupons this time)...
Resolved
Posted on January 02, 2008New Year's resolutions aren't really my thing. I never keep them longer than a few weeks and I know when I make the resolution that it most likely won't last, so what is the point of making a resolution if I know that I won't keep it?For some reason this year though I do feel compelled to at least make an attempt at some kind of resolution...

Half Way There
Posted on December 14, 2007I'm officially done with HALF of law school!!!!I don't know if I should be excited that I'm half way there or irritated that I still have half of law school left.Jurisprudence was an absolute monster. We just had to to "journaling" throughout the semester, but it might as well have been a paper by the time all of the mandatory edits were done, I don't understand anything that we learned in that class, but oh well...
Almost there
Posted on December 11, 2007Evidence final was today. I could say that I've spent the last week preparing for it, but that would be a lie. I spent a lot of hte last week thinking about outlining and studying, but in reality I really just hung out at coffee shops, procrastinated a lot and then went out with friends and drank beer...

Coffee Shops
Posted on December 03, 2007Exam season is here and with exam season all of the maniacs seem to come out of the woodwork to inhabit the law school for a 2 week period each December and May. I wish someone would have told me to get the hell out of the law building last year when I was a scared little 1L (or I wish I was smart enough to get out on my own)...
The end of NaBloPoMo
Posted on December 01, 2007Bet yah didn't think I could do it huh?? I honestly didn't think I could actually follow through and finish NaBloPoMo either, but somehow I did. It's kind of funny because now I am in the regular habit of posting something to the blog before I go to bed each night...
Law Tunes
Posted on November 29, 2007I have heard a lot about law related song parodies, but for some reason I've never really heard any of them. Today I got an email about Law Tunes These look pretty amusing. There's a whole bunch of "holiday" tunes for lawyers (I think the clip called "Billing on Christmas Eve" might be one of my favorites)...
Grooving in a Fishbowl
Posted on November 28, 2007I don't know about the rest of the law schools out there, but at Useless Law School the study rooms are pretty much fishbowls. Each study room has a giant window and everyone walking past can see who is in the room and how much they are studying (or procrastinating in my case)...

Why Didn't I Think of This Angle for my Paper?
Posted on November 26, 2007It's been awhile since I posted links to a news story or editorial, but an opinion piece in the NY Times this morning caught my attention and I thought I would share it with you all:Taking Marriage PrivateI found this article interesting because my Jurisprudence class this semester has used the issue of Gay Marriage as a basis for studying the different legal philosophies that have impacted the American legal system...
Post Holiday Weekend Hangover
Posted on November 25, 2007It was a fabulous 4 day weekend. I didn't open one book for school, I didn't think about one thing that needed to get done for a clinic case, I went skiing, I went shopping, I saw a musical, and I ate more food than should be humanly possible to consume...
Law School Gag Gifts
Posted on November 25, 2007I was procrastinating A LOT today. In my procrastination adventures I ended up on Cafepress checking out all of items that come up when you do a search for "Law School." Many of the items that people have come up with are pretty amusing. I don't know if I would ever order any of these, but I had a lot of fun for about an hour looking through all of the cleaver things people have created...
Would you put this chair in your office?
Posted on November 24, 2007A friend of mine emailed this Onion article to me, this friend is not a law student and is not connected to the legal profession in any way, but she thought that the article was hilarious nonetheless because law offices do stereotypically have really nice furniture...

A Few of My Favorite Holiday Songs
Posted on November 20, 2007I have been trying my best to get into the holiday spirit. I always used to love the holidays, especially when I was a kid, but for the last few years I've been kind of a grinch. I don't know if it's the stress of school or the pains of growing up or the continued annoyances of extended family, but for some reason I just never really seem to be able to get into the holiday spirit...
Post 1L Flashbacks
Posted on November 20, 2007I had dinner and drinks with some of my clinic colleagues this evening. Everyone was reminiscing about the horror that was first year. Two of my girlfriends (who are 3Ls- so a year ahead of me) were talking about how horrible their experience was, their section was super competitive, no one wanted to help anyone out and they never even thought about being friendly in a social type atmosphere...
