I've been a Mac user for about 5 years now. The reason I switched is because I was absolutely fed up with Windows and all of the XP vulnerabilities, viruses, crashes, etc. My friends have been known to call me an Apple whore because I have multiple iPods, an iphone, a laptop and various other apple accessories that are far overpriced but oh so fabulous...

Although I did a short stint in the training division (minor traffic cases only) last summer, I started 2 weeks ago feeling rusty and like I definitely needed to find my footing again. The people who run the admin side of my office really are morons.  The office recently purchased software that will automatically make phone calls and send emails whenever the office is closed or opening late due to inclement weather.  Idiot human resources director, who caused all the previous drama over the summer, is the person responsible for programming the information into the system...

So far life as a lawyer has been fairly uneventful, which I suppose is good because it means that I haven't been fired and that I still have my bar license. However, that doesn't mean that working in the traffic division isn't entertaining, it's not as interesting on an academic type level as the felony division was, but the outrageous stories and excuses I get to hear on a daily basis really do make my day...

I'm all official now, got my attorney license number yesterday and was sworn in as a Deputy DA today. It didn't really hit me that I'm a real attorney with a real job until I went to my benefits orientation meeting and learned about those adult things I've always heard my parents talk about, 401(k)s, IRAs, HMOs, PPOs, etc...

I'm getting sworn in as an attorney in Useless State tomorrow morning, and then on Thursday I'm getting sworn in as a Deputy DA. I can't believe it's already been 3 years since I started trying to figure out exactly how to read a case, how to prepare for law school classes, and how to outline, at the time it seemed like the end of law school was light years away...

Useless Thoughts on the Barzam

This summer I've had an increasing problem with insomnia. It doesn't happen every night, but at least once a week (and sometimes more if I'm really unlucky) I have one of those nights where I'm able to sleep 3.5-4 hours and then for no reason at all I'm wide awake...

I've officially earned my J.D. I got the last of the grades today and it was WAY better than I was expecting- a great surprise and a for sure GPA saver. My GPA isn't great and my class rank is rather pathetic, but I managed to escape law school with a higher final GPA than my GPA in my chemistry minor was in college, so I'll consider than an accomplishment :)Speaking of chemistry, I absolutely would prefer to relearn and retake an entire year of college organic chemistry instead of trying to figure out Property...

When I was 4 years old my mom put me in a ballet/tap combo class for one hour every week. I immediately fell in love with the ballet part of it and have been dancing ever since. All through high school I was pretty serious about it, I did at least 3 hours of class a week and did the whole pointe shoe thing, but once college rolled around I didn't have time to make it to my regular studio and never really did find a studio near Useless University that I loved, so I stopped dancing on a regular basis...

I'm not much of a summer person, I actually far prefer winter because I love skiing and actually don't really mind the snow except for when it creates big drama on the morning or evening commute. In the days that followed the conversation with HR about not coming back after the bar because I wasn't getting a permanent offer I contacted my direct supervisor as well as the supervisor above her to inquire as to what had happened, why I wasn't being considered, etc, because I wanted to know specific reasons before starting the quest for another job...

For some reason I decided I should check my student loan accounts. I about had a heart attack when I found that payments on my grad plus loans start NEXT FREAKING MONTH. Apparently there is no grace period on those. AHHHHHH.Thankfully after some frantic calls I found out that a forbearance can be applied to the grad plus loans to align my first payment on those with my first payment on my stafford loans (ie: give me a 6 month grace period)...

I basically had an interview today for the job that I desperately want after graduation. I took the advice of my supervisor and set up a meeting with the elected DA of my district. I assumed it would be a meeting more about chatting about the experience I had with the office and what I can do to improve my chances of getting a job as Deputy DA either in my current district or elsewhere, and that's exactly how my supervisor, who is very high up herself, told me to approach it...

When it comes to school work I'm not sure I really had much of a conscience about preparing for class by the time I hit my junior year of college...

When you're little you don't really get the point of Easter other than you know there's a bunny that brings eggs and baskets filled with goodies. But by the time you're 25 you get what it's about, and it's not all about the bunny anymore. Funny thing is, my family is not religious, we never went to church growing up, and it's not that my parents are totally opposed to the idea of relgion, it's just that they didn't feel like they wanted to be a part of a church or raise my sister and I in a church...

There are two days a week that I have class at 8:00am (it?s heinous). On those mornings, since I have to be up early anyways, I usually try to get to school around 6:30-7:00am to get some work done (totally heinous). There are usually very few people at Useless Law School at this time of the morning, which means that I can usually just get right on an elevator without waiting and zoom up to the 4th floor where I hide out in my journal office to work for an hour or so...

I used to think that law school is a really scary roller coaster with the hundred foot drops, multiple loops, speeds that reach 80 mph that goes both forwards and backwards through the track before finally coming to a screeching halt. That screeching halt is very near, 2 months and 3 days to be precise, and yet somehow I think that law school may have just been the warm up ride for what lies ahead...

I have 3 classes this semester with a pretty good friend. We've had a few classes together before so this particular friend knows my general routine for law school, which is show up to class, never do the reading, don't stress about not having done the reading all semester, and teach myself the subject towards the end of the semester in the madness of the finals crunch...

Tomorrow I begin my last semester of law school. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it. On the one hand, I'm excited that the light at the end of the long law school tunnel is finally visible. But on the other hand, it's the last first day of classes I might ever have and since all I've done for 19 years is go to school full time, it's a little bittersweet...

Does anyone else find Miley Cyrus' performances on Dancing with the Stars tonight or the American Music Awards on Sunday night to be slightly disturbing?? Didn't she just turn 16?? She looks about 20 going on 25 and she certainly isn't acting like a 16 year old when she performs- does this bother anyone else? If that was my kid (and granted I'm young and a LONG way away from having teenage kids) I'm not entirely sure I would be okay with that...

This past weekend I procrastinated so much that I didn't get anything started on the 3 papers I have to write this semester, but I did finish watching the sixth and final season of Sex and the City. To ward off withdrawal symptoms I promptly went to Best Buy and bought a copy of Sex and the City- The Movie, hence I spent all of last night watching the movie and knitting a scarf for the snow storm that all of the forecasters swore was going to hit my city today (for the record it was 48 degrees most of the day and we saw just a tiny bit of rain)...

I went to a lunchtime presentation at my school today with a panel of recent graduates who all passed the most recent bar exam in my state. They talked to us about what studying was like, how they prepared, what happened on exam days, etc. I was RELIEVED to hear every single one of them say that taking bar classes in law school wasn't necessary for passing the exam...

I'll probably regret this later because I am likely to get conflicting information and end up totally confused, but here it goes:My very LAST semester of law school is finally upon me and I have no idea what to take!!! Should I focus on bar classes heading into the bar exam or should I take classes more geared at what I want to do (criminal prosecution)? Is it important to have a more well-rounded list of classes on your transcript should I ever want to get out of criminal prosecution?? I'm done with a total of 2.25 years of law school, which means I only have .75 more to go. And yet I still feel like I know absolutly nothing, which really isn't all that much different than how I felt heading into first year finals. I was at work yesterday, my boss asked me a "hypo" and to please give her my "off the top of the head answer" and I literally froze...

Bar results for my state came out today. I was so thrilled to see that every single one of my friends who took the bar this past July passed!! I was nervous on all of their behalf's this morning waiting for the results to be posted, and I was so relieved and excited to see all of their names on the list (I'm in one of those evil states who still posts the results as a list of names so everyone immediately knows who did and did not pass)...

I'm not sure if anyone is still out there, and frankly I wouldn't be surprised if everyone has deserted my blog, I did after all pretty much disappear for a solid 2 months preceded by an entire spring of sporadic at best posting. I really don't have much of an excuse, but I do feel bad, after all I don't really like when blogs I regularly read suddenly come to a halt without explanation, a sentiment I realize is shared by others...

Seriously, I have been watching American Idol since season one (yes I'm a NERD) there has NEVER been anyone as good as DAVID COOK!!!!His first song, First Time Ever I Saw Your Face was phenominal, I had chills, and I don't even like that song!!!!! Chris Daughtry was great a few seasons ago, and I love that his band's CD skyrocketed to the top of the charts, but I think David Cook takes the cake for best all-time Idol contestant...

Being at Useless Law School really stinks this time of year, it seems like everyone else is already done with school this year, but yet all of the lucky students at Useless Law School have a final week of exams to look forward to this week instead of more fun things, like doing nothing...

In 2004 my state had a late primary and John Kerry was already the for sure democratic nominee and in 2000 I wasn?t yet 18 (yup I?m a mid-80?s baby). I Love Barnes and Noble

I have 2 regular law classes next semester and 2 trial practice classes. For my regular law classes the textbooks totaled to about $260.00 at the Useless University Bookstore. Thanks to the $25/year Barnes and Noble membership that I purchased in August I bought both textbooks PLUS a study guide for each of those classes and the total came to $210 :) The B&N membership is definitely worth it, in addition to the member pricing I also get coupons for an extra 25% off once in a while (and I had one of those golden little coupons this time)...

I'm officially done with HALF of law school!!!!I don't know if I should be excited that I'm half way there or irritated that I still have half of law school left.Jurisprudence was an absolute monster. We just had to to "journaling" throughout the semester, but it might as well have been a paper by the time all of the mandatory edits were done, I don't understand anything that we learned in that class, but oh well...

I don't know about the rest of the law schools out there, but at Useless Law School the study rooms are pretty much fishbowls. Each study room has a giant window and everyone walking past can see who is in the room and how much they are studying (or procrastinating in my case)...

I had dinner and drinks with some of my clinic colleagues this evening. Everyone was reminiscing about the horror that was first year. Two of my girlfriends (who are 3Ls- so a year ahead of me) were talking about how horrible their experience was, their section was super competitive, no one wanted to help anyone out and they never even thought about being friendly in a social type atmosphere...
