Busy, Busy

Posted on July 09, 2009
As if I'm not busy enough...adding back some freelance design work due to lovely State of CA budget/Rome is Burning. Figured that I need to have a plan b to assist plan a. Also, don't want to quit law school because of finances. Hence, my purchasing Adobe Master Suite Collection to my little toolbox...

Fog & 4OJ Weekend

Posted on July 06, 2009
One can still get a sunburn when its foggy. Who knew. Spent a wonderful day with a friend in SF and enjoyed the hell out of myself while there. Sure, I'm sunburnt and a little tender from it but will survive. Friday was about the coolest day of the weekend...

Really?

Posted on June 28, 2009
Answers to my flippant comment of "these definitions are brutal to memorize" are not:Walk away for a while. (master of proscratination here...I'd walk away until the night before the quiz or the day of and throw the quiz if I walked away for "a while"...

Adverse, Schmadverse

Posted on June 24, 2009
No, really...reading cases of people arguing about who shot the fox first truly rocks my world. And if that isn't enough, they had some form of a disagreement about it to the point the legal profession got involved. Now I understand why lawyers tend to lean towards the sport of drinking...

My Dad

Posted on June 22, 2009
He and I have a unique bond. We always have since I was kid. Dad was my running buddy, joint heir of dark humour, and we've always been close. So here's a few memories of my Dad:RoadtripsAbsolute blast with the guy. Gained his nickname "Napman" through them and can fall asleep the minute the car hits the highway...

Twist on Law Definitions

Posted on June 18, 2009
Rather I provide an interesting twist on some law defs to keep some smiles v. the crap that puts us all to sleep and makes us wish for Root Canals. Please indulge me as I am in personal property definition hell and full of wine at the moment. Liberal definitions at hand:Common Law - living with someone until folks assume you are married or have given up hope of attending said wedding...

Some Advice from Your Public Defender

Posted on June 13, 2009
Friend on Twitter (@sordideuphemism) sent this to me. Must share as it is funny and sobering. Came from The Best of Craigslist and originally posted on 26 April 2009.First, let me say I love my job and it is a privilege to work for my clients. I wish I could do more for them...

Growth

Posted on June 11, 2009
It takes an act of congress for me to sit still and NOT multi-task while studying law. I've heard the jokes about needing adderall to concentrate, sit, and study law...now I know why. Earlier I was kvetching about a quiz in class and a mate of mine said this:Your fate is in your hands...

Ten Things

Posted on June 07, 2009
Was tagged by Molly at The Lovin' Spoonful for this one. Firstly you have to tell your readers 10 things about you they may not know, but that are true. Secondly you have to tag 10 people with the award.I'm switching it up and just doing the first part since most of whom I'd tag...

Foxholes

Posted on June 05, 2009
Aren't just for war. They are good for law school too. Don't even think about peeking out while in one because you will get taken out, and fast. Tonight began the foxholing and I was laying low. Mind you, I can banter with the best of them and be willing to talk in class...

It Started With These

Posted on June 02, 2009
One year ago, these bad boys started what would soon become my signature mark on the world. So to honour my fave pair of shoes...the blog post that launched my mark of wearing red shoes, a time of my life that would end up being a crucible, and the pushing off for unknown oceans...

Back to Law

Posted on May 30, 2009
Registered yesterday for summer class and got the lowdown on sport of Personal Property Law. I'll be busy and slammed...normal for law. Super happy to be back in the swing of class. Good to have my routine back in full force.I'm sitting out on the back patio (Woot to summer studying - OUTSIDE!) with the book, notecards for which to write definitions, pens and paper, and the obvious laptop...

Happy as a Damn Clam

Posted on May 28, 2009
It will take a jackhammer to remove this smile. Pure serendipity, peeps, and its an incredible event I've waited a bit to see unfold. Love the cerebral banter and intellect all wrapped into a tall package that challenges the hell out of me. Don't care if said package sees themself as uninteresting...

The Rainbow Named J*

Posted on May 27, 2009
Despite the loss of Chris, the rainbow arrived in brilliant colours in the form of his sis...my cousin, J*. I hadn't talked with Jean since both of lead busy, busy lives and my Uncle is the one who keeps all parties on the same page. She's talked with Gramma several times but I wanted to reconnect with her...

Some of You are Curious

Posted on May 21, 2009
As to how I came to be "NoReinsGirl" on Twitter. Got it from Rascal Flatts song by that name and actually have a tat that says "No Reins". No, this is not referring to the one who loves reindeer sausage . He already knows this story...and thinks its pretty damn cool...

Clarification

Posted on May 21, 2009
As regards to Graphic Design...MicroHell Publisher is not a design tool. It is for hacks who think Comic Sans is cute and blinking links rawk. Microsoft Paint.... I will dismiss you from a design conversation when I hear this out of your mouth. Show me how to make Adobe Illustrator walk on water and I'm pretty much yours for the taking...

Girls and Boys

Posted on May 18, 2009
Life is good. Life is interesting and more in-depth than I let on around these parts. Last few weeks have seen some huge, huge happenings (all separate events) that were sad, angering, and freeing. I have grabbed the helm of each event and am refusing to let go, in part, out of responsibility and ownership...

Kayaking the Moke

Posted on May 14, 2009
It came to this on Monday...kayaking. Long awaited and well-earned by yours truly. After a week of the full moon approaching (work in an ER or law enforcement and you'll come to dread this), crazy work, and my cousin passing away I decided on some kayaking to clear my head...

Christopher P.

Posted on May 09, 2009
My cousin, who had Marfan Syndrome, lost his battle this week and died. He was my sister's age and incredibly smart. Most of his life, he'd been sick and we knew this day was going to arrive at some point and it did. Life was touch and go most of the time and it was never easy when he got sick...

Grades

Posted on May 04, 2009
Dear Law School Profs: Your insistence on my timely awareness during class term is appreciated and understood. However, this cuts both ways. If I am told "professors have four weeks in which to post grades" I fully expect said grades to appear magically at the agreed upon location (mailboxes) in said timeframe...

Shadowing a Public Defender

Posted on May 02, 2009
Day off and I hauled out of bed at Oh-Dark-Thirty to shadow a public defender. It was, by far, a huge success and learning experience for me. Shadowing someone who works in Crim Def provides such an eye opening view of how the law actually works and how it doesn't work is pretty impressive to this green 1L...

Raised the Bar

Posted on April 29, 2009
Did it. Twenty miles.Felt absolutely incredible to pedal that far. Slept like a stone and mellow as ever today. Halfway through the workout hit that zen-like state during a distance workout and it was the best feeling in the world...okay, almost the best...

A Pedal, A Paddle

Knee hurts since I overdid my little competition of 15.47 mi cycled in 60 minutes. I took last night off to let it rest and heal. Today its still sore but doesn't result in my yelping when I straighten and tighten it up. Ice, rest, and tlc were the order of the rest...

The Open Toed Shoe Pledge

Posted on April 23, 2009
As a member of the Cute Girl Sisterhood, I pledge to follow the Rules when wearing sandals and other open-toe shoes:I promise to always wear sandals that fit. My toes will not hang over and touch the ground, nor will my heels spill over the backs. And the sides and tops of my feet will not pudge out between the straps...

Office Space

Posted on April 22, 2009
I live this movie...promise.Back story is that we ran some ads in a Sunday paper on 4/12 and 4/19 for a position. Part of running an ad means the company gets "tear sheets" (actual ad from newspaper sent to party placing ad) following the run. It's now Wednesday, tear sheets are pulled on Mondays, and our account reps from paper are on vacay...

Blah Blah

Working Out

Posted on April 17, 2009
I need to be less competitive with myself. At this rate by June I'll be cycling a 100 miles a day. I keep adding miles to the workout. Why, you ask? This insane competition inside my head to one-up the last workout.Stop me before I bike to work. It's 50 mi each way...

Dicta

Posted on April 15, 2009
Dicta from my world...WorkoutsRamping up my workouts and getting back into the swing of them has been incredible for me. I'm so loving the hardcore sweat, exhaustion, sore muscles and the intoxicating flush of endorphins after a workout. I've bounced from 12 miles a workout to 14 miles in the same time frame on my recumbent bike and quite pleased with the efforts...

Defintion to Handling Stress

Posted on April 14, 2009
Being the avid reader of The Namby Pamby that I am...he so eloquently provided a definition of handling stress."(1) Open a bottle of wine (2) insert straw (3) inhale until *** becomes tolerable.  Repeat as necessary."I concur.

Conquering

Posted on April 05, 2009
What an insane, restful, relaxing, busy week.Bouncing back from finals that took so much from me mentally and physically to encounter grief. Grief that was thrust, immediate, and violent. It was an odd paradox to encounter so much stress in such a short span of time and it got me thinking about how much of life is not about ourselves...

Sunset for Some

Posted on March 30, 2009
Today, my family and numerous friends got word that someone we all knew well committed suicide this morning. He was a cool guy. Tapping 50 yrs old and had the world by its tail, successful in construction, and loved by all. Last fall the rug got pulled on him...

A Scrum and a Ruck

Posted on March 28, 2009
Okay...it was a brutal final. None of the practice exams, nor dry runs in class matched this whatsoever. I believe my exact words were "What the F***?!" and managed to invent a few new swear words after leaving the building.Honestly, it was a half-assed written question that insulted what we've learned this semester...

Chilling Out

Posted on March 27, 2009
Yeah, ready for tonight.Summer class is Personal Property and then in August its the Big Three of the 1L.Then I'll wax poetic for the days of electives.Weather is beautiful today and in the 70's. Got spring clothes out and planning an storming of Coldwater Creek come next week for updated wardrobe...

Phew

Posted on March 27, 2009
Locked and loaded for tomorrow night's final. Have the seven intentional tort[ure]s down pat and all elements of said items committed forever to memory. Know my formula for the exam cold and can spot an issue at a 1000 metres without a scope.So...if you see a raging fire, its my burning of the semester's worth of notes, outlines, briefs I will never need again.

Closing In

Posted on March 26, 2009
On wrapping up the studying for the day. Seriously, how many times can you write about intentional torts in one day? Apparently, a great deal. (One can also consume great quatities of Peanut Butter Girl Scout (TM) Cookies while doing so.)Discovering I do not like Torts...

Morning After

Posted on March 26, 2009
I'm sitting with my morning coffee, brekkie, ...and studying.I feel alive today. I've got an official law school final under my belt. One more to go. Totally chilling out, focused, more determined than a few day ago since I know what to expect tomorrow night (okay, aside from the palpable fear and panic in the classroom), and I have my game plan for the day...

Final #1

Posted on March 25, 2009
Hung out in jammies all day watching Discovery TV. Drank coffee, took in some kitteh therapy, and chilled. At school now, signed in with an exam number and connected. Ignoring the panicking mates around me who are attempting to elicit an answer from me as to what is on the exam tonight...

Oh Yes.

Posted on March 25, 2009
Thanks to Tanner and their Petit Verdot '06 for the chill out.Studying is done.I. Will. Own. Finals.Hit the zen-like chill. Milking it for all its worth. Like the calm.I rocked it this semester. Law is MY bitch now.

Frightening Realizations...

Posted on March 24, 2009
Tis Finals Eve and I've have some interesting thoughts run through my head in the last 24 hrs. They are:It would save me time this week if I dressed the night before and slept in my clothes. Can my car do auto-pilot? I mean, it knows the way to my work by this point...

48 and Counting

Posted on March 23, 2009
I'm roughly 48 hrs from my first final and have noticed a few things:Incredible focus.Level of exhaustion is off the charts. Whoa.Tolerance for stupid...gone."Whatever" attitude about everything outside law and close relationships. No bandwidth to spare...
