Suspended and Fired Lawsuit
Town of Alton agrees to pay former police chief $10,000 wrongful termination settlement.
Fired Police Chief
Alton, NH: (Mar-02-08) Kevin Iwans, a former police chief, brought charges against the town of Alton, alleging that he was wrongly terminated. The year-long legal battle between the chief and the town stemmed from he being suspended in November 2006 and fired in January 2007, while town officials investigated alleged misconduct. In a recent development in the case, sources on both sides confirmed that the parties had reached an out-of-court settlement in which the town paid $10,000 to former police chief Kevin Iwans, resolving the employment dispute. The settlement contains a non-admission clause. That means the settlement is a compromise of disputed claims and is not an admission of wrongdoing by the town. Additionally, Iwans acknowledged the settlement was an effort to establish peace from any further dispute with the town and that the money does not mean he was fully compensated. A confidentiality clause in the agreement says that all inquiries be directed to either Bauer or Iwans' attorneys who are instructed to reply with either "No comment" or "The matter is resolved."
