Double pay offered as part of class action wage dispute settlement, pending court approval.
Rutland School District settles wage dispute class action lawsuit.
Rutland, VT: (May-27-08) A class action lawsuit was brought against the Rutland School District, alleging that over 200 people who have worked at the Rutland South Supervisory Union are owed money in back pay. The suit claimed that the district withheld money from some employees, paying them less than minimum wage, while some others weren't paid in a timely fashion. Sources stated that the case started in 2006, after the wage discrepancies came to light. In its defense, District Superintendent Walter Goetz says he's not sure how the payment problems occurred.Sources stated that the class action suit reached settlement, in which the more than 200 people who have worked at the Rutland South Supervisory Union will receive back pay. Under the terms of the settlement agreement, people paid sub-minimum wage will receive double minimum wage for the time worked, minus what they received.
