Warriors Season in Review: 2007-2008
Posted on April 24, 2008(Warning: Long post about the Warriors. Read at your own risk.)So much promise. So much potential. So much success. So much pain. That was the year for my Golden State Warriors. In a year in which the Western Conference was stronger than I can ever remember, and perhaps stronger than any other conference in sports history, the Warriors finished the season at 48-34, good for 9th in the West...
Some Observations and Things to Report
Posted on April 06, 20081. I love living back up in the Bay Area.2. I've been working a temp job doing doc review for the last month. I have about 2 weeks left, and then who knows.3. I'm very disappointed in The Oracle fans who did The Wave while The Wizard of Azubuike (my nickname) shot free-throws...
Above Ground
Posted on February 11, 2008I apologize for not being attentive to this blog, but as you will soon find out, I've had my reasons. Since moving, I started working at a new firm, which I first thought would be a great fit. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a terrible fit. I'm not one to shy away from work, but when a first year attorney is asked to take on the role of partner, associate, paralegal and legal secretary, well there's only so much work one person can do...
Job Search Update VI: Return of the JedEye*
Posted on January 01, 2008For those of you I have not talked to in a while, and everyone else who reads this blog, I want to tell you all that I finally got a job. Not just a contract job, but a full time job. That's right, it finally happened. I actually landed the job a couple weeks ago, but just haven't gotten around to posting about it here...
Second Annual Dub Awards
Posted on December 24, 2007Since this was a little bit of a hit last year, I'm bringing it back, scaled down somewhat. So as we say goodbye to 2007, here are some of my favorite things from the year that I give awards to, but really, it's just a list of favorites, some of which I couldn't decide between...
Such Great Heights. Come Down Now?
Posted on December 03, 2007Everyone who is a regular reader or knows me personally, knows how tough a year 23 was for me. Well, I'm just here to report how good of a year 24 was. True, it wasn't the best year of my life, but I accomplished most of my top goals- graduating from law school, passing the bar, and having an active social life- and I had a lot of fun along the way...
Bill Business, Esq.
Posted on November 19, 2007For those of you I didn't talk to directly or who didn't check the pass list on the Bar's website, I passed! I followed that up with some fun celebrating in Vegas, and hopefully I can follow that up with a job soon.
11 Days of Agony
Posted on November 05, 2007With 11 days until the shit goes down, here are 11 things that have been going on with me:1. I was briefly employed on a contract basis doing patent litigation of all things. The case settled, and again, I am unemployed.2. I've been juggling 3 different fantasy sports, and trying to keep up with the Warriors, Cal football, NFL football and Liverpool...
Warriors Season Preview: 2007
Posted on October 14, 2007I know a lot of people are thinking, basketball already? It's October, I've got baseball playoffs, the NFL season, and College Football gone wild (or in Mac's case, ugh more sports?)! Well, with me, all those things are great, but the Warriors will always take center stage...
pickRpres in Soft Launch
Posted on October 04, 2007For those of you out of the loop, there's an election in a year, a pretty big one. So in anticipation of the election, myself and the founders of awesome music site pickRset have launched a website where you can inform yourself about the candidates running for President and demonstrate your support for those candidates...
Bright Spots
Posted on September 21, 2007It's been a really tough time, so here is a short list of things that have had me smiling:Football season is in full swing, and I'm loving Saturdays and Sundays. The Yanks and the Sox.Senator Larry Craig isn't gay, he just likes a wide stance. Oh yeah, he also likes men...
Mine is the Loneliest of Numbers
Posted on September 12, 2007For those of you waiting on me to post a job search update, here you go. After taking the bar exam and returning from my "bar trip," I have resumed the job search full stop. Unfortunately, despite my continuous efforts, I am still jobless. I did have two interviews with a government organization in Northern California that would have been a perfect fit (I've actually already worked on cases for them, and have written WINNING LEGAL ARGUMENTS for them!), but two weeks since the call back interview, they have not sent me so much as a rejection letter...
Official Present Tense Endorsement
Posted on September 05, 2007A couple months ago, I was wavering about who I would support as the Democratic nominee for President. After careful consideration, I have officially decided to back the candidacy of Senator Joe Biden from Delaware. Sure he may be an underdog and has flaws that can be exposed, but that does not change the fact that I believed that he is the most qualified and ready candidate for the office of the presidency...
Greetings from America Junior
Posted on August 19, 2007Here are some observations from Canada:The young people are so bored and behind here that they are taking to piercings, bad ones. The most popular seems to be the lip stud. There are an inordinately large number of Australians here (No, we're from New Zealand, the accent is completely different...
I'm the Mother Flippin' Rhymnoserous
Posted on August 08, 2007Typically, I don't review TV shows until I've watched the entire season, but I'm going to make an exception this time. After a few episodes of Flight of the Conchords on HBO, I've decided to let you all know that the show is awesome. The show follows two New Zealanders, Bret and Jermaine, who make up a two-man "digi-folk" band...
Meandering Thoughts of a Sports Fan of Today
Posted on July 31, 2007For the last 2 years, I've been salivating at the possibility of Minnesota trading superstar power forward Kevin Garnett to the Warriors. On draft night this year, it was supposed to happen, but because of communication issues, it didn't. Instead, my favorite Warrior, Jason Richardson, got traded for a college freshmen project who doesn't play hard, and today, KG is about to put on the green and white...
Once More Unto the Breach
Posted on July 23, 2007Dear friends and unknown readers, tomorrow is the beginning of the bar exam. For all those who are entering the battle with me, best of luck. I don't really have any inspiring words, other than we've all studied, a lot, and we will be prepared to do battle with the bar examiners, and here's what's we're going to do to them:Or if you prefer:
Dykes on Bikes Ride to Victory
Posted on July 13, 2007So I'm about to break some new ground here on the Present tense, that's right, I'm going to write about law! Yes, I've spent a good 7 hours already reading evidence law, but now it's time for some Trademark law.Today, the Federal Circuit dismissed a garbage suit by Michael McDermott that the name of a group of biker-lesbians "Dykes on Bikes" is offensive to men...
The Final Countdown
Posted on July 10, 2007With fourteen days left until the bar exam, here are 14 thoughts:1. I have about 6487 pnemonic devices, but I can't remember what any of the letters/words stand for.2. My favorite pnemonic device: I'd Totally Bang Uma (Elements for a Constructive Trust: Inadequate legal remedy, Tracing is Allowed, BFP's prevail over plaintiffs, and Unsecured creditors lose to plaintiff)3...
Live Blogging the NBA Draft
Posted on June 29, 2007So yesterday, the plan was just to lay down and watch the draft and try and read some Remedies notes on the side. Instead, my buddy Mark and I decided that it would be a far superior use of our time to comment the entire time on the draft. Keep in mind, this is all over e-mail, and if you weren't watching, you'll probably miss a lot of the jokes...
With the Eighteenth Pick...
Posted on June 27, 2007Tomorrow is the NBA draft, and following precedent I set last year, I'll go ahead and post a short Warriors preview.Coming on the heals of a good season and amazing post-season, the Warriors are looking to get stronger, and deeper. Personally, I don't really want the team to get younger and go for a project...
Got Those Bar Exam Blues
Posted on June 21, 2007For the last month, my life has become studying for the bar exam. Needless to say, this has not been much fun, and I'm not looking forward to continuing on this path, and actually ramping up, over the next month. The typical day is going to class for 3...
Pink Floyd, The Wall (Part 4 of 4)
Posted on June 14, 2007We pick up this last chapter of the Wall with "The Show Must Go On." Now revived, Pink contemplates not going to his show at all. Pink is pretty much tired of it all, and wants to just go home. His soul has been taken away and he's lost genuine feelings...
Pink Floyd, The Wall (Part 3 of 4)
Posted on June 13, 2007As we flip to side 2 of the Wall, we are re-introduced to Pink's story in "Hey You." Though Hey You does not appear in the film, it is still one of the most recognizable songs from the album, and by Pink Floyd. In Hey You, Pink is speaking to us "out there beyond the wall," as he is now firmly behind his wall...
Pink Floyd, The Wall (Part 2 of 4)
Posted on May 24, 2007We fill the empty spaces left in the last post by moving into "Empty Spaces," a transition song in the album moving from Pink's childhood into his adult life. In the song, Pink asks how to "fill the final spaces," and how to "complete the wall." This song anticipates Pink putting himself behind a wall, so as to isolate himself...
Pink Floyd, The Wall (Part 1 of 4)
Posted on May 16, 2007Written by Roger Waters, and performed by Pink Floyd, The Wall is the very essence of a concept album. An album, and a movie based on the music from the album, The Wall details the story of the fictitious rock star, Pink, from his childhood, to his rock star days, through his collapse into the abyss, his delusions of grandeur, and finally into his attempt to escape the abyss and go outside the wall...
Warriors Wrap Up
Posted on May 16, 2007Wow, what a season. Though we sort of ended with a thud, my Warriors exceeded all expectations this year, and made a hell of a run. Jigar was right, that once we made the playoffs, I would get greedy about winning, but in the end, I can't say that I'm disappointed...
Warriors Second Round Preview
Posted on May 06, 2007What is there to say about the First Round series 4-2 victory over the Mavs that hasn't already been said? I guess, if you talk to me in person about the Warriors, and see my face, that might tell you a little bit more. I don't think I've danced alone in my aparatment as much as I did last week...
