McCain's Brazilian Model

Posted on April 03, 2008
It's becoming clear, now that his past is being scrutinized, that John McCain has slept with a lot of women. And at least one of them was a Brazilian model. In his 1999 memoir, ?Faith of My Fathers,? McCain wrote about ?excessive drinking, nightclubbing and little or no sleep? and said, ?My imagination could not have embellished the good time we made of our nine days in port...

Heidi Montag Endorses McCain

Posted on April 03, 2008
One of the stars of MTV's The Hills has endorsed McCain.1. McCain knows who Montag is:McCain said,"I'm honored to have Heidi's support and I want to assure her that I never miss an episode of 'The Hills,' especially since the new season started."Incredible...

George W. Bush Sewage Plant

Posted on April 02, 2008
This is a clever attempt by a group of liberal San Franciscans to reverse honor George Bush by naming a sweage plant after him. Why? To honor our current leader of the free world with an "appropriate and enduring legacy, for no other president in modern American history has accomplished so much in such a short time...

Vice President Webb

Posted on April 02, 2008
I don't know what took people so long to discuss this. Obama has to pick a VP at some point. The smart money is on Webb.1. Part of the crowd of new Democrats of which Obama is a part of.2. Strong on security3. Not diverse (see this article for why pundits think a white guy is best)4...

Uh, April Fools? Anyone?

Posted on April 02, 2008
Clinton superdelegate says Obama will win the election.Except it's not an April Fools Joke.

Obama not Poaching Texas Delegates

Posted on April 02, 2008
Earlier I linked to a post reporting that Obama was trying to poach Clinton's delegates out the Texas caucuses. That previous report was wrong, and the alleged poaching was due to an error in a delegate list given to Obama by the Texas Democratic party...

University of California Fees Coming Back to Students

Posted on April 02, 2008
A few months ago, the California Supreme Court declined to hear the Regents' appeal over whether they breached contracts to students who enrolled in the fall of 2002.Like me.If you haven't submitted your contact info but fit that profile, you can do so by:(1) sending an e-mail to ucfees@rustconsulting...

With Seven Weeks to Campaign...

Posted on April 01, 2008
Obama could beat X in Y. For all X. And all Y.Three weeks to go. Rasmussen has Pennsylvania within five points.

Obama bowls a 37(!) in Pennsylvania

Posted on April 01, 2008
Spare us.Prediction: Clinton wins Pennsylvania unanimously. 100% to 0%.

Obama isn't a Fatty

Posted on April 01, 2008
The NYT Caucus blog has an interesting article about how Obama doesn't eat all the food he's given on the campaign trail because he's trying to stay fit.[A] blonde woman walks up and offers a jarful of chocolate doodads (that is, I believe, the term of cocoa-sweetened art)...

The McCain Girl[] Strikes Bck

Posted on April 01, 2008
Responding to certain criticisms that they can't sing, one of the McCain girls has made another video telling people to only say nice things or nothing at all.Not totally safe for work. Believe it or not, she actually uses the F-word.Hat tip: Anon 3:50

Clinon Loves the Rolling Stones

Posted on March 31, 2008
She can't wait for their new documentary:Call her a Honky Tonk Woman: Hillary Rodham Clinton is a big fan of the Rolling Stones.Speaking to reporters aboard her campaign plane Sunday morning, the Democratic presidential contender said she was eager to see "Shine a Light," the new documentary about the legendary rock band that was directed by Martin Scorsese and opens Friday...

Obama Tries to Poach Clinton's Texas Caucus Delegates

Posted on March 27, 2008
Change you can xerox?Bad news for all you Obamaniacs who reacted with righteous indignation when I reported on March 14 that Iowa county delegates pledged to your candidate were receiving robocalls from the Clinton campaign in the run-up to the coming county conventions (when such delegates can switch their allegiances): Team Obama is doing pretty much the same thing...

Reid Suggests Backroom Deal

Posted on March 27, 2008
A strange and vague statement from Harry Reid yesterday about the Democratic race:Question: Do you still think the Democratic race can be resolved before the convention?Reid: Easy.Q: How is that?Reid: It will be done.Q: It just will?Reid: Yep.Q: Magically?Reid: No, it will be done...

McCain On War

Posted on March 27, 2008
From McCain's speech yesterday:"When I was five years old, a car pulled up in front of our house in New London, Connecticut, and a Navy officer rolled down the window, and shouted at my father that the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor. My father immediately left for the submarine base where he was stationed...

New U.S. News Law School Rankings

Posted on March 26, 2008
Boalt moves up to 6th! Quite a comeback from 13th a few years ago.FYI -- the rankings are meaningful only because people acknowledge that they are meaningful.

At last, someone defends Hillary re Bosnia

Posted on March 26, 2008
Ejup Ganic, the former acting Bosnian president who greeted Hillary Clinton when she visited Tuzla in 1996, said today in an interview."Although the NATO troops were in Tuzla, we still believed that some positions on the hills were occupied by radical Serbs, so I was worried about the overall safety...

Boycotting the Olympics

Posted on March 24, 2008
Slate has the best case I've read so far on the subject, pro-boycott:1. Boycotts work.2. The Olympics are not always a force for good, i.e. Berlin in 1936.3. The Olympics are a good forum for protest.Seems persuasive to me.

Sinbad 1; Hillary 0

Posted on March 24, 2008
If there's one enduring legacy of the Clinton-Obama race, it's the ability to make the irrelevant relevant. Late primaries, delegate counts, pledged delegates, endorsements, political bloggers with time on their hands, Jesse Jackson's 1984 race, Ferraro, and on and on...

Selling Your Own Grandmother

Posted on March 24, 2008
Christopher Hitchens with a brutal take down of Obama:It's been more than a month since I began warning Sen. Barack Obama that he would become answerable for his revolting choice of a family priest. But never mind that; the astonishing thing is that it's at least 11 months since he himself has known precisely the same thing...

Carville Doesn't Apologize

Posted on March 24, 2008
If you're going to make an overly dramatic statement in this campaign, there's only one reaction that's genuine -- stay with it.And Carville does, re his Judas comment directed at Bill Richardson's betrayal of Hillary by endorsing Obama:But Carville, a CNN commentator, was unapologetic, telling CNN he knew the impact his words would have...

Good Idea?

Posted on March 24, 2008
While Hillary and Bill stump in Indiana for Dyngus Day (Easter Monday), Obama relaxes in the Virgin Islands, on St. Thomas. (warning, annoying video).Wonkette (who I think might be a dude now) has the snarky scoop.

Ferraro Trap, Sprung

Posted on March 23, 2008
When Geraldine Ferraro suggested that Obama is lucky because he's a black man, and that his followers are being caught up in that, she caught a lot of flack. But everyone else is proving her theory true. It's just that they're Obama supporters. From John Kerry:The Massachusetts senator said Obama has an ability to perhaps even empower moderate Islam "to be able to stand up against the racial misinterpretation of a legitimate religion...

Regarding Ferraro

Posted on March 23, 2008
A quick note on a point of confusion some have about Geraldine Ferraro's controversial statements. She stated, "If Obama was a white man [or a woman of any color], he would not be in this position." For what Ferraro said to be true, (1) Obama must have received some political benefits from his race and sex; and (2) without those benefits, and factoring in any costs a black man might confront in running for president, he would not be "in this position," which presumably means beating Hillary Clinton...

Democratic Dirty Tricks

Posted on March 23, 2008
One of the things to watch for this Fall is that the Democrats will stoop to anything to defeat John McCain.Even widely disseminating McCain's fan's Youtube Videos.Oh Em Gee. McCain is so effed.

Hillary is Jesus

Posted on March 23, 2008
And Bill Richardson is Judas.Describing the Richardson endorsement of Obama:?An act of betrayal,? said James Carville, an adviser to Mrs. Clinton and a friend of Mr. Clinton.?Mr. Richardson?s endorsement came right around the anniversary of the day when Judas sold out for 30 pieces of silver, so I think the timing is appropriate, if ironic,? Mr...

Kmiec Endorses Obama

Posted on March 23, 2008
Whenever there has been a major legal issue involving a political split between right and left, Douglas Kmiec has been solidly on the right. He even backed Harriet Miers for her Supreme Court nomination. So I'm pretty surprised to see that he's endorsed Obama...

McCain Aid Suspended

Posted on March 21, 2008
Soren Dayton, blogger occasionally at this site, and former McCain aid, was suspended today for emailing this video out to some people. Seems like a harsh penalty just for passing it on.The video is obviously slanted, but it doesn't seem like it's unfair or out of bounds...

"Whereupon There is Screaming"

Posted on March 21, 2008
You don't always see court reporters fighting off criminal defendants after they attack their lawyers. But sometimes you do:"Why don't you try me instead of her?" stenographer Ron Tolkin shouted at the cowardly criminal as he leaped on Wright, before the group fell to the ground in a heap...

Black Guy Asks Nation For Change

Posted on March 21, 2008
I'm so jealous I didn't think of this."I've already seen this guy four times today," Chicago-area ad salesman Blake Gordon said. "Every time, it's the same exact spiel. 'I need change.' 'I want change.' Why's he so eager for all this change? What's he going to do with it, anyway?"Hilarious.
