Adventures in Weight Loss Cont'd and Other Stuff
Posted on March 01, 2010End of Week 3: -1.0 lbs (total: -3.2 lbs)Not too shabby. I keep hoping I'll lose closer to 2 lbs a week, but I think unless I either kick the exercising up a few notches, or don't use my flex points on the weekends, that's unlikely to happen. Even so, just from the 3 pounds, I can tell my clothes are fitting a little better...
Crisis of Faith
Posted on February 26, 2010A priest once advised that if a person never has a crisis of faith, there's something seriously wrong. Believing without question, without thought, without exploration is harmful. If you believe after addressing your doubts, your fears, and your concerns, then you have a solid foundation for your belief...
Weight Loss Blogging
Posted on February 23, 2010Week 2: -0.8Well, that kinda sucks. But, hey, it's a loss, so I'll take it. Last week was apparently Stealth Fail Week, starting with the realization last night that I was eating too many points last week and that's why I didn't have much of a loss. (When I had my loss last week, it apparently lowered my daily points allowance...
Weekly weight update
Posted on February 15, 2010Week 1: -1.4 poundsWell, not as much as I expected. Some people lose as much as 5 pounds the first week. Weight Watchers says you should drop the first few pounds very quickly, because it's water weight, and drinking all that water should flush you out pretty quick...
Ms. JD -- 2010 Writers in Residence
Posted on February 14, 2010Yours truly is one of the Ms. JD 2010 Writers in Residence, wherein I will be submitting a monthly column on practicing law in a small town (Swimming in Small Ponds), shedding the veil of anonymity within the blawgosphere. (Not putting my mug on there though; I don't have any decent head shots that aren't drunk-face and/or are professional...
MILP Roundup #137
Posted on February 14, 2010The Weekly MILP (Moms In the Legal Profession) Roundup** is hosted on a rotating basis at the PT-LawMom, Attorney Work Product and A Little Fish in Law School blogs and is usually posted no later than Monday morning. Next week, Butterflyfish has it.Before we begin with the happy, on a sad note, LC's beloved mother-in-law is in hospice, but not quite ready to let go...
Battles
Posted on February 12, 2010The ABA Journal linked to this article on "how to date a lawyer." Aside from being pretty funny, there is a lot of truth to it. Particularly "citing sources" and "beliefs not supported by empirical evidence." This was always an issue with my ex. He would accuse me of some action (as in, "you always do X"), and then of course, I would come back and demand to know exactly when I did X...
More on weight, with a legal/political slant
Posted on February 09, 2010Last night, I took Cora to Chick Fil A for dinner, as we usually do on Monday nights, so that she could run around the indoor playground afterwards. Indoor playgrounds full of other people's screaming children are my personal hell, but Cora loves it, so there we are...
Starving
Posted on February 09, 2010Report after Day 1 of Epic Weight Loss Battle of Doom: I'm starving. I drank even more than the minimum water yesterday, so I just felt bloated and starving. I only exercised for 15 minutes. I ate all the recommended "stuff." I got all my servings of dairy, vegetables/fruits, protein, grains, and oils...
The Weight Loss Blog
Posted on February 08, 2010Today I received my testing date for a certain awesome agency run by the fed that investigates stuff. Which means, I really need to jump start my diet/work-out regimen so I can pass the fitness test. If I'm not going to end up working there, I want it to either be my choice, or just the fact they don't need my particular skill set (what is that particular skill set, you ask? Good question!)...
Prepare for Successful Repayment a/k/a Prepare for Constant Contact from Your Student Loan Collectors
Posted on February 02, 2010It is ridiculous how many emails and paper documents I get each month from the student loan people. It isn't bad enough that somewhere around $1100 comes out of my bank account a month to pay for my way overpriced diplomas, but then they have to constantly contact me to remind me that I'm in debt for pretty much the rest of my life...
MILP #135
Posted on February 01, 2010Butterflyfish has it. Then next week, PT-Lawmom will have it. Then it'll be back here. You know the drill.
Girly things
Posted on January 28, 2010I don't know how I ended up with such a girly girl for a daughter, because I was a tom boy and I always preferred playing with the boys than the girls. If I end up with a girly girl for a son, I'd totally understand that one. But an actual girl? Just don't get it...
Grown-up time
Posted on January 25, 2010Since we started our crazy schedule of living in two places, two hours away, having two daycares, we've made every effort to spend as much time together as a family, since we're each away from Cora two days a week. We don't get sitters anymore, we take Cora with us whenever we go out, and we stay home after she goes to bed...

Next week, Butterflyfish has it.What's up, Legal Moms? Apparently, lots of babies!First, let's all congratulate LL on her GIRL, who is still unnamed...
Fiction and Nonfiction
Posted on January 18, 2010I just finished reading Courting Kathleen Hannigan by Mary Hutchings Reed. The book is a little over two years old. Of course, when it came out, I was busy in law school, while largely pregnant. So, I'm slowly getting around to my reading list, and this one had been lingering near the top for awhile now...

Ending a Very Long Two Weeks
Posted on January 15, 2010The past two weeks have been exhausting. Crazy clients, crazy lawyers, crazy assignments. Fortunately, The Boss went to Motion Hour today, so I can chill at the office for a little while and look through the stuff piled on my desk. Last night, I finished up a response memo to a summary judgment motion on one of our lower-value cases, being defended by expensive attorneys...
"Could we speak to someone who knows what they're doing? Like, you know, a man?"
Posted on January 12, 2010When I was 18, I started working for the [now-defunct] computer superstore, at its local grand-opening. Although I would eventually move to corporate sales, I started out at the "upgrades counter," selling computer parts to customers who wished to upgrade their machines, or build their own from scratch...
MILP # 132
Posted on January 11, 2010... is over there. You'll find it at PT-Lawmom next week. Then it shall return here.
Things
Posted on January 05, 2010Things That Annoy Me. 1. Snow. I hate snow. Unless it gets me out of work, which it doesn't unless there's a blizzard, and I don't really think staying home from work is worth dealing with a blizzard. So, yeah, I hate snow. 2. People who ask for my advice and then completely ignore it and do the stupid stuff we both agreed they shouldn't do...

New Year's Resolutions and Reflections
Posted on December 30, 2009Yes, it's that time again. Time to make resolutions for the new year that I very likely won't keep. But hey, New Year, time for new beginnings and another try. So what do I want to accomplish in 2010?Well, for starters, I need to get more sleep. I have a very bad habit of going to bed way too late, which leaves me not getting nearly enough sleep, and I feel run down in the morning when I wake up, I move to slow, and I'm consistently running late because inevitably something will happen...
In review
Posted on December 29, 2009I finally made it back to work today, after coming down with the Death Plague initiated by my own child on Sunday afternoon. Fortunately, it was not as bad as what Husband got, since I recognized the signs early enough to properly dope myself up with some phenergan to mitigate the projectile vomiting...
The Holiday Post
Posted on December 25, 2009It's Christmas evening. The Husband is at work, the Bunny is in bed, the Dog is passed out on the couch, and I'm hanging out in the bedroom blogging, then watching some Christmas-related geekery. (I'd tell you what that geekery is, but it would kick my geekery up to unbelievable levels...
Dissolution and organization
Posted on December 18, 2009I've been doing some after-hours legal work lately, as personal favors. Two involve divorces, one involves matters of power-of-attorney and a will (which then reminded me that I need to draft wills for us... I have a holographic one, but we've changed our minds about a few things), another two wills, a landlord-tenant issue, and business organizations...
