Fatness
Posted on April 27, 2010I GAINED 2 pounds this week. Fail! This would be because on Saturday I consumed (along with Husband and FIL) FIVE BOTTLES OF WINE, buttery salmon, and a loaf of bread. Then last night, we went to celebrate Husband's completion of his degree requirements (he did his comps yesterday) and got massive amounts of sushi, Dairy Queen (I got the lowest points item on the menu), then later had a bottle of wine and some bread and hummus...

Crap
Posted on April 24, 2010Literally. Normally it's just figurative shit, but this week, we ended up with the real stuff too.We had a really disgusting sewage issue at the office on Friday, as some a-hole flushed a bunch of paper towels down our toilet during my depositions on Thursday...
New Column
Posted on April 23, 2010I forgot to mention... I have a new column up over at Ms. JD.Happy Weekend!
The Deposition That Does Not End
Posted on April 22, 2010I spent all day in depositions today, what a long day. I didn't even get lunch, because we only took a break at 2 o'clock and there was no time to run out and get something and scarf it down before coming back and having a conference call with the judge, because opposing counsel kept trying to get my client to violate HIPAA...
Quick post
Posted on April 19, 2010Super busy this morning, but I wanted to post the new weight loss: -1.0 pounds. Total weight loss: -10 pounds. It's amazing how much better I feel not carrying around that extra 10 pounds, and another 5 pounds means I will have to buy new clothes...
Maintaining optimism
Posted on April 15, 2010I'm trying to stay optimistic today, even though today has royally sucked. We got the decision in on my client whose hearing was last week, and we lost, big time. Now I'm blaming myself, because she should have taken the deal in mediation, even though it was total crap, because it was still more than she got, which was nothing...
But I like my stripper shoes...
Posted on April 14, 2010Above the Law had this article reporting on a recent panel discussing professional attire. Definitely, for interviews and jury trials, conservative and well-groomed is the way to go. But when it comes to the rest of the time, I don't think conservative, boring and stuffy is necessary...
Trip to the dentist
Posted on April 14, 2010Cora spent the night with Grandma last night, since she had her very first dentist appointment this morning. We decided my mom should take her, since she goes to the same dentist (also my dentist) back in Hometown (where Mom lives... it's like 20 minutes south of The City), so we made their appointments together...
MILP Roundup #145

Weekend!!
Posted on April 09, 2010Whew, it's been a long, exhausting week. I am ready to go home and see the family! Since Cora was sick, I didn't take her with me to Small Town this week. I've also been feeling a bit under the weather too, and just plain exhausted, so I didn't even make the trip back to The City during the week...
This week in weight loss
Posted on April 06, 2010I dunno how I did it, but I actually had a loss for the week, even with scarfing down an entire package of Reese's peanut butter eggs. (OMG delicious)Week's loss: -0.8. To date: -8.8 pounds. My pants are getting pretty loose. Another 5 pounds and they'll have to be retired...
Academia
Posted on April 06, 2010I have a college interested in me as an adjunct! A college that has an IR program!Of course, it reminds me that I've done absolutely nothing of academic value since 2006. (Law school has no academic value. None whatsoever. Journal schmournal.) I need to get back on the band wagon and get caught up on the latest literature...
Vindication
Posted on April 05, 2010If you've been with me here on this blog for the past 3 years, then you probably recall the amount of bitching I did that our law school had ZERO interest in promoting our pretty much non-existent international law program. The problem with this is that on paper, it looked like we had a stellar program, such as having tons of international course listings in the bulletin (which hadn't been offered in over 5 years, but they don't mention that)...
MILP Roundup #144
Posted on April 04, 2010The Weekly MILP (Moms In the Legal Profession) Roundup** is hosted on a rotating basis at the PT-LawMom, Attorney Work Product and A Little Fish in Law School blogs and is usually posted no later than Monday morning. I'm picking up double duty, as Butterflyfish is going radio silent for the month of April, so it'll be here again next week...
Crazy, continued
Posted on April 04, 2010This week:1. Trial fail. Not for lack of Awesome on the part of Boss Dude. Boss Dude rawks. We should've had it, even the judge and clerk were surprised. But, what can you do. You can lead a jury to the instruction, but you can't make 'em sign it...
Kiddie Stuff
Posted on March 29, 2010I was marveling yesterday at Cora's friend L, who is about 3 1/2 months older than Cora (L will be 3 at the end of August). She's potty trained, she talks in clear, coherent sentences, and her motor skills are excellent. It's just amazing to think that by the end of summer, that will be Cora...
Suck Week
Posted on March 28, 20101. Weight. I lost 1.6 pounds last week, no clue how that happened. However, I've likely gained that back sometime during the week and then lost some more this weekend. Ugh. I think I'm attached to a yo-yo. I had epic diet fail during the week, where I had a slice of cheesecake one evening, and scarfed down three buttery bread rolls during dinner out with my neighbor, but then I had such a horrible day Friday, I never even had a chance to eat or drink anything until 4:30, I was that effin' busy with just crazy stuff...
A girl and her dog
Posted on March 21, 2010There is a definite symbiotic relationship between the kid and the dog. The dog happily takes her abuse in exchange for the attention and/or scraps of discarded food. (The dog is an excellent vacuum cleaner.) But today Cora was being extra sweet to Bernie...
Roller coasters
Posted on March 18, 2010The past few weeks, I've been on a roller coaster in my professional life. Some days things just really click, and I'm sure I'm doing the right work, in the right place, and doing it well. Then some days, it's like, WTF? All of my doubts and frustrations have to do with family law...
This Week in Weight Loss
Posted on March 15, 2010Week 5: -0.6 (Total weight loss: 4.8 pounds)Argh! So close to the 5 pound milestone, yet so far. Anyway, I am officially 10 pounds lighter than I was when I took the bar exam, so that's a definite win! Even so, I did not do well this past week, but I am still proud of myself for keeping it under control...

Posted on March 15, 2010The Weekly MILP (Moms In the Legal Profession) Roundup** is hosted on a rotating basis at the PT-LawMom, Attorney Work Product and A Little Fish in Law School blogs and is usually posted no later than Monday morning. Next week Butterflyfish will have it...
Losin'
Posted on March 08, 2010Week 4: -.8 (total weight loss: 4.0 pounds)Averaging 1 pound of weight loss per week still. I was happy with the .8 pound loss because I have no earthly idea how many points I consumed over the weekend. Husband and I went to a wedding reception Saturday night, and it's not like catered food comes with nutritional information...
Life's soundtracks
Posted on March 05, 2010I tend to assign different songs or quotes to different aspects of my life. Like, for instance, one of our current family law cases has "Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga assigned to it in my head. I can't open the file without humming "I want your love and all your lover's revenge, you and me could write a bad romance...
Local Asshattery
Posted on March 02, 2010I encourage all of you to give this asshat a call, a letter, a flaming bag of poo, whatever your preference, and let him know that he's a giant asshat, since he apparently doesn't know.Jim Bunning hasn't been lucid for years. Clearly. (I've had a few friends who interned for him tell me that...
