New focus

Posted on September 05, 2009
I started a new blog to focus on food - I will continue to use this space sporadically, but any food posts will be found here. I didn't want the posts there linked to some of my more angsty posts here, so I would prefer if anyone is still reading here that you didn't link back to here from that blog...

The funk

Posted on August 30, 2009
Woe is me, for I am in a funk. I should be in a great mood, because for the first time since I quit my job to go to law school, I have an office. Yes, it is true - an office. With a door. And I'm the only one that sits in it.BUT. The new building our company moved into has four floors...

Sunday cooking

Posted on August 16, 2009
I went to work for a couple of hours this morning, quickly wrote some things, and hightailed it home. Because today it is Sunday, and today I feel like cooking.Sage roast chicken + yukon gold potatoes & roast carrots:French bread:Banana bread with chocolate and ginger (slightly modified from another recipe in Orangette's book):Cashew chocolate crinkle cookies:Mapo tofu (with green beans from the garden):Yum.

Everybody's working for the weekend

Posted on August 13, 2009
At least I am. I am DRAINED this week.Last week, a small group of people were re-audited because there were "concerns" about their performance. I was not in that group, praise jeebus. But a few of my classmates were. A couple of them did not make it through and are no longer with the company...

Tomatoes

Posted on August 09, 2009
We have a ridiculous number of tomatoes. The garden is a wonderful thing, but having a garden is not like going to the store - I would like 5 to 10 nice, ripe tomatoes a week. Year round. Instead, for two months we are buried in tomatoes (so much so that I begin to hate the sight of them, just a little) and the rest of the year I pine for them...

This just in: plaid is apparently

Posted on August 05, 2009
This just in: plaid is apparently huge for fall. D'oh. Please, someone stop me if I try to recreate eithe my Catholic school years or my "grunge" years.

I was out of town for many days

Posted on July 30, 2009
I was out of town for many days and had no internet. Althouse posted 90 items. LOL Cats posted 49. I don't know if this means anything at all.

Stuff

Posted on July 11, 2009
I got my new phone last week, and activated mobile posting. Hopefully I will post more often - I get stuck in this rut where I feel like I have to post something epic and meaningful since I haven't posted in so long. But then I don't have time, or I have nothing that feels sufficiently deep to post about, and I put it off again (I am a lawyer, procrastination is second nature)...

Clothes

Posted on June 06, 2009
I have a shirt problem. Also a font problem above, apparently. Why is everything underlined?Anyway, see above re: shapeless weird shirt. What should I do with it?Fashion bloggers say, wear a belt. So I acquired a giant belt.My sister says, now wear it with pants, not a skirt...

Blah blah blah

Posted on May 26, 2009
I am so bad at blogging! I am also bad at work-life balance and at eating less than 1400 calories a day. Oh well.1. WorkNear-constant. I worked three weeks straight and then took a day off, and enjoyed it so much I took a day off the next weekend too...

Still

Posted on April 20, 2009
I still suck at blogging! Surprise! Oh well.I made a variation of this salad on Saturday - quite tasty, thanks Heidi! Here are the modifications I made:1. I used craisins instead of raisins - I hate raisins. I don't know why, I know they are just dried up grapes...

Dude. Srsly.

Posted on April 12, 2009
I took a day off yesterday! It was awesome. I did exactly nothing all day long. The last day I had off at home was March 7th. We were in Vegas for 5 days at the end of March, but when I came back everything was a shitstorm... and I was working like crazy before leaving too...

April Fool's Day

Posted on April 01, 2009
Carol wins.

Fired.

Posted on March 25, 2009
I am terrible. I never post, and when I do post I have nothing interesting to say.1. Work is crazy! Also, I am working all the time and so (a) have very little besides work to talk about and (b) am really tired.2. We went to Vegas. It was fun. I think we stayed about a half day too long, because by the end of it I was about ready to stab my mother (she's living there this winter) and also was dying to not see anyone's ass on a billboard when I left the house...

Awesomeness

Getting paid for working on the weekends.A 50+ degree day in February.Figuring out how to change my bike pedals.New yellow purse.Friends that come visit from KC.Belgian beers and frites. Dogs to sit with while I play on the intertubes.I am very lucky...

Very very

Posted on January 19, 2009
Busy.  Work has picked up, and so I've been working some weekends to keep on top of things.  It's not bad though, because I got paid double time this weekend (whoo!  holiday weekend!) for 13 hours of work.  Also, the work is interesting and the time always goes quickly...

Evaluation

Posted on January 11, 2009
Happy 2009! I suck at blogging still. Oops.Resolution recap:1. Gym going well. Plan for this year is 2x a week spinning, 2x a week circuit/strength training, and 2x a week plain ol' boring cardio.2. I have been flossing every day. Yay.3. Curt has been to the gym 3x a week for...

Merry, merry, merry.

Posted on December 27, 2008
I had a snow day on Friday, December 19th. It was a perfect illustration of how my new workplace values its employees over the almighty Must Put In Forty Hours Or Turn Into A Toad attitude of most employers. Also, it was really nice to be able to stay home and bake cookies...

It's thundering! And snowing! I really hope they cancel everything tomorrow so I can stay home and bake cookies.br /br /I have nothing to complain about at work. This is remarkable, even though it has only been a bit over a week. br /br /Everyone is really, really nice...

New job

Posted on December 13, 2008
I suppose I should keep this story going and tell about the new job, eh? I'm sure you've all been waiting with baited breath. The new job is going well. It is like night and day from the old place - when I started, my desk was set up and I had pens and a stapler and sticky notes...

We're famous!

Letter of Resignation

Posted on December 07, 2008
Not the one I actually gave my boss. But the one I wish I could have given him...My last day there was Friday. I start New Job on Wednesday. I am hopeful that it will work out - that I can quit being so freakishly obsessed with figuring out what to do with my life and just LIVE my life...

By the power of Grayskull...

Posted on November 28, 2008
Or of the intertubes. All of your good vibes must have worked, because I had my second interview on Wednesday and got a job offer that afternoon. Yay! Now I need to figure out what to say in my letter of resignation. Perhaps I will draft two - one that I will actually give to my boss, and one that says everything I wish I could say in the other...

Posted on November 20, 2008
I have a second interview next week. Eeeeeeeeee.

Whyyyyyy

Posted on November 17, 2008
Why haven't they emailed me to set up another interview?  Why don't they loooooooooooooooove me?Augh.  Hate waiting.

Nada

Posted on November 17, 2008
No call.  No email.  I feel like a teenager waiting to be asked to prom.  Sigh.  In the meantime, I am trying (desperately) to concentrate on my current job and learn how to do it.  Just in case I actually uh, have to do it eventually...

Today I am

Posted on November 16, 2008
Cooking like crazy.  I made a spinach and chard risotto, baked Louisiana red beans and rice, and cheddar chicken chowder.Avoiding thinking about work.  Trying to at least.  I am dying to see what kind of crazy this week will bring.  And also if I will really get a second interview with this company...

Interview

Posted on November 12, 2008
So I think it went well.  The guy told he that I'll be brought in for a second round of interviews sometime in the next couple of weeks.  My current boss finally hired a receptionist.   She started yesterday.  She's very nice and I think is going to get screwed over 8 ways from Wednesday working at this place...

Intertubes

Posted on November 10, 2008
Please wish me luck tomorrow at noon, as I have an interview then.

Yes, it's true.

Posted on November 09, 2008
The stuff in my previous post about my office?  Totally true.  Oh, and the law clerk is currently sitting in my office.  Did I mention that part?  That I am sitting up front and answering the phone while I am a licensed attorney, and that one of my classmates who failed the bar is clerking for the firm and sitting in MY OFFICE?  Right, that part...

Pros and cons

Posted on November 07, 2008
+ Barack Obama won the election! Eeeeee! - Stayed up far too late and drank tooooo many Ciroc Obamas at the bar (vodka, lemonade, Chambord) and was VERY grumpy at work on Wednesday.+ I am employed.- I am still not sitting in my office.- I am in fact still answering the fucking phone...

Yawn

Posted on October 18, 2008
I seem incapable of writing a real post, so here is another list.1. Project Runway finale was kind of meh. The only designer I had a strong opinion on was Kenley, and that was based mostly on personality. I thought their final shows were ok but nothing mind-blowing...

This & that

Posted on October 08, 2008
I am terrible at updating.  And I can't talk about a lot of things that go on at work (pesky attorney-client privilege!) so I am left with little fodder for blog posts and almost no time to write anyway.  So.  Another list. 1.  The Sex and the City movie was kind of meh...

So busy

Posted on September 26, 2008
Some things I have been thinking of - I haven't had time to create a real post:1.  Suede?  You were robbed.  Kenley Spears was a bitch to Tim Gunn and had BY FAR the worst outfit on that runway.  2.  My office is ready!  Yay!  My computer doesn't work yet so I can't actually sit in there...

Passer

I passed the bar.Holy shit!  I'm going to be a licensed attorney!  Watch out world.

Quiet

Posted on September 06, 2008
Last night we had many drinks. There is a music festival going on in our neighborhood, and there were a lot of people around at the bar. We ordered pizza and hung out talking to people for hours. And had many drinks.Tonight, we decided to stay in and grill some tuna...

Baby I've got your number

Posted on August 30, 2008
This has been a long couple of weeks. Long. The receptionist quit at work. Since I am technically the "law clerk" still, being unlicensed and all, I am doing a lot of petition preparation/paralegaly stuff anyway. So the receptionist quits (via email - klassy) and the paralegals are all screwed because there is no one to answer the phone, so I am also screwed...

Remarkable

Posted on August 11, 2008
Two amazing things happened today, both money-related.1. I got a paycheck. I got paid for working at a law firm and it was not as a clerk. Praise jeebus!2. We got money back from our mortgage company. Apparently we overpaid into our escrow account by $133 last year...

A day of firsts

Posted on August 04, 2008
Today was my first day of work. My first day as a non-law-student type grown-up. While I suppose it's not as traumatic as when I was 22 and had my first real job EVER, it was still kind of weird. This feels different than the four + years of work I did before I went to law school, somehow, and I don't really know why...

Bar: Done

Posted on July 31, 2008
I'm so happy to be done. But I feel kind of lost, to be honest. Like when the wedding was over - you plan and plan and plan, and then afterwards it's just... over. Some comments for the bar examiners:Mechanical pencils? Water? Chapstick? A granola bar? All of these things would have been most welcome during the bar exam...

Vegetables

The rest of the grit-eating world

Posted on July 25, 2008
This morning, I dropped off my car to get the oil changed and figure out why my brake lights wouldn't work. Must be safe while driving 130 miles to take the bar exam, right? Then I did flashcards for several hours, and helped my sister buy her first Real Interview outfit...

Poor timing

Posted on July 24, 2008
My post-bar books arrived in 36 hours. Too quickly! I didn't expect them to arrive until I was gone taking the bar exam.I also ordered Ruhlman's new book, but it doesn't come out until April 2009. I figure by that time I'll have completely forgotten that I ordered it, and it'll be a lovely surprise!Must...

Rollercoaster

Posted on July 22, 2008
Today, I think I might fail the bar. But in a really un-dramatic fashion - that I will either pass or fail, and that I will probably fail. It really depends on the questions though - there have been a couple of practice exams that I felt I would do ok on, and a couple that I just would not be able to answer at all...

Ready, aim, fire

Posted on July 18, 2008
It is amazing what half a day off and 9 hours of sleep will do for your perspective. Am feeling much less burned out today, and ready to learn some Evidence. Um, yay? Oh well, at least I am studying.11 more days until the bar starts.

The wall

Posted on July 17, 2008
I have hit it. I know that I need to keep studying, but I just. can't. do. any. more. today. I'm so burned out. I spent a few hours this morning at Panera trying to get some stuff into my brain, and instead spent the time rereading the same sentence over and over...

Time

Posted on July 14, 2008
In one week, I will be 29.In two weeks, the bar exam begins, at 8:30 am.I am not terribly well-prepared for either. Back to studying for the one I can actually prepare for - 29 will come and probably be about the same as 28, no matter what I do about it.

The details

Posted on July 11, 2008
The devil is in the details; oh yes, he is. Especially of Civ Pro. Which I hated as a 1L and never really learned all that well, because trying to learn it for the bar is NOT FUN AT ALL.I seem to have a productivity crash on Thursdays. Last week I thought it was because we had a few glasses of wine on Wednesday night, but it happened this week too...

Time keeps on slippin'

Posted on July 07, 2008
The bar starts 3 weeks from today. Holy crap! This is how my day went today:Up way too early.Business associations.Trusts.MBE flashcards.More trusts.More MBE flashcards.100 Con Law questions.Read incorrect answers and create even more flashcards on those rules of law...

Feeling: Accomplished

Saturday night, my (former) personal trainer married the guy who owns the bar up the street. Much partying ensued. The happy couple. Awwww.Aren't we so cute? That is my super-70s fabulous dress. I love it. We drank and danced far into the wee hours of the morning...

You really like me!

Posted on June 28, 2008
Or at least you really like my hair. If you are white. It has been an eventful week. I was in New Orleans with Erika from Sunday to Wednesday. We ate and drank entirely too much, and had quite a good time. It is ungodly hot in New Orleans in June though...

In summary

Posted on June 21, 2008
Some pics from last week - not from BarBri, luckily for you.The garden, it grows! The front patch is rainbow chard, arugula, and some beets. The empty looking patch at the front left has carrots and scallions - they are very, very small still. The back patch is peppers, tomatoes, and brussels sprouts! I can't wait for the brussels sprouts, they look so cool on the stalk...

Fack

Posted on June 19, 2008
Full-length practice MBE this afternoon. Dismal, distressing score. Augh. Studying for this test is a nightmare that I fear is just going to end in failure and having to retake it in February.Friday afternoon, my boss from last summer finally 100% agreed to hire me after the bar exam...

Today is a new day

Posted on June 12, 2008
New hair today. Now with more bangs! My seester and I. We're not related or anything, are we?Evidence today. So boring, and I loved evidence when I took it! Ah well. Seven weeks and this will all be over, which is just a drop compared to six semesters of homework and angst...

Channeling

Posted on June 10, 2008
I am channeling my bar exam anxiety into the house. The kitchen is clean. The bathtub is scrubbed. I made a casserole. And some peach/strawberry crumble. I am currently doing my third load of laundry today. A nice man dropped a dumpster in our driveway today and this weekend I am going to clean the shit out of our driveway and basement...

Another discovery

Posted on June 08, 2008
Watching Iron Chef Battle Corn tonight, I discovered another food I will not eat. It is huitlacoche, a fungus that grows on ears of corn. They look like black, tumerous kernels of corn. Shudder. Even Wikipedia agrees with me.So the list of things I absolutely won't eat are:1...

Breakfast & the bar exam

Posted on June 07, 2008
Nice, huh? Omelette with cheese, salsa, cilantro, and avocado on top. Yum.Good Saturday morning breakfast. Especially since I have to start studying for today soon (sigh).Studying is going all right, I think. I am doing solidly well on contracts & property practice questions, not as well on con or crim...

Memorial Day

Posted on May 26, 2008
First day back at the gym since before my ER adventure. It was fine, but a little tough - I am still having a bit of pain when I take a deep breath, so it makes working out difficult.Tonight, we grilled a butterflied whole chicken brushed with BBQ sauce, and some potatoes...

Unnecessary Excitement

Posted on May 25, 2008
Yesterday, I went to the doctor's office at 11 am and ended up spending all afternoon in the ER. Friday afternoon, I was having some odd shoulder pain, and it developed into some bizarre pain up and down my left side. Saturday morning, I woke up and had no appetite at all, so decided something was really wrong and that I should call the doctor...

Friday night's all right

Posted on May 23, 2008
Not very exciting, but we made some good food:Chicken bahn mi with braised baby bok choy. And then we made honey cake:Which was freaking AWESOME, even though it wouldn't come out of the pan. And then watched Eddie Izzard talk about history and snowboarding and the Heimlich maneuver...

Wednesday

Posted on May 21, 2008
Yesterday was bad. Bad bad bad. It began with 7 hours of contracts lectures and the afternoon hours ended with me eating Nutella with a spoon out of the jar as I contemplated getting a real estate license after I fail the bar exam. Oh, and the city is trimming trees in our neighborhood so all day long it was chainsaws and woodchippers...

Plugging away

Posted on May 18, 2008
I finished my first run-through with the PMBR CDs today. Um, yay? The first day of the bar exam is nine weeks from tomorrow. I have so much to learn. The wedding last night was a lot of fun. Everyone looked pretty. Especially my sister and I:We drank many cocktails and ate too much chicken parmesan and cake...

Last night

Posted on May 16, 2008
We helped set up for G & P's wedding. It was fun. We put together topiaries and made tissue paper flowers. The blushing bride is confused as to how one decorates with paper flowers. Also, my bar review books arrived yesterday. Um, yay? I can't wait to learn all of this stuff...

New camera!

Posted on May 14, 2008
I spent some of my graduation money on a new digital camera. It's so wee and fast! Especially compared to my old camera, which I got in either 2002 or 2003 and which was being held together with duct tape. Now even more pictures of dogs!Kira is curious about the new toy...

Severely Boring

Posted on May 12, 2008
PMBR CDs are very, very boring. Also, one of the lecturers says "defend-ANT" instead of defendant. Like some sort of special type of insect. The Defensive Ant. It's distracting.I graduated! Yay! I am still trying to recover from Friday night though...

The passage of time

Posted on May 09, 2008
Operation eat body weight in sushi for my sister's birthday was completed. The evening was a rousing success. My head hurts, and she in 22-year-old fashion just woke up and seems to feel fine. Ah, if only to have the alcohol metabolizing abilities I had when I was 22...

People are rude

Posted on April 21, 2008
This morning, I rode my bike to school.  A woman yelled out her car window "Get on the sidewalk, stupid!"  As you can probably imagine, I was pleased that she was so concerned about my safety.  Sadly, she has no idea what she is talking about since it is ILLEGAL TO BIKE ON THE SIDEWALK...

Awesomeness

Posted on April 19, 2008
I love my bike so hard. Seriously. This morning I biked from the house to the coffee shop (~5 miles) to study. I was so bummed out the past two days because it was raining and I couldn't bike anywhere! But alas, now I must study instead of just riding around looking at stuff...

Done!

Posted on April 16, 2008
To my great astonishment, I actually DID all the stuff I was going to do last weekend. Oh happy day.I am done with classes. Eep.Three real finals, one two-week take-home final, and then graduation.I'm taking today off before I start working on the finals though...

Busy weekend

Today I get something done.

Really. I swear.I have one more week of school, but three of my classes have wrapped up already. So I have a presentation (5 t0 10 minutes) and three actual classes left standing between me and finals. Unfortunately, I have done very, very little this semester (surprise!) and so I am completely f'ed...

Oh baby baby

Posted on April 04, 2008
We have been doing an experiment. It seems that you can substitute "Nettie" for the word "baby" in most pop songs without losing anything beat-wise, and while gaining much amusement. So I present - Hit Me Nettie, One More Time:Oh Nettie Nettie, oh Nettie NettieOh Nettie Nettie, how was I supposed to knowThat something wasn't right hereOh Nettie Nettie, I shouldn't have let you goAnd now you're out of sight, yeahShow me how you want it to beTell me Nettie cuz I need to know now, oh becauseChorusMy loneliness is killin' me (and I)I must confess I still believe (still believe)When I'm not with you I lose my mindGive me a sign, hit me Nettie one more time!Oh Nettie Nettie, the reason I breathe is youGirl you've got me blindedOh pretty Nettie, theres nothin' that I wouldn't doThats not the way I planned itShow me how you want it to beTell me Nettie cuz I need to know now, oh becauseChorusOh Nettie Nettie, how was I supposed to knowOh pretty Nettie, I shouldn't have let you goI must confess that my lonelinessIs killin' me nowDon't you know I still believeThat you will be hereAnd give me a sign, hit me Nettie one more timeChorusI must confess (my loneliness) that my loneliness(is killing me) is killing me now(I must confess) don't you (I still believe) know I still believeThat you will be here (I lose my mind)And give me a sign...

"Exercising judicial discretion" is just fancy lawyer talk for "making shit up."

Things I have learned

Posted on April 02, 2008
We clean up pretty well. When your boss asks you to "find some case law that says X," you can add to the end of that sentence "because I can't find crap, and frankly I don't think anything exists, but look for it anyway." Therefore, writing this memo has been like trying to sculpt David out of jello...

Unprecedented

Posted on March 29, 2008
Two posts in one day! Shocking. The only picture of us I have so far. Poor Curt, half his head is gone. And the lighting is woefully horrible. But you can see a glimpse of the shoes!I am thinking about getting a bike. I have a very small car and it still cost me $35 to fill it on Thursday; gas is $3...

Prom

Posted on March 29, 2008
Barrister's Ball was last night. We had a ton of fun and I wore my Barbie shoes, which were a huge hit. Pictures later hopefully.I bought a pair of size 10 jeans yesterday for a small fortune. When I started back up with working out, I had just purchased my first pair of size 16 jeans, which is why I started going to the gym again in the first place...

Eddie Izzard on Easter

Posted on March 23, 2008
Now we should all remember the reason for Easter:"So the Pagan religion had very big festivals, remember, on Easter and Christmas. Christian religion came along and had very big festivals, at Easter and Christmas. Jesus died on one and was born on the other...

An eventful day.

Posted on March 20, 2008
I got a tattoo. Isn't she pretty? In three weeks I go in to get the shading done - this is just the outline. This is my left side. Please ignore the stretch marks. And Curt finished the rest of the tile. It looks so good.

The apple of my eye

Posted on March 18, 2008
My power cord died in Corporate Finance with a pop and a burning smell.  It had been acting a bit funky lately, so I can't say I was terribly surprised...Apple is sending me a new one.  Hooray for service plans.

Home improvement

The bathroom we bought with the house (note hideous Harvest Gold tile):The crazy purple paint we added:The kickass new tile that has almost led us to toss matches into the house and run off:And the top of Curt's messy hair. I am amazed at how much lighter it looks in the bathroom without the dark grout...

Ugh

Posted on March 11, 2008
I am in 3L hell. I have a ton of work to do and a raging case of spring fever and senioritis. Also, I keep losing at online scrabble. Woe is me.Two of my sister's friends have been admitted to law school and are planning to start this fall. They insist that law school will be different for them, and besides they don't know what else to do with their lives so they might as well go...

Weather woes

Posted on March 07, 2008
Yesterday, it was over 40 degrees all afternoon. This morning, it was -2 when I drove to work.  And there was a teeny tiny bit of snow, which renders everyone unable to drive.I hate the midwest sometimes.

The colossus of Kiwi

For Gretchen - this is what 4 lbs of kiwis look like:And a small jar of peanut butter for comparison. See? Not like, a million kiwis.Dinner from one day last week - black japonica rice, some spinach, sauteed tofu, and a poached egg. Drizzled with some sriracha and sesame oil...

Super duper

Posted on February 26, 2008
So yesterday morning, it rained.  Then the temperature dropped, and it snowed/sleeted.  Then the temperature dropped even more, and everything froze solid underneath a layer of snow.It took me 45 minutes to drive 10 miles this morning - there were accidents everywhere, and I got stuck on a hill (Parker Street) and had to back onto the cross street (50th Street)...

Oscar night

Posted on February 24, 2008
This year, I am having the odd experience of watching the Oscars without having seen a single movie (in a theater) during 2007. How is that even possible?I think I need some greasy popcorn, stat. Maybe that will help remedy this situation.

Bad blogger

I suck at updating. Sigh. Not much of note is happening though.I am still unemployed. Meeting with the dean of the law school on Tuesday to discuss clerkships - I am considering applying for clerkships with the bankruptcy judges that sit within 175 miles of here, so I need to see if any of them are hiring...

Caucus!

Posted on February 09, 2008
The first ever Nebraska Democratic caucus was held this morning. They had 15 sites in our county, the population of which is nearly 500,000. No one expected the kind of turnout that actually happened... Needless to say, it was a clusterfuck. The middle school auditorium where they thought we were going to caucus...

Plague

Posted on January 30, 2008
I have the plague! Boo on my sister for bringing terms home from her stupid undergraduate classes.I haven?t been to the gym since Saturday ? though I did go for a walk on Monday when the temperature was reasonable. We are back to normal (unreasonable) temperatures now...

For the love of god

Posted on January 29, 2008
Yesterday?  High of almost 50 degrees.  I took Kira for a long walk in the neighborhood, and I was wearing only yoga pants and a long-sleeved tee shirt.Today?  High of 21 degrees.  Snowing.  Brutal blowing winds that make it feel like your face is going to be ripped off...

Note to self.

Running the day after drinking kind of a lot of wine and only getting 6 hours of sleep will result in more-dismal-than-usual mile time.Oy. More water needed.

Why, Bravo? Why?

Posted on January 26, 2008
Why is there no new Project Runway this week? The first Wednesday I don't have class until 9:30 this semester? Bravo loves to toy with my emotions, it seems.Curt's cousin's wife has leukemia. If she loses her hair, we will shave our heads and wear fabulous scarves...

A test of wills

Posted on January 22, 2008
Tomorrow might be the day I finally drop out of law school. If I had this day 1L year, I would have for sure. Here is my schedule for tomorrow:8:30 to 11:30: Courthouse. Need to finish memo that I'm writing for the judge (Eeeep! I have to turn something in! To a JUDGE! Holy shit!)...

Book learnin'

Posted on January 17, 2008
My externship assignment is awesome. The judge is very approachable and willing to answer all of my questions, and the staff in the clerk of the court's office has been really helpful in getting me logins and teaching me how to use the computer system at the courthouse...

Holy hell

Posted on January 13, 2008
My schedule this semester is really, really strange. I have class from 12:45 to 7:30 on Mondays, 3:45 to 5:45 on Tuesdays, and 12:45 to 3:35 on Wednesdays. Plus a compressed class that is over by January 23, but which involves classes at truly awful times like 6 pm to 9:30 pm on Friday and Wednesday nights, plust two sessions that go from 9 am to 4 pm on Saturday...

Resolution revolution

Posted on January 06, 2008
In the spirit of the new year, I made some resolutions. One in particular...I'm going to run a 10K by my 29th birthday on July 21st, 2008. Eeep!First, 5k by the end of March. I think my sister and I are going to try and find a St. Patrick's day race...

Why my dogs hate me

Posted on January 03, 2008
I can hear them rolling their eyes at me.I swear, I wouldn't do it if they weren't so cute. Also, the christmas stuff (including dog sweaters) is all 50% off at Old Navy.

Good/Bad

Posted on December 27, 2007
+We got Guitar Hero III for christmas!-I suck at Guitar Hero, and because I am a freaky perfectionist it is stressing me out.-It took me four tries to beat a Foghat song on Easy. -I hate Foghat.-I spent a small fortune at Costco today.+We now have four bottles of champagne! Wheeeeeeeee!-I seem to be getting a cold...

Forget stun. Set to kill.

Posted on December 26, 2007
I am going to kill Adam. He is the most inconsiderate person I have ever had the misfortune to have staying in my home. Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. At least they have to leave eventually...I feel I should say something positive. About anything, really. Um...

Grinch

Bah humbug. I hate christmas.(This is not a cheerful, have a great day everyone post. In case you couldn't tell. You have been warned.)My brother is an asshole. He doesn't listen to anyone, and he talks too much, and he refuses to believe he could possibly learn anything from anyone...

Worst roll ever

Posted on December 18, 2007
Last night we went to this place for dinner, with one of my classmates. Most of the food was awesome - huge variety of rolls, good fish, etc. Good martinis too.Anyway, so they have this roll. It is called the Buddha Roll and is described as shrimp tempura, eel, cilantro, spicy sauce, and fresh mango...

Sipping on Gin & Juice

Posted on December 15, 2007
Laid back, with my mind on my money and my money on my mind...My estate & gift tax final yesterday was GOD AWFUL. Seriously. I have never taken such an exam. The curve on that one is going to be massive, because our whole class was shell-shocked when we left...

Cuteness, finals edition

Posted on December 09, 2007
I have nothing useful or funny to say. My head is full of UCC because of studying for Negotiable Instruments.Nettie hates the cold and ice. She also hates us, because we make her wear a tiny sweater when she goes outside. This is partly to keep her warm and partly because it makes us laugh...

Alive

Posted on December 05, 2007
Who shoots up a mall? Crazy fucking people.I am alive. Most of my classmates are accounted for - it's finals, so it's hard to reach people...This is nuts.

Surrender

Posted on December 03, 2007
I have further evidence that the gym is a horrible, awful place. It caused me to get in a minor car accident yesterday, scaring the bejesus out of a 16 year old wearing purple stirrup pants and breaking the headlights out of Curt's car. Clearly it is the gym's fault this happened, since if I hadn't gone to the gym I would never have been on that road in the first place...

Ms. 30-Minute-Meals just used the phrase "popcorn facial." Clearly, I am a 12-year-old boy inside this 28-year-old woman's body.

Not ready at all!

Posted on November 26, 2007
Where did this semester go? I swear, it's got to be September still. Except that it snowed last week, which would possibly make for the most awful September ever...Despite my last (exceedingly grumpy) post, things are going fine. I am pretty sure that I will end up with a job doing something after graduation, despite having crap grades and not being on law review and whatever else I am not doing...

Predictions

Posted on November 20, 2007
I suppose I can just be That Bitter Person Giving The Dire Warnings. Here is what I say to you, oh 1L who googles my blog with phrases like "bottom of law school class":75% of your class will not be in the top 25% of your class. There is a good chance that despite all of your ambitions and desires, you will end up just like me - hanging tight with the other three-quarters of your class...

Well no one told me about her

Well no one told me about herThe way she liesWell no one told me about herHow many people criedWell no one told me about herThe way she liesWatching Kill Bill, vol. 2 tonight, I realized that I must download this song and listen to it on repeat for half an hour at the gym tomorrow...

I shaved my head! Not really. But I did cut my hair pretty dramatically. Before:After:

Job stuff

Posted on November 12, 2007
So. April and Emily got job offers today. Jen had one in August. Liz got one October 14. J got one in March of last year. C got one last weekend. Other J got one on November first.I think I am the queen of the first-runner-up. The "always the bridesmaid never the bride" of law school - I can get interviews, but I cannot get a fucking job...

I have a new love

Posted on November 09, 2007
It's name is Cuba L1nda and it has the most awesome Cuban sandwich I have ever tasted. Praise jeebus, I'm saved. However, I am not doing my Negotiable Instruments assignment for Monday. Maybe I will take a nap and dream of pulled-pork-and-ham goodness.

Burdens of proof

Posted on November 09, 2007
My doctor charged me for two co-pays yesterday. One of them, from a visit in October, I know I paid with my debit card, so that's fine. However, I am 100% certain I paid the one in August in cash. (Why it is just now being charged to my account is beyond me, but their shoddy bookkeeping is not my problem)...
