"Pipe wrench fight"
Posted on October 17, 2008Have you ever wished that music videos sang what was actually happening? Follow the link to Aha's "Take on Me," with alternate lyrics. If you love the 1980's or awesomeness in general, you don't want to miss this one.Take on Me.This made my day.
Ethics
Posted on October 16, 2008Apparantly it IS ok to sleep with your client, so long as you were sleeping with her/him before she/he became your client.THIS is why I am taking Professional Responsibility.I never would have guessed.
We really should have had this conversation pre-Enquist
Posted on October 15, 2008Classmate and I applied for the same job, and haven't heard anything yet . . . .Classmate: There should be a support group for people like us who busted our butts in law school but are hanging onto our last hopes for jobs. I would make an equal protection argument for myself, but would likely fail as I doubt I could get much better than rational basis review as there is no way "persons with [physical characteristic]" is a protected class...
Crash
Posted on October 14, 2008Long story, but I lost the contents of my laptop. I back up pretty regularly, but not regularly enough to save an important document that I have spent a lot of time on.It's the time that bothers me the most -- time on weekends, time in the evening, time away from my family -- lost.
How do you like them apples?
Posted on October 14, 2008Apple picking results in apples in the fridge. Apples are delicious, crisp, and yummy and remind me of the beautiful autumn weather that we no longer have. And I'm gonna make another apple pie this week. Mmmmm ... apple pie.So much better to think about than the amount of stuff I have to do.
MILP #67: Not at all like Jaws IV
Posted on October 12, 2008Welcome to the Weekly MILP (Moms In the Legal Profession) Roundup. It is hosted on a rotating basis between PT-LawMom, A New Duck, and A Little Fish in Law School blogs. We originally rounded up just the moms in law school, but then discovered that those women eventually graduate...

Awesome or awful?
Posted on October 10, 2008Needing some knee-jerk opinions here: awesome or awful?1. Clownfish learned to play flip cup and 'juice' pong when I had the law journal over for a meet and greet with the new candidates. These are college drinking games.2. The new television show Fringe...
Charlie Brown II: still deluded

Oink
Posted on October 03, 2008Any House member who votes in favor of the same damn bill they voted against simply because the Senate added favorable pork is a sell out and a weasel. If you can't pass a clean(er) bill, don't pass the bill.
Mocking trial
Posted on October 02, 2008I watched some of the final round of the same trial I did the prelims for. The students were amazing. Ah-mazing. Can't commend them highly enough... even the witnesses. But there were a couple of moments where I was thinking "ooo she should have objected to that" or "don't back down, you've won this objection" or "that's not how you refresh recollection--he's not supposed to testify off the document...
Unlovable
Posted on October 01, 2008I'm not really as down as that post title would suggest. But I had a lot of interviews and a lot of rejection last year. And some of it can be attributed to factors other than me, but I do believe some of it was something about me. Something that said 'don't hire her...

More nonsense about Wall Street
Posted on September 25, 2008The point is, ladies and gentleman, that greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right, greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind...
Yes he was! Yes he was!
Posted on September 24, 2008I am working harder for one of my classes than I have had to work in a class in a while, at least this early in the semester. This is mostly a good thing, but my head hurts after class. My head hasn't hurt after class since first semester Crim.I am looking for a CLE on bankruptcy because I think it would be good to know, but couldn't take the official class (didn't have the pre-requisites...
Slider
Posted on September 23, 2008Why does every chain restaurant now serve sliders? You know, those mini-hamburgers I think first made popular by White Castle? Burger King has them. TGI Friday's has them. Ruby Tuesday's has them. An east coast chain my child loves just came out with them...

May you live in interesting times
Posted on September 19, 2008I won't pretend to know what's going on on Wall Street or with the Fed these days. I am probably about as knowledgeable as the average newspaper reader--law school certainly hasn't taught me under what legal authority all of these bail outs are being accomplished...

Posted on September 18, 2008Me: Do you want milk?CF: No I had some already. It was not too heavy.Me: *looking in the fridge* That's a full gallon we just opened yesterday. You didn't lift and pour that, did you?CF: I put one hand on the bottom and one hand on the handle and I didn't spill any...
I rock at networking
Posted on September 16, 2008I ran into a woman conducting OCI who OCI'd me last year. One of the only places I had no call back. She and I had spoken since at networking events, and she's always been nice. Just not remotely interested in hiring me. She recognized me right away:Her: Hey, Butterflyfish, did you find a job last summer?Me: I did! I ended up at [Summer Firm], which is just slightly smaller than your firm, and I really liked it...
Mike nails it. Maybe he was being tongue in cheek about the "People You May Know" stuff, but these thoughts go through my head all the time.
Mock trial intramurals!
Posted on September 14, 2008First, let me say it was awesome -- I had so much fun.But I was terrible -- and don't comment saying it couldn't have been that bad. It was -- I let the prosecution throw me with their opening and got a little (read: a lot) combative in my opening, instead of the measured reasoned story I had rehearsed...
