Philadelphia, PA: (May-26-08) The family of Amy Fledderman brought a medical malpractice lawsuit against Dr. Richard Glunk, after the teenager ended up dead following a cosmetic procedure. Amy Fledderman approached Dr. Glunk at his plastic surgery office in King of Prussia for liposuction on her legs, stomach and under her chin liposuction under her chin. Records reveal that following witness testimonies, jurors concluded that Glunk's ambulatory surgical center was not licensed by the state for this kind of liposuction procedure and that, during the surgery; Glunk hit a blood vessel, and then waited for two-and-a-half hours to call for an ambulance. Following that, Fledderman died of a fat embolism two days after surgery, a condition that experts say is a common risk of liposuction. The May 2001 fatality and its resulting lawsuit was resolved after a jury announced a verdict that awarded over $20 million in damages to Fledderman’s family resolving the lawsuit.Dr. Richard Glunk in the News
