Butterflyfish, JD...almost
Posted on May 11, 2009Officially, I am not a JD for another month, when grades come in and we receive our diplomas. I'm really more of a law school student who does not have to go to class anymore and who has already walked to Pomp and Circumstance. But the weather was lovely, and I had the best Mother's Day ever with my family and friends...
Not with a bang but with more of a slow march toward the inevitible punctuated by occasional bouts of stressful panic
Posted on May 08, 2009Otherwise known as: I'm am done with law school . . . some time today . . . right after I go to "Muffins with Mommy" at Clownfish's pre-school in celebration of Mother's Day which could totally have waited until Monday and when I finish some public interest organization things I have to wrap up and turn in my exam and go to the end of year barbecue with Clownfish and OMG PANIC I hope I didn't screw up the S-Corp question...

What you're missing
Posted on May 05, 2009Highlights from my Twitter feed:Scene: the law review office, after midnight, the sound of one woman typing...then suddenly,*loud belch* Scuse me. Gotta lay off the Pepsiabout 17 hours ago from web Dear skin: Breakouts & wrinkles should not happen together...
I have about six days of work left to do. Unfortunately I have less than four days to do it.
Posted on May 04, 2009Send caffeine and snacks.
Plus with pressure and time, you get a diamond
Posted on May 04, 2009I try really hard to tell Clownfish the truth about things when he asks.* Case in point:CF: Mommy look at that dog! What is that near his butt?Me: That is his penis. Like you have a penis.CF: Oh... no that's his penis in front. What is that in the back?Me: Those are his testicles...
MILP #96: Don't Stop Believing
Posted on May 03, 2009The Weekly MILP (Moms In the Legal Profession) Roundup is hosted on a rotating basis between PT-LawMom, A New Duck, and A Little Fish in Law School blogs. We originally rounded up just the moms in law school, but then discovered that those women eventually graduate...
One down. Three to go. Bloody hell.
Posted on May 01, 2009Environmental Law went ok I guess. No way to know until the grades come out. Definitely not a B- or worse, definitely not the high A. It was a massive issue spotter, which is my favorite kind of exam,* but I didn't feel on my game. Not the best analysis, I didn't feel as if I was using cases well, and I was having difficulty citing authority for most of the propositions other than "the statute defines x as...
Beginning to smell like exam time
Posted on April 30, 2009Enviro Law exam prep away messages:NEPA: we grab you by the procedural balls and squeeze because we have no substantive balls.I have the short term memory of a Delhi sands flower-loving fly.RCRA is a whole lotta shit.Overheard in law school:Female: God, law school has made you sooo nitpicky...

Happy Blogiversary to me
Posted on April 27, 2009My first post. April 27, 2006.Three years. My husband does not understand this at all. He never has. I know why I started. But most of those reasons are gone. So why do I keep going? I don't understand that either I guess. I'm not too self reflective about the whys of blogging...
Tee-ball season!!
Posted on April 25, 2009Today is the first day of tee-ball! Of course I have to leave practice early to make it to my business tax review, but I am kind of excited to see Clownfish's new team. Its and 3 and 4 year old league, and last year, as a 3-year-old, he was occasionally intimidated by the bigger, faster kids...

Lies my parents told me
Posted on April 23, 2009This started as a comment at CM's place, but it became a little long, so I decided to post it here instead. My dad has a birthmark on his arm. He convinced us (for years) that it was a pirate tattoo and that he met my mom on a pirate ship.My mom had a picture of her dad (my granddad) next to of those cardboard celebrity cut outs (Ronald Reagan as it happens) -- she sent me to school with it...
Every semester around this time...
Posted on April 21, 2009. . . I begin to freak out about one exam. This semester, it is Corp & Partnership Tax. Oh my holy word am I screwed. I passed the level of my own competance in week three. If anyone knows anything about business tax other than that appreciated assets can't be taken out of a c-corp without incurring tax per 311b, then I would sincerely appreciate (haha) help...
MILP #94
Posted on April 20, 2009PtLawmom shamelessly rips off pop culture in this week's Round-Up. I'm... so proud. (*tear*)
Can you find it on the Google?
Posted on April 19, 2009I went to visit my folks this weekend and my mom specifically requested I bring my laptop so I could find something for my Dad. That part didn't work out -- turns out that the on-line records for "unclaimed funds" don't go back to 1998. Yeah, I probably could have told her that had she asked over the phone...

Rings
Posted on April 15, 2009Clownfish and I were reading one of his planet books. He is pretty excited about planets and we're thinking of getting him an inexpensive telescope for his birthday if he's still excited by the end of August. He's got a cardboard planet mobile hanging from his bedroom ceiling and glow-in-the-dark stars stuck to his bed...
Trial redux
Posted on April 10, 2009Sooo much better than when I hilariously and disastrously went out for mock trial. I have learned a lot since then. We lost, but we didn't have the facts or law on our side. We came close on the breach of k issue, but even winning would only have netted us basically nominal damages...

Trial
Posted on April 09, 2009Opening statement. Check. Direct exam. Check.Know how to introduce evidence. Check.Cross exam. Check.I have this great pinstripe suit I have never worn. I bought it on sale over a year ago figuring I would lose enough weight to fit into it. I finally have...
Trial practice
Posted on April 06, 2009My trial is this Thursday. Worked on the opening today. Facts favor the defense. I'm plaintiff. Defense's main witness, whom we must portray as a sleaze, is named Richard. It would probably be totally inappropriate to refer to him as "Dick" throughout the entire opening, right?Thought so.
Stolen Lines #3
Posted on April 06, 2009There's something that I've been thinking about and wondering about and I'm very curious: am I the only one who knows?I never see anyone in there, even at exam time when the library is pretty crowded. It is tucked away in a corner of the basement between rows and stacks...
Funny thing is, he's never even watched the cartoon
Posted on April 04, 2009Bullshark is out of town for the weekend, so its just me and the little guy. We were wrestling on the sofa last night and I flipped him upside down. He does not particularly like it when I get the best of him to he very purposefully got up and very deliberately stomped out of the room...
Under construction
Posted on April 04, 2009Update:Getting a three column format that is compatible with blogger widgets is a b*tch... especially when you don't know how to code or edit images and you're cobbling it together from some do it yourself stuff.Umm, so yeah, its gonna be a mess here for a while...
Trial practice
Posted on April 02, 2009My trial is one week away. Opening, direct of one witness and cross of one witness. My partner is doing the closing and the rest. I should probably get on that.Tonight I am expert witnessing for another trial.I'm totally believable as a mechanical engineer, right? Because I am so mechanically inclined...
A little latex never hurt anyone
Posted on March 30, 2009. . . unless you're allergic.*Last week I worked at my first Habitat for Humanity house. I say first because I'd like to do it again. But I am not sure I'll end up as lucky as I did this time.I am not what one would call 'marginally competent' with hand tools...
