The Harbour

ADVERTISEMENTS
After much thought, I have decided that as exciting as some of the stuff that I'm working on is, I'm not going to talk about anything work related. I really like this job and don't want to even come close to breaking any confidentiality agreements. I will comment that I am feeling much more comfortable with things now and that while I still really don't know very much, I generally have a better idea of where to find the answers to things.

Despite this silence, I feel it would be alright to mention one of the perks of my job. I get to work in a very cool building right on Halifax Harbour. My office doesn't directly face the habour, but it's still a pretty neat view.

What's cool is that I look onto Canada's East Coast Navy Base so I get to see lots of the ships. Right now there are two Submarines out of water on jacks having maintenance work done.

The other perk is that south of my work is Halifax's touristy, but really nice, Harbourfront. This is great because on my lunchs or on days when it's my office's turn to do the Prothonotary runs, I get paid to walk along the waterfront. For example, yesterday at lunch we headed down and checked out an Argentinian Tall Ship that is visiting Halifax.

So this was how I spent my lunch.

Working by the Harbour does have it's downsides (although not many). Halifax is connected to Dartmouth by two bridges. These bridges can get pretty busy at the best of times and create a bottle neck of traffic. The other night there was an accident on MacDonald Bridge. The back up extended along the bridge down a few different streets and all the way into my office's parking garage. I was parked on the 3rd level and at that time, traffic was still stop and go. Someone had to let me in just so I could back out of my parking spot! It's very rare for a build up like that to occur and although it was a little frustrating, everybody was calm and I still made it home quicker than if I lived and worked in Toronto.
