Mattel and Fisher-Price Toy Recall

Magnets and Lead Paint manufactured in China Create Poisoning and Health Hazard

Mattel and it’s Fisher-Price division, in cooperation with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, voluntarily recalled toys manufactured in China on account of harmful lead content and hazards associated with small magnets.

The magnets inside many doll and accessory products can fall out-- undetected to parents and caregivers. These magnets can be swallowed or aspirated by young children or placed by a child in their nose or ears. When more than one magnet is swallowed, the magnets can attract to each other and cause intestinal perforation, infection or blockage, which can be fatal. Aspiration to the lungs requires immediate surgery. Magnets placed in the nose or ears can cause swelling and be difficult to remove.

A limited number of the "Sarge" Die Cast toys from the Pixar Cars movie assortments (an approximately three inches in length army green colored car featuring a white star on the hood), sold individually and in assortment packs in retail stores nationwide from May 2007 to August 2007, have surface paint on affected products contain lead in excess of permissible levels and could lead to lead poisoning.

Class action law suits will likely follow this recall of defective products manufactured in China.

The recalled toys manufactured in China include several Fisher-Price products, multiple Polly Pocket™ Play Sets, four Batman™ Magna Play Sets (4 products), a Barbie® and Tanner™ Accessory (1 product), multiple Doggie Daycare™ Play Sets (multiple products), Shonen Jump's One Piece™ (1 product), and two CARS Sarge Character. Specifically, the recalled products are:
