Phosphocol P 32 Linked to Risk Of Leukemia In Children
Off-Label Use of the Drug for Intra-articular Injections the Cause
The Food and Drug Administration has issued a Safety Alert regarding the unapproved use of Phosphocol P 32 (Chromic Phosphate P 32 Suspension) in children.Two children with hemophilia, aged 9 and 14, who were treated with the drug developed acute lymphocytic leukemia with within one year following intra-articular injections. Phosphocol P 32 is not approved for use for intra-articular injection, or treating bleeding between the joints that is caused by hemophilia. The product labeling has been revised to warn health care professionals of this risk.
