Home Hospice of North Texas reaches $500,000 settlement in Medicare fraud lawsuit.
Dallas, TX: (May-28-08) A federal lawsuit was brought against S-Hospice Group Inc., doing business as Home Hospice of North Texas, Andrew P. Milligan and Neil F. Livingston, its principal owners, alleging that the facility wrongly received payment for ineligible patients. The suit claimed that Home Hospice, Milligan and Livingston violated the False Claims Act by submitting improper claims for payment to the federal Medicare program. It was stated that the incidents took place between Jan. 1, 1998, and Dec. 31, 2002, for hospice-related items and services.In a recent announcement, the Decatur-based company agreed to a settlement, in which it will pay $500,000 to resolve allegations. Federal officials said that the company and its owners will end up paying a significant reduction of the settlement amount because of financial difficulties. The defendants stated that though they agreed to settle, they did not admit to any wrongdoing or accept any liability in the case.
