USSearch.com to pay $250,000 settlement in information lawsuit.

New York, NY: (May-20-08) New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo's office brought charges against the online information company USSearch.com, alleging that it sold credit bureau data of US consumers. The suit, filed after a federal investigation, revealed that the company, which normally provides public information like court records, also illegally obtained private consumer credit information at least 2,385 times. Sources familiar with the suit stated that the incidents all preceded the sale of US Search by First Advantage Corp. to Cricket Operating Co. LLC in October 2007.As part of a settlement reached, USSearch.com agreed to cease selling the private credit bureau data, as well as agreed to a $250,000 payout to resolve allegations.
