Why Moving is Such a Mess...

Posted on August 09, 2009
I?m sure you?re asking, ?Hey Ana, if you?re all non-materialistic and never buy things then why do you keep whining about the move??Good question.Despite my desire to be free of encumbering objects, I do have this little disease. It?s called sentimentality...

Privacy...

People write blogs for various reasons. Some people want to work on their writing skills. Others want to document the growth of their children for various relatives. Some have a message they are trying to get across. And some of us just use them as a place to file our thoughts...

Money-Money-Money?

Posted on August 06, 2009
Sunday I met a friend of mine from undergrad for a beer. As I walked up, the friend, who?d been drinking for most of the afternoon, yelled, ?You bought that purse at TARGET!!!??I take it you read the blog?? I asked as I sat down, and she nodded in agreement...

Think Like a Man, Act Like a Lady?

Posted on August 06, 2009
No, search engine-users, you are not going to find that book here. This is not Oprah?s Book club. In fact, if you notice, this blog has the opposite name. I once picked up a ?working woman?s? magazine in a waiting room and read an article on the best advice that female executives had ever received from their fathers...

Childhood was Awesome in Some Ways...

Posted on August 04, 2009
I've written about it before (too lazy to find the link now), but my favorite children's story has been, is now, and probably always will be The Point by Nilsson. Here's a clip:Yeah, it's awesome...and my parents wonder how I turned out this way. I mean, between this and all the Peter, Paul, and Mary, I never really had a chance...

Freckles...

Posted on August 04, 2009
I?m always startled when I hear a model, or any person for that matter, speak with disdain about their freckles. I?ve always found freckles very attractive. Interesting, unique, like a personal road map of one?s life. You could argue that my love of freckles is just the preservation or the defense of my own ego, the reason better exemplified by the picture below rather than any written

I'm So Screwed...

Posted on August 03, 2009
A few weeks ago when the CDP and I were having problems, I confided my troubles to the BFF, Wine-Time-Girl.?Well,? she said, ?You know that me and my boyfriend are very different, but I think what makes it work is that we respect each other?s differences...

Shopping While Intoxicated?

Posted on August 01, 2009
Ok, maybe I should have titled this shopping therapy, but the alcohol reference sounded so much more scandalous.Anyhoo, after brunch today, I headed over to Target and hit the jackpot. Target is a regular experience for me, but some days my eye seems to spot cheap finds better than others...

Yay for Small Favors...

Posted on July 31, 2009
Guess what came in the mail today? My security deposit from my old place.Guess how much of it I got back? All of it, plus the pet deposit. Now, while I think that I *should* have gotten it all back, you never know with the old landlord, and I'm just glad that I don't have to go fight over it...

What's it Worth to You?

Posted on July 31, 2009
Earlier this week, as I was sitting at a table in Senior Counsel?s office, furiously taking notes during a conference call (or maybe just furiously doodling pictures that made no sense) she turned to me and said, ?Why don?t you take Thursday and Friday off???Why?? I asked then continued, ?I can?t...

What's That?

Posted on July 30, 2009
The house is still a mess. Not everything is completely unpacked. Plenty of things are without a home, and absolutely nothing has been hung on a wall. But lo and behold, today I cleared some space - and that my friends is a semi-clean desk (which is really my grandmother's old dinette table that sat off her galley kitchen)...

Dear Paris BoyFriend...

Posted on July 28, 2009
Dear PBF,Last night as you were leaving your comment on this blog, I was sitting outside on my deck smoking a cigarette. At the same time, the phone in my bedroom was ringing. When I checked my voicemail I learned that it was none other than Conrad...

GOOD LUCK!

Posted on July 28, 2009
Hey Bar Exam Takers,I know a few of you are already sitting in your seats, but good luck today...and tomorrow...and the day after if you're in one of those hellish three day bar exam places (like, ya know, Texas). You'll be fine. If you don't know something, make it up and move on...

Welcome Home...

Posted on July 22, 2009
I?m planning to write a few pieces on the move including some of the reasons why a move is such an upheaval for me from a purely logistical standpoint, but here?s a small piece about a singular item.Even though I?d gone through all of my belongings in the last year, tossing and ditching everything I thought was without meaning, I still wanted to get rid of more stuff before the move...

From my tiny little brain...

Posted on July 21, 2009
Writing from home is difficult right now. I?ve got my desk (aka my maternal grandmother?s old kitchen table) set up in the extra room, but the extra room is currently being used as a depository for everything without a home?and there?s a lot of stuff yet unsettled...

I'm Still Here!

Posted on July 20, 2009
Forgive me, dear readers. I moved last Monday, so for the last two weeks I've been furiously packing and unpacking. New posts coming soon!

Soliciting Your Random Advice?

Posted on July 20, 2009
In light of the last post, I?d like to ask you a question. When I went through the whole rigmarole with CDP, I did speak with friends who advised me that I should end things. Their take was, ?If you?re having problems now, it will only get worse.?And I think that has normally been my outlook, but what caused me to reconsider was the fact that this type of thing always occurs with me at the 10-

The Two-And-A-Half Month Itch?

Posted on July 20, 2009
I?m always amazed when I realize that one of my friends has been dating another person for a year. It?s because I rarely get past the three month point in my relationships. For the first few weeks everything?s rosy. They?re into you; you?re into them...

My Readers Are Awesome!

Posted on July 20, 2009
Ask and you shall receive!Thank you so much to the commenter who pointed out these Doc Martens.I now have my very own 'big-kid' Christopher Robins, and I love them!

Happy 4th!

Posted on July 04, 2009
Happy Independence Day, dear readers! To get you in the spirit, here are some pics that my dad sent me today. They're of my mother, circa 1971, newly expecting her first child and taking in the sights of New York City.I love how her hair is long and somewhat unruly in this picture...

No really; I'm an altruist...

Posted on July 03, 2009
Whenever I talk about work (and believe me, I speak of it vaguely as I should) CDP always turns to me and says, ?You should really see ?such-and-such? movie. It deals with the same kind of thing.?I just tried to remember the name of the movie, but I can only recall that George Clooney is in it...

Nostalgia and Comfortable Shoes...

Posted on July 02, 2009
Despite our gender differences my brother and I wore the same kind of shoes until the age of five. They looked like this:My mom called them our Christopher Robin shoes and I had pairs in navy and red while my brother had navy and white. (I?d never seen them in brown before I stole this picture off the interwebs...

Hey Gen-Xers!

Posted on July 01, 2009
For those of you who are interested in revisiting your early post-college years, an apartment from the building used in Reality Bites is up for lease. (Click the "up for lease" to see it.) Window units and no designated parking, but hey, 850 square feet isn't bad for that price and a little piece of history...

Life's lessons or the Beauty of Free Will...

Posted on June 29, 2009
I knew that she was dying. We all knew that; yet we didn?t speak of it. We went on as if little had changed. As far as anyone else knew, I was doing my internship in San Antonio. I was merely in the house by happenstance. My attendance at the school in Austin had been highly calculated...

I wonder how prudent it is to write

Posted on June 29, 2009
I wonder how prudent it is to write about family. I didn?t grow up in an environment where we discussed these types of things much even amongst ourselves. A lot of it truly is water under the bridge. When I wrote the post about the middle sister stuff, I just typed it up and hit publish...

Saved by the bell...

Posted on June 29, 2009
?of the phone that is. I?ve been sitting here with all these thoughts swirling through my mind. There?s so much I want to write about and so little at the same time. Do I write a cute story about the CDP? My visit with therapist today in what she called one of our most intimate sessions? Another story about the formation of Ana? Gudnuff in the comments was right...

All that and classy, too!

Because I?m environmentally responsible, I resell my old books online when I?m done with them.Because I?m environmentally responsible, I package all of my used books in used brown bags.Because I?m environmentally responsible, I typically use canvas bags when I grocery shop...

Birth Orders, Wine, and Good Guys...

Posted on June 28, 2009
For those of you who are unaware, I am the middle sister of my sibling brood. A few months ago, my younger sister tried to negate this claim, stating that given our difference in years, I was simply the younger sister to my older brother while she was an "only child...

How a Computer Sees you as Seeing Yourself...

If you click on myAmazon while logged in, it gives you a listing of the different categories that it thinks applies to you based on what you?ve viewed and purchased. At first I thought the larger fonts meant items you would more likely be interested in...

Compartmentalizing has never been my thing...

Posted on June 26, 2009
This whole unexpected move thing has sent me into a tizzy. Random bills are piling up in various areas of my apartment and a few are stashed in my purse. The house feels like an obstacle course because even though I?ve probably packed less than a quarter of my things, the few boxes I do have are taking up all my extra floor space...
