Wrongful Arrest Lawsuit

FBI to pay undisclosed settlement in Waddling Bandit lawsuit.

Wrongful Arrest

Tillamook, OR: (May-09-08) Bob Christie of Tillamook, a retired high school math teacher, brought a lawsuit against the Federal Bureau of Investigations, alleging that he was wrongly accused of being the "Waddling Bandit." The suit claimed that Christie was arrested in October 2007, after the FBI mistook him for a serial bank robber. Records of the incident show that Christie was jailed and then held under house arrest. Christie then sued alleging wrongful arrest.

In a settlement agreement recently reached by both sides, the FBI has agreed to a cash settlement with the 71-year-old Christie, that will help pay for his financial hardship and legal fees. Christie said that despite the agreement and the cash payout, the FBI did not offer him an apology. [KMTR NEWS: FBI TO SETTLE WITH FORMER ROBBERY SUSPECT IN OREGON]
