Developers pay $175,000 settlement for failing to comply with the Fair Housing Act.
Racist Voicemail
Stamford, CT: (Jan-23-08) The family of Candace Owens, a former Stamford High student, brought a lawsuit against the Board of Education, alleging that the city failed to protect her rights when students who left her threatening and racist voicemail messages were allowed to attend school with her. The suit stated that the city failed to act in part because one of the callers was the son of Stamford Mayor Dannel Malloy. Sources close to the case stated that the two sides agreed to resolve the dispute and enter into a settlement. Under the deal, the Board of Education agreed to pay the family of Candace Owens, now an 18-year-old Stamford High graduate $37,500, ending litigation. City officials stated that the school board paid the Owens family out of a legal fund. [STAMFORD ADVOCATE: STUDENT DISCRIMINATION]Legal Help
