Steven Levy is the Lexician (which rhymes with magician) - he's an expert on legal project management, and he's discussing the topic over on his blog. Give it a read - basic project management skills are something from which all lawyers can benefit.

Now that's a law I can get behind!

Using Facebook for all your Email?

Posted on December 14, 2010
There's no question that Facebook would love it if it was the one destination all of us used all day, every day. Toward that end, they recently unveiled Facebook Messages, which features texts, chat and email together in one single line of conversation. It's definitely an interesting concept, and maybe one that will catch on for those who don't need to use email for business purposes. Dennis Kennedy and I discuss the new Facebook Messages, and the state of webmail in general, in a Kennedy-Mighell Report podcast we recorded at the end of November called One Inbox to Rule Them All. Give it a listen.

New Ways to Use Dropbox

Posted on December 13, 2010
Anyone who reads this blog knows by now (and perhaps is tired of knowing) that I'm a huge fan of Dropbox - I keep all of my files there now, so I can access my work files on my home computer, and my home files on my work computer when I'm on the road. I've also started to use apps that work with Dropbox - some of them are iPad note-taking apps that automatically deposit all of my notes in a Dropbox folder - a really great use of the project. Now I'm intrigued by services that make it dead simple for other people to upload files to my Dropbox folder without using email - or at least, without having to keep the files in email. The first service is AirDropper, which allows you to send a "file request" to people, who can then email files directly to your Dropbox folder...

Keeping Up with Google

Posted on December 01, 2010
Google continues to offer some pretty terrific technology tools, many of which are useful to lawyers: Gmail, Google Docs, Google Maps, and Google Translate or only a few of the great tools that lawyers can use in their practice. It can be someone daunting, however, trying to keep up with all of the new stuff that Google churns out each week - that is, until now. Google recently unveiled Google New, the one place to find everything new from Google. Just this week, you can learn about improvements to Google Earth, the ability to drag and drop files into Google Docs, and updates to Google's search tool. Bookmark this page and visit it often - Google has lots of tools that can benefit the lawyer in his or her practice. I only wish there were an RSS feed, so I don't have to go back so often!

Study for the Bar Exam on your iPhone?

Posted on December 01, 2010
As we increasingly become a nation of people looking down at their smartphones, it was inevitable that the classroom would come to the iPhone. So if you're the kind of person who learns better from your smartphone's tiny screen, give the Barbri App a look. For the low price of $295 you can access most of the course information on your phone - lectures, practice questions, mini reviews, and a game called the Barbri Challenge. My friend and iPhone guru Jeff Richardson has a complete review of this app - if you are getting ready to study for the bar, give it a look!

Learning Legal Technology in Law School

Posted on November 22, 2010
One of my big causes it that of getting lawyers to learn more about Law Practice Management - the business of running a law practice. One of many challenges facing our profession is the near complete lack of practice management education in law school. But in this week's episode of The Kennedy-Mighell Report, we take a look at a law school that's giving its students exposure to legal technology tools, and making them use it. In "Integrating Practice Management Tools in Law School," we take a look at a class being taught at Georgia State Law School, and how students are getting the chance to practice management software first-hand. We had fun recording this, because we had some great guests - give it a listen!
