It's published by D. Mark Jackson, a California lawyer representing clients in a number of litigation areas. You'll find posts here on a lot of different topics - failure and design, things to check before giving a presentation, focusing on the customer, and creativity, to name a few. The only problem - he hasn't posted in nearly 2 months - and before that, his posts were few and far between. This is a great niche blog - c'mon, Mark, let's see some more posts!

Blawg of the Day - Essential Nutrition Law Blog
Posted on January 17, 2011Have you ever heard of the "neutraceutical industry?" I hadn't, at least I cam across the Essential Nutrition Law Blog. Wikipedia defines the term "nutraceutical" as a food or food product that provides health and/or medical benefits, including the prevention and treatment of disease. The Stoel Rives Nutrition Law team works with nutrition companies making these products, and on the blog they're talking about such topics as manufacturing, nutrition claims, product liability, and trademark issues.
Send Bookmarks to your Friends the Easy Way
Posted on January 17, 2011I've always loved URL-shortening site bit.ly for its ability to not only shorten long URLs, but also to track how many people click on those shortened links. Now it offers a great service that is really useful when you need to share a bunch of links. Let's say your firm's managing partner asks for recommendations for the Partner Dinner. Or your spouse/significant other wants you to give suggestions for a hotel on your upcoming vacation. Rather than send an email with all the links in them, check out bit.ly bundles. They're collections of links you can add, remove and rearrange. You have to have a bit.ly account to do this, but once you've registered, it's pretty easy to create a bundle. Just enter the URLs of all the sites you want to include, and click Add to Bundle after each...

Legal Tech for the Medium-Sized Firm
Posted on January 03, 2011I have a lot of catching up to do with recent editions of The Kennedy-Mighell Report. Early in December we recorded a great episode called Big Answers for Mid-Sized Problems with our good friend Catherine Sanders Reach of the ABA's Legal Technology Resource Center. We talked about the LTRC's 2010 survey, that found that mid-size firms often lag behind large firms (and even solo/small firms, in some cases) in the technology that they have available for their lawyers and professional staff. Dennis, Catherine and I had a great discussion talking about the reasons for this - if you find yourself in a mid-size firm with these issues, give this podcast a listen.
Blawg of the Day - Labor Relations Today
Posted on January 03, 2011I'm a bit confused about today's blog - Labor Relations Today looks to be a nice resource - it provides analysis and commentary on developments in traditional labor law. So why is there no branding on the home page of the blog to let us know who writes it? If you dig into the About Us or Our Services pages, you'll find that the blog is published by Set Borden and Richard Hankins of McKenna Long & Aldridge - but who not make it more obvious up front? In any event, there are some good things here - posts on the National Labor Relations Act, National Labor Relations Board Administration, Decisions, and Rule-Making, unions, unfair labor practices, and more.
Blawg of the Day - Technology Law Source
Posted on December 31, 2010Here's another blog that should be publishing more, but hasn't within the past two months. Technology Law Source is "mapping the evolving legal landscape," with discussions on data breach notification, domain names, identify theft, social media, and more. It's published by Porter Wright - these big firms ought to know better - get back to posting, folks!
It's the little things that count
Posted on December 30, 2010I wanted to continue the Google love this week by posting on another fantastic feature that has finally been enabled in Gmail. It's Auto-Advance, something that you might already be using if you use Outlook to manage your email. I really like the ability to move directly to the newest email once I delete the previous email in my inbox, and for the longest time that wasn't available in Gmail. Now when I click Delete, or put a label on a message to move it out of the Inbox, the screen immediately moves to the next message. A small advance, I know, but an important one. To enable this feature, go to Settings, and then Labs, and click Enable under Auto-Advance.
Blawg of the Day - Government Contracts Legal Forum
Posted on December 30, 2010From Crowell & Moring's government contracts lawyers comes the Government Contracts Legal Forum, a blog about the world of - you guessed it, government contracts. Google Docs Charts Get More Interesting
Posted on December 29, 2010Okay, so Google Docs still can't match the power of any part of the Microsoft Office suite, but they sure keep getting closer and closer. Recently, they debuted a great new chart creation tool that makes some significant advances. You'll find annotated timelines, organizational charts, gauges, a motion chart, and many more chart types. It still doesn't have Excel's incredible functionality, but in many cases a Google Docs spreadsheet will fit the bill.
Give your Gmail security a tuneup
Posted on December 28, 2010If you're a Gmail user, you might want to to give this Gmail Security Checklist a onceover. It takes you through an assessment of security basics - on your computer, your browser, your Google account, and then your Gmail settings. And although this is designed for Gmail, many parts of this checklist apply just as well to other types of webmail.
Blawg of the Day - GlobalTort
Posted on December 28, 2010Another interesting "niche-ish" blog for you today - it's called GlobalTort, and it aims to map "the intersections among torts, science, corporate law, insurance and bankruptcy." Not all of the authors are lawyers - Kirk Hartley is with Childress Duffy Goldblatt, a litigation firm with offices in Chicago and Florida. Also blogging with him are Steve Sellick and Tim Green, consultants who work in the areas of complex quantitative analysis as well as operational, litigation, and compliance matters. You'll find recent posts on Big Tobacco, insurance for global tort claims, the litigation industry, and more.
Blawg of the Day - Oregon Patent Litigation Tracker
Posted on December 27, 2010Here's an interesting niche blog that hasn't posted in a couple of months - the Oregon Patent Litigation Tracker features news and updates from all active patent cases in the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon. You can track the cases according to the judge assigned to them, or look at such issues as Claim Construction, Patent Marking, and Statutory Subject Matter. But clearly there's been activity in cases since October 29 (the date of their last post) - c'mon, Stoel Rives, keep up the posting!
