Blawg of the Day - The Anchor Plate

Posted on November 19, 2010
"Anchor Plate" is traditionally defined as "a metal plate fastened to the exterior of a brick building with a washer or tie rod to reinforce structural support, usually decorative." The blog The Anchor Plate defines itself as "a virtual gathering place for dialogue about the nature of practicing intellectual property law, to increase knowledge and to amuse." It's published by The BrickHouse Law Group, a St. Louis-based intellectual property firm. They're talking about the typical IP law topics - but unfortunately, they haven't posted in over a month. C'mon, Anchor Plate - you've got a great site and a great idea - where's the dialogue?

Blawg of the Day - Legal Crisis Strategies

Posted on November 18, 2010
I like today's blog from big firm McDermott Will & Emery, because it's in sort of a niche area. Titled Legal Crisis Strategies, it's billed as a place "where litigation, media and lobbying intersect." It provides advice on preventing, managing, and ending a crisis while protecting a company's reputation and limiting its legal liability. Great topic! The only problem? They aren't posting much - haven't posted since the end of September. C'mon, McDermott folks - get back to work!

Blawg of the Day - The 10 Second Lawyer

Posted on November 17, 2010
Innovate LLP is an intellectual property law firm with offices in Toronto and Ottawa. Their blog, The 10 Second Lawyer, features recent posts on online dispute resolution, Google's Street View opt-out feature, legal process outsourcing, and knowledge management. I have no idea what the focus of the blog is (it's not just intellectual property), nor do I know what "The 10 Second Lawyer" means. But the posts are interesting, nonetheless.

Blawg of the Day - Judge James Kimbler's Blog

Blawg of the Day - Prison Law Blog

Not a lot of blogs about the law of being incarcerated out there, but the Prison Law Blog is one of them. It aims to note major developments in the law governing prisons and jails, as well as provide much of interest to anyone interested in the American criminal justice system. The blog is written by Sara Mayeux, a joint JD-American History Ph.D. candidate at Stanford (and she has time for a blog, too?). You'll find posts on parole reform, sexual assault in detention centers, and legislation, among others.

Blawg of the Day - SC Small Firm.com

Posted on October 29, 2010
As you can tell from the past few weeks, I've started to highlight blogs that haven't posted much of late, in hopes that I can nudge (guilt?) them into posting again. Today, I feature a blog from one of my ABA Law Practice Management Section colleagues, Courtney Kennaday, the Director of the Practice Management Assistance Program of the South Carolina Bar. SC Small Firm.com features, as you might guess, law practice management tips and advice for solos and small firms. You'll find posts on business development, law firm accounting, technology, starting a new practice, and a lot more. C'mon Courtney, more!

Blawg of the Day - Patent Practice Professional Liability Reporter

Posted on October 22, 2010
Here's another blog that hasn't posted lately - in this case, almost two months. But the picture on the home page is so nice, maybe some visits to the site will persuade the authors - in this case, the big firm of Lane Powell - to start posting again. Even better, it's on a great niche topic - the Patent Practice Professional Liability Reporter discusses intellectual property liability issues, including inequitable conduct, insurance claims, proximate cause, venue selection, and more.

Blawg of the Day - Lex Sustineo

Gmail Does Drag (and Drop)

Posted on October 18, 2010
I am really liking some of the new features offered by Gmail recently, and dragging and dropping is one of my favorites. First, Gmail unveiled the ability for users to attach documents and other files to a Gmail message simply by dragging and dropping the file from a folder to the message. Yes, that's as easy as it sounds - just click on the file in your folder (or your desktop), and drag it to the attachment area of the email - an area immediately opens up to accept the new file. And now, you can also drag and drop in the other direction - you can click on an attachment within an email and drag it to the desktop or to a folder. This is a lifesaver - it's really time-consuming to click on the Download button and then move the file to the folder of your choice...
