A blog that speaks freely about legal issues facing the media and the internet. It mainly covers issues relating to the legal regulation of the internet and the media, but at times Constitutional law issues and politics are discussed. Journalists should disclose their political affiliation

Posted on January 21, 2010
It's about time that most mainstream journalists admitted they are Democrats. That argument comes not from some rabid right-winger but from Mika Brzezinski, the co-host of "Morning Joe" and the daughter of Jimmy Carter's national security adviser...

"The Director of Downfall Speaks Out on All Those Angry YouTube Hitlers"

Posted on January 19, 2010
When the Conan-Leno debacle began, two things were certain: One, it would change the face of late night, and two, someone would apply it to the Downfall Hitler meme. When Oliver Hirschbiegel staged the famous bunker scene in his 2004 movie, with Bruno Ganz as Hitler, he wasn't expecting it to be appropriated for comedy; a dramatic recreation of Hitler's last stand is not exactly a laugh-out-loud subject...

The Masturbating Bear is dead

Posted on January 18, 2010
The Masturbating Bear is dead.As a deal nears for Conan O'Brien's exit from NBC, one thing is certain: the characters and recurring comedy bits O'Brien originated during his 16-plus years on "Late Night" and "The Tonight Show" will not follow the host when he leaves NBC...

"Telling the Boss Off"

Posted on January 18, 2010
We don?t really care what happens to Jay Leno or Conan O?Brien. We can?t stop watching because it feels so good to watch them beating the hell out of the corporate suits. There?s a reason why the feud between the late-night comedians and NBC has seized everyone?s attention, and it?s got nothing to do with the fate of either Jay Leno or Conan O?Brien (who really cares, especially under the shadow of Haiti?s tragedy?)...

"Conan/Leno madness: the 5 big unanswered legal questions"

Posted on January 16, 2010
NBC may be on the verge of more "Law & Order"...and we're not talking about what's replacing Jay Leno at 10 pm.NBC brass and Conan O'Brien reportedly have reached a detente, with Conan said to be receiving a payout and the ability to appear on another network before his contract expires, according to news reports...

"Leno and O?Brien Continue War of Words, More Coolly"

Posted on January 16, 2010
The war of words between NBC?s two late-night stars cooled a bit Friday night, but both Jay Leno and Conan O?Brien offered a few jokes about their status at NBC and in recent press reports. Mr. Leno took note of how badly he is being beaten up in some news accounts, and even struck back at one old rival who has been slamming away at him on his own show: ?Sunday night on Fox is the premiere of a new show called ?Human Target...

"Conan should have seen it coming"

Posted on January 15, 2010
