The B-list

Posted on February 12, 2009
I am feeling stressed and overwhelmed -- that kind of feeling that makes me want to retreat for a day or ten. I could just hold on -- we're going out of town as a family for a three day weekend. I could just hold on til tomorrow. But I can't hold on...

Stolen Lines #2

"Ghosts definitely live here," I say."What? No way. This building is not old enough to have ghosts," she replies."Ghosts definitely live here," I repeat with emphasis."What? You think this is a Bruce Willis move? You see dead people? Were gruesome crimes committed here and the ghosts of the victims are reaching out to you for help? What, the room is filled with crushed souls in rent garments crying out in pain?" she retorts sarcastically...

What you're missing

Posted on February 06, 2009
Recent Twitter updates... not all of them:This is the worst history of vandalism, gleeful mayhem and general recalcitrance we've seen in a nominee since Ruth Bader Ginsburg. (xkcd) yesterday from web (This was my 'get well soon' wish to RBG.)My prof just blasted My Sharona to start class...

You know what DOESN'T suck about law school?

Posted on February 05, 2009
Finding out you AmJur'd* two classes last semester. *High fives the blawgosphere*Ahh, the highs and laws of law school... which don't matter a lick the moment I graduate. And really don't matter to anyone but me right now.__________________________________* AmJur, for the unitiated, is getting the high grade in the class...

Screwing up a class or two in 2L, which drops your GPA and rank. Working your tail off to get your GPA back. Coming within a few hundredths of getting it back and feeling pretty good about that until you remain at exactly at the same lower class rank...

Groundhog Day

Posted on February 02, 2009
In honor of the Groundhog Day movie in which Bill Murray lives the day over and over until he gets it right, I am posting the same thing I did around last year's groundhog day.Steve Burns from Blues Clues + Flaming Lips' Steve Drozd + Jack's Big Music Show = a pretty good kid rock anthem, Hog the Ground...

Law prom recap

Posted on February 01, 2009
Good music over all. There was a DJ for most of the night, but then they had a live band for the final two hours.I heard this song again -- Journey's Don't Stop Believing over Michael Jackson's Thriller. We did the modern wedding/prom/party classic number, Bon Jovi's Livin' on a Prayer, which has apparently replaced Sweet Caroline as the song to which everyone must sing karaoke on the dance floor...

Snow day woo! Pancake breakfast time! But first, update the blog.Subchapter K of the Internal Revenue code kills puppies and makes truckers cry.I just noticed I read for class more as a 3L than I ever did as a 1L when Tranny Head called me out via Twitter...

What you're missing

I wasn't sure how I felt about Twitter at first. I've used it for a few weeks now, and with increasing regularity recently. What I like about it: the ridiculousness that I would have put up in a really short post or not at all doesn't end up clogging the blog--see the month of November ...

Shenanigans!

Posted on January 20, 2009
We were at a restaurant, so Clownfish was allowed to order a small ginger ale. The meal was wrapping up, and so before I moved his ginger ale closer -- I had taken it away so he would eat more and drink less -- I declared myself soda inspector and took a small sip...

Lawyer hair redux

Posted on January 18, 2009
It has been about six months since I've written about my lawyer hair. I even posted this picture of my last hair cut:Problem was, the guy who did the hair cut quit, so I had absolute hacks doing the maintenance trims. Seriously, it wasn't pretty. By December, I pretty much had the Christmas tree triangle head effect again and had consigned myself (once again) to excessive headband usage...

More law geekery

Posted on January 17, 2009
My friends were discussing one of their classes on health care and med mal law. They have group projects. Apparently, the professor wanted them to come up with a name for their group. Potential names included the usual puns on tortfeasors (Torts Illustrated?) and ambulance chasers etc...

Ur doing it wrong

I think I am doing law school wrong.I am a spring semester 3L and woke up at 5:00 this morning to read for class.

This will have consequences

Posted on January 14, 2009
So I dropped my 4 credit UCC class. I was already taking a 4 credit code class (business tax) and just couldn't do both. I picked up two other classes I had really wanted to take. So I went with what I wanted to take instead of what I should. And I feel good about the decision...

Changes

Posted on January 10, 2009
Made some layout changes. I finally got a 3-column layout to work. Downside, discovered too late -- to change fonts, colors of fonts and links, etc. I have to dig through the html. Can't use the blogger shortcuts. I am still looking for a nicer background...

Now, in bullet form!I was looking at a kindergarten for Cownfish for next fall. A kindergarten! This is not ok! Once they start kindergarten, it is all down hill to 8th grade graduation and then, BAM senior prom!I have a part time research project for summer firm that will take about a month...

Stolen Lines #1

I tried to think of the right answer. Unable to think of that, I spoke anyway."Uh, if a corporation distributes property and the fair market value exceeds the adjusted basis in the hands of the corporation, then the corporation will recognize a gain as if the property sold at fair market value...

Breaking down my break

Posted on January 05, 2009
Movies watched: seven... including Batman: the Dark Night and the last Indiana Jones movie and X-Files: I Want to Believe.Times I did the Electric Slide to ABBA's Dancing Queen in my kitchen: two... yes, it totally works. Shut up, ABBA is awesome.Vials of blood drawn: over twenty--I really lost count--most of which were taken in one sitting...

Half successful is maybe good enough

Posted on December 31, 2008
Last December 31, I resolved the following:Be invested in the present. Enjoy classes. Enjoy the luxury of being in school. Enjoy the externship and the journal commitments and yes, the stress. I have to say I was more successful in keeping to this mindset in the Fall semester, after a pretty good summer, than I was back in Spring...

Mommy, I'm...

Posted on December 30, 2008
Clownfish has countless sentences with those two words. Mommy, I'm a baby. Mommy, I'm a puppy named Scruffy, and you're not allergic. Mommy, I'm Lightning McQueen and I'm fast.He imagines he is a variety of animals, characters, and objects and expects me to interact with him accordingly...
