Train Wreck Part Two

ADVERTISEMENTS
If I had bet $100 on my internship backtracking/changing the story from what they told me last week then I'd be $100 richer today.

In the days that followed the conversation with HR about not coming back after the bar because I wasn't getting a permanent offer I contacted my direct supervisor as well as the supervisor above her to inquire as to what had happened, why I wasn't being considered, etc, because I wanted to know specific reasons before starting the quest for another job. As many of my friends pointed out to me last week after all that crap initally went down, I gave them 2 years, and while I gained a ton of experience that ultimately benefits me at the end of the day, they also got a lot of benefit from me and spent a lot of time and money training/grooming me so at the very least I deserve a more specific explanation as to what happened. The response I got to those emails (which were very polite and professional) seeking an explanation were comical to say the very least. Within an hour of emailing my supervisors boss (who I had worked with a little bit) I got this response from HR director:

Hi Useless Dicta,

I was mistaken when I suggested you may not be offered a position or continued internship opportunities with our office. We will be contacting you soon to talk with you about your internship this summer, etc. Please let us know what is the best number for us to reach you at during the day.

Thanks!
HR Director

Okay seriously WTF???? HR director was "mistaken" by "suggesting" that I can't intern after the bar and won't be offered a position. Conversation I had on the phone last week was not a mere "suggestion", it was a blatant, flat out "we are not hiring you and you may not return as an intern" statement. If that was a mistake then fine, at least apologize for it. I've spent the last week on a roller coaster ranging from being upset and disappointed, to angry, to deciding that I'm cut out for much bigger adventures in life, I think the least HR Director could do would be to add an "I'm sorry for the confusion, etc" to that email.

At first I was going to cut some slack for the non apology. I emailed HR director back and gave my phone number. Rather than call me, I got a short (somewhat curt) email response that merely said "contact us in August after the bar about coming back as an intern."

So there's zero reassurance that I will have a job for a couple of months after the bar exam, I therefore have no idea if I should go ahead and schedule a post bar vacay because it doesn't seem prudent to spend money (even though I do have some saved up) on a vacay if I'm going to be unemployed. For now I'm proceeding as though I don't have a job, I'm turning in applications to several state court clerkships that just opened up last week and if I find something before August I'm not calling my internship office after the bar, I'm going to just move on and never look back. I'm sick of the bullshit this office has put me and others before me through.

Thanks to all of your supportive comments to my post last week, they definitely brightened my day. Also, if I'm being unreasonable with my reaction to today's events please let me know, I realize that I may not actually have the proper perspective on this whole situation.
