Tyson Foods Settles 7 Year Class Action
Food banks across Illinois will benefit from the recently announced settlement of the Tyco Foods class action, as they will receive about 1.7 million pounds of chicken as a result of unclaimed settlement funds.
The suit, filed 7 years ago, alleged that Tyson Foods had artificially inflated the weight of poultry products sold to consumers between 1997 and 2003 through a cold-water immersion chilling process.
As part of the settlement, Tyson agreed it would donate the remainder of the unclaimed funds in the form of poultry products to the state's food banks. The retail value of the donation s about $2.3 million.
