Phish Fan Accuses Ticketmaster of Fraud, Files Class Action
A fan of the band Phish has filed what amounts to the third class action lawsuit against Ticketmaster alleging fraud for redirecting him and others to the company's higher-priced online resale site - Tickets Now.com.
John Hurley, who lives in Massachusetts, filed the suit last week, claiming the ticket site attempted to defraud him and others by "engaging in an unlawful scheme to artificially and systematically inflate the prices of events tickets." The suit claims that large numbers of concert tickets are put aside by Ticketmaster expressly for TicketsNow, so that within minutes of the tickets going on sale Ticketmaster claims they are sold out or the tickets are otherwise not available, and people are then redirected to the higher priced site.
John Hurley has filed the suit on behalf of anyone who had a similar experience in being redirected to TicketsNow when trying to buy tickets through Ticketmaster from January 15, 2008 to the present.
People who purchased Springsteen tickets are exempt from this suit, as a settlement was reached between Ticketmaster and the New Jersey Attorney General’s (AG) Office. The AG's office reportedly received more than 2,000 complaints about Ticketmaster.
