Statin Island Man Wins $1.9 Million Settlement in Medical Malpractice Suit

Evan Perez has won a $1.9 million medical malpractice settlement resulting from a suit he brought against Staten Island University Hospital, and Dr. Gilchrist.

The suit alleged that the surgeon failed to remove all of what turned out to be cancerous tumor during surgery in 2001, and as a result, and despite assurances that the tissue was not cancerous, the cancer spread to Perez's ribs. Perez had to undergo additional surgery elsewhere to remove a growth on four of his right ribs.
