Steamy date...

Posted on February 16, 2010
Friday, shortly after I realized that my work had become an obsession, and while I sat waiting for the tow guy to jump start my car, I responded to a guy on the online dating site. He?d been emailing me since October, and I?d flaked countless times. Earlier in the week, he?d sent a final note asking me to accompany him to see a folk singer, promising this was the last time he?d bug me...

I might be musically bipolar...

Posted on February 15, 2010
As much as I love the shuffle option on my ipod, I will admit that I'm the type to play a certain song over-and-over-and-over again until I can no longer stand to hear it.Last month I had two. I alternated between:Bad Romance by Lady GaGaANDIf I Needed You by Townes Van Zandt (as performed by Ray Benson)???If you know these two songs, you know they sound NOTHING alike.

Perspectives and Caldo de Turkey...

Posted on February 14, 2010
So I started writing this long post about my Friday, and suffice to say, a dead car battery yesterday morning turned out to be the wake-up call that I needed to realize that work is consuming my life as of late.Yes, there?s a lot of work, and yes, I?m on a learning curve, and yes, most days I?m happier in the office than anywhere else BUT I shouldn?t be canceling weekend vacations last minute

This is your life, Charlie Brown...

Posted on February 03, 2010
The time: 9:40 pm on a Wednesday. The predicament: You have a 10 pm conference call (on a preeetty sensitive matter) and can't locate your blackberry. The crisis: This is what constitutes my current definition of horror?Does anyone else feel compelled to walk away from their life and join a clothing-optional commune that sustains itself by harvesting organic goat cheese? No?Just me?

Seriously, WTF?

Posted on January 31, 2010
On Wednesday this blog had 800 hits. My stat sheet only holds the last 500 hits, so I can't see *what* brought everyone here that day. If you know why this page was so exciting on that day, please tell me. (It looks like someone linked to the Six Year Race post...

Why You Shouldn't Eat Alone?

Posted on January 30, 2010
A friend I met in Paris called around 5 pm today to cancel our evening plans. To tell the truth, I was somewhat relieved. This was a long week, and I was perfectly content to spend a quiet night with the dog and pack it in early. The only downside, I wasn't particularly in the mood to cook anything...

Resolutions for the New Year?

Posted on January 28, 2010
The other day I jotted down a few areas that I wanted to work on...you know, like resolutions for the New Year.1. Go to bed by 11 pm.Hmm, yeah, I'm guessing I've done this about 35-40% of the time since January 1.2. Wake up by 7 am. [Thanks to the commenter for the edit...

Things that feel weird...

Posted on January 27, 2010
(After law school, I mean)You leave work...later than you would have at any job you've had before. You go home, do stuff around the house, go out and meet friends for dinner. You get home around 10 pm and sit down at your computer to do work, answer emails, and prepare (?) for the workday tomorrow...

The Bridesmaid's Dress...

Posted on January 26, 2010
Although I?d scheduled a Sunday date with Wine-Time-Girl to pick out a champagne-colored bridesmaid dress at David?s Bridal, I found myself walking through the doors Saturday afternoon.I did it because:a) I had the time;b) I was apparently the only bridesmaid who hadn?t yet ordered her dress;c) I found myself unopposed to facing the challenge at that moment; andd) Let?s face it...

Four Questions...

Posted on January 25, 2010
Dear Blog Readers,Will you help a girl out? I've got a friend who's currently trying to put together a CLE. The CLE will revolve around new lawyers and how to act, ethics, professional etiquette, etc.If you could ask a panel of seasoned lawyers anything, what would you want to know?Put your questions in the comments...

The Six Year Race...

Posted on January 25, 2010
(It's a long post...sorry, that happens sometimes...and it is a six-year narrative.)I spent two years planning for law school. I researched schools almost painstakingly ? examining their admission grids on the LSAC site to determine which ones favored LSAT and which ones favored grades...

Saturdays in the New Year...

Posted on January 16, 2010
You want to know what one of the best feelings is to wake up with on a Saturday morning? ?I feel like throwing stuff out.?Yes! It?s awesome. Although I didn?t like moving to an apartment with a shoebox-sized closet, I?m starting to appreciate it. The less space you have, the less you can hold...

Armchair Parenting...

Posted on January 13, 2010
This whole brouhaha between a Dallas-suburb school district and the parents of a 4 year old pre-K student has really gotten my panties into a wad based on the actions of both parties. To give you a little background, the 4 year old has been placed in in-school suspension for the last few months over the length of his hair (and not particularly long hair at that)...

Bye-Bye Boy...

Posted on January 12, 2010
When Musican Boy wanted to come over, I wondered if it might be worse to see him. After four months, I still thought of him, but was doing ok without him, and I kinda worried about potentially opening the door again. In the end, it was a good thing. Seeing him again, the way he used to be, served to validate the feelings that I?d felt for him...

I hate my Blackberry...

Posted on January 12, 2010
Wanna know why?I do international stuff - which means that when I wake up in the morning, am feeling groggy and tired and mopey and whiny, and I check the thing...because I *HAVE* to...I have at least 20 emails waiting for me. Dude, these people are on the other side of the world...

Really I'm just a rebel...

Posted on January 11, 2010
I love that I?m thoroughly engaged at my job. However, I hate it that it leaves me tired in the evening, unable to think or have the motivation to write, but hey, I?m trying.Tonight?s topic? Buying a home. When I went to law school, it was in order to fulfill one dream...

New Year's Eve...

Posted on January 11, 2010
It?s been hard to write a follow-up discussing my interaction with Musician Boy because I find that my emotional reaction to all of it changes from day to day. First there was happiness, then utter shock, then hurt, and now?(FYI - I wrote an MB history in the post before this - for those who want a context...

So the call from the Ex?

Posted on January 11, 2010
It was Musician Boy. Because it?s been awhile, I?ll give you a short recap of my time with MB. We met at a party shortly after I finished the bar. While most of the guests were dressed-up, MB rolled in unkempt and in flip-flops after spending the day surfing in Galveston...

Starting the year off on the right foot?

Posted on January 05, 2010
Ok, so I actually removed this post. I was trying to get myself in the writing mood, but it didn't seem to be working. If you read today/yesterday and want to know how it ends, I'm still planning on writing something. If you missed it, the post didn't say much...

Top 25 Most Played Songs on My Ipod?

Posted on December 10, 2009
So, I won the ipod a year ago, and we?ve been inseparable ever since. But it wasn?t until a few days ago that I looked to see what I listened to the most.I have to say, some were surprising while others were downright embarrassing, so without further ado?25...

Oh wow...

Posted on December 10, 2009
Ok, so I'll admit, I don't even remember *what* the original article was about because it's the comments that are really getting me.Browse through them, and you'll find a ton that are grossly sexist and offensive (to both genders), but the ones that seemed to horrify me the most, that shocked me beyond belief are the ones where:certain men seem to think women are responsible for the recession -

Week and a half passed, must write something...

Posted on December 09, 2009
Ok, so I?m just going to start typing and see if I can eek out a half-way decent post.Hmmm, I received a letter today saying that my student loans are now out of deferment. So much for living the high life ? and by high life, I mean ordering the $8 glass of wine as opposed to the $5 one at my neighborhood bar...

Vote For Namby!

Posted on December 01, 2009
The Namby Pamby Lawyer (formerly Law Student) is a finalist in the ABA Journal Blawg 100. Congrats NP.Namby's been around for-evah - and unlike me, he still actually writes about law stuff...and also, unlike me, he's managed to maintain his wit since graduating from law school...

Law School Searchers...

Posted on November 30, 2009
I'm getting a lot of hits lately from people who are trying to figure out how to scope out a law school or how to choose which law school to go to.I hate to break it to you, BUT the economy sucks right now, law schools are flooded with applications, more schools are getting accredited by the ABA every day, AND...

Oh, Johnny D...

Posted on November 29, 2009
When I was a kid, my father had a serious man-crush on John Denver. Whenever my family was gathered around a campfire, which in my youth seemed like every other weekend, my father?s guitar repertoire consisted of two factions ? every John Denver song known to man and the entire Peter, Paul, and Mommy album...

Snapshots...

Posted on November 29, 2009
The other day I had a cut and hunted down some ointment. When I found the tube, the sight of it made me smile, and I thought, ?Wow, it must be over a year since I?ve used this.?You?re probably wondering, ?Uh, Ana. What?s so weird about the tube??Well, I?ll give you a hint...

The Self-Contained Thanksgiving...

Posted on November 26, 2009
Because I?ve lived more than a thousand miles away from my family since the age of eighteen, making a quick jaunt home for Thanksgiving has never really been an option. This usually leaves me with two scenarios: spend Thanksgiving with a friend and their relatives or join a group of friends at their house for Thanksgiving...

Oh, that's sad...

Posted on November 24, 2009
I was just sitting outside on my deck smoking a cigarette. When it was finished, I put it out and thought, "Well, I'm tired. I guess I'll get ready for bed."Then I walked inside and saw that it was 8:30 pm.And even after that, I'm *still* thinking about going to bed...

TLAWALAM ? Now with MORE Martha!

Posted on November 23, 2009
A few days ago I was on the phone with my Dad, and he asked how she was enjoying her pet store gift card. The parents sent her *quite* the present after she saved the day with the break-in.Um yeah, I hadn?t used it. Martha has treats galore and a tendency to destroy any toy she?s given...
