Ave Maria School Of Law Begins New Life In Naples (Video)

Posted on March 22, 2009
Tom Monaghan, the founder of Domino's Pizza and Ave Maria School of Law, recently strolled to the microphone and said ?I?ve done this with hundreds of pizza shops,? as he, acting dean Eugene Milhizer and three students, cut the ribbon to officially begin the Ave Maria School of Law?s life in Naples, Florida...

God And Man At The University Of California - Hastings

Posted on March 20, 2009
There is not much to say because the decision issued is very short. But, the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals issued a one-paragraph decision in Christian Legal Society v. Kane, (9th Cir., March 17, 2009), upholding the right of the University of California - Hastings College of Law to impose its policy against discrimination on the basis of religion and sexual orientation on a student religious group seeking formal recognition...

A Stimulus Practice Niche (I Mean Stimulus Strike Force)

Posted on March 20, 2009
I guess there are literally trillions of reasons why some law firm would develop such a niche. I received an email from a reader. Attached to it was the article from the St. Louis Business Journal about this very subject. The Big Law firm of Stinson Morrison Hecker, LLP has formed a "new temporary practice group"...

Free Napkin

Posted on March 17, 2009
I get it. Go to a restaurant and the paper products are free. And, such is the amazing thing about FreeNapkin.Com. It is kind of like Ebay without the payment. It is the Internet equivalent, I guess, of calling Goodwill or some local church group to take the old stuff from your home so you can replace it with new stuff...

Your Senators Need To Support Senate Bill 61 - Helping Families Save Their Homes In Bankruptcy Act Of 2009. These Videos Show Why.

Posted on March 16, 2009
I think what these videos show are banks and lenders seemingly not working with people in any constructive way to save their homes. It is haphazard at best. It also show people not so much plagued by terribly bad decisions but by reasonable risks except for the economy leading them to unemployment of underemployment...

Best Video Of Blowing Up Bridges Every

Posted on March 16, 2009
Alright. I understand that blowing up bridges does not have a lot to do with the law. (But wait, maybe there is some legal niche there). Sometimes, however, you just like to see things getting blown apart to the proper tempo. It just appeals to something deeper in most lawyers.

Parade Makers

Posted on March 15, 2009
I think that normally a parade maker refers to someone that consistently drives under the speed limit, causing a backup of autos and, in cities like Houston, creating untold levels of frustration. I am here to tell you that there are parade makers in court as well...

Susan Cartier Liebel was kind enough to originally post this article on her blog Build A Solo Practice. Susan has also just launched Solo Practice University, an innovative online learning environment. ___ "I'll tell ya' the truth", as they say in East Texas, this economic downturn has got lawyers as jumpy as spit on a hot skillet...

What's That? You Can't Work At Home Because You Need Social Interaction?

Posted on March 13, 2009
I know what you are thinking. Sure, it would be nice to wake up in the morning and not have to rush out the door into busy traffic in the commute to work. You would have time to make yourself a decent breakfast and maybe actually enjoy a cup of juice, tea or coffee...

Law School Applications Down In Hard Economic Times

Posted on March 13, 2009
Although there is some anecdotal information to the contrary, Michelle's Law School Blog reports that the LSAC is reporting that nationwide applications are down about one percent instead. Wendy Margolis, spokeswoman for LSAC, said, "In past economic [downturns], we have seen some upturn...

Virtual, Solo, Or Work From Home Law Practice Are Not Niches

Posted on March 12, 2009
I do not mean to be critical because there is no reason to be critical of lawyers who either operate or wish to operate virtually or as solos or from home. I operate my practice in each of these ways. It is admirable. But, operating in these ways do not represent niches that are relevant to anybody but the lawyer doing so...

Junk The LSAT

Posted on March 11, 2009
Here is a real shocker. I did not do all that well on the LSAT. My wife did not do all that well on her LSAT. My daughter graduated from a challenging program from the University of Texas in the upper 2% of her graduating class and she did not do that well on the LSAT...

If You Are Thinking Of Starting A New Practice Stop Worrying About The Wrong Things

Posted on March 09, 2009
Before I begin let me say that if you have not visited Solo Practice University, you should. I was just hanging out there, and found this inspiration about the wrong priorities of enter into a new law practice.__________ From what I know, what I have done, and what I see so many new practice lawyers do wrong is concentrating on the wrong thing when thinking about or establishing a new law practice...
