Customer Service is FREE!

By Jack

ADVERTISEMENTS

A few old age ago, Prince Philip Bing Bing Crosby wrote a best-selling book, quality IS FREE.

Countering the perceptual experience that producing flawless merchandises is costly, Crosby shows that the nest egg achieved, especially in manufacturing, by doing something right the first time, and by avoiding recollections and repairs, is an attempt that more than than than pays for itself.

In the same spirit, I'm here to shout from the rooftops that client service IS FREE.

This is to counter a growth and debilitating belief that providing service, especially through human beings, is a dearly-won frill, unnecessary, and old chapeau when engineerings such as as the Internet can be used to supply information and to advance much cheaper self-help.

Companies are gutting their client service staffs, in some lawsuits after having outsourced them at a surprisingly higher cost--30% higher according to a Gartner Group study--but with lessened quality.

There is a cardinal misperception regarding service that clutters our thought and takes to the slashing of preparation budgets and the evisceration of service staffs, everywhere:

Accountants, trading operations officers, and the companies they function have got got wrongly labeled client service as a COST.

The deduction is that a dollar invested in a individual that replies inquiries and composures concerned companies gains back something substantially less than a dollar in repetition business, referrals, add-on sales, positive populace relations, and employee satisfaction.

This perceptual experience have never been conclusively proved.

There simply aren't many surveys that even seek to measure the impact client service have on the underside line, whether it is the consequence of an individual rep on her clients, or the impact a company's service programme have on retaining and enhancing its client base, or the personal effects service is responsible for producing across an industry or the economy, as a whole.

We see many averments that "It is 6 times" or "8 times" or "10 times" more dearly-won to set a new client onto the books than to reserve an existent one, but how many companies have client satisfaction monitoring techniques in topographic point that gaining control the service events and specifically say: "Emily saved this customer, whose expected life-cycle value to our house is Ten Dollars, by using an effectual communications protocol for client dealing handling"?

Less dramatically, how many houses path what everyone looks to state is the Holy Place Grail of service, client loyalty? More to the point, can your organisation accurately foretell which of today's clients will remain with you and which will bolt, before it's too late?

Rare as they are, such as as metrics can be found, and we must develop more than of them.

For example, my TEAMEASURES (TM) or Telephone Effectiveness Appraisal Measures (TM) monitoring device client minutes for what we term, "Recommitment." This is a pledge, or its equivalent, that a client will go back to make added concern with us.

This STATED INTENTION, ELICITED UNOBTRUSIVELY AND VOLUNTARILY FROM THE CUSTOMER, operationally defines Loyalty, enabling it to be purposely evoked, tracked, monetized, and rewarded both for the client and for the service rep that engenders it.

Without devices such as TEAMEASURES' and the systematic idea and research and investing they embody, client service departments, and service suppliers in general, neglect to warrant their existence, and quietly disappear.

In this sense, failing to appreciate that client service is free, is the most dearly-won client service error of all.
