Can a debt owed in France be collected in the United States?
While studying in France, I was physically assaulted by a French citizen. I was hospitalized for several days and was performed a surgery. I did not pay for the services provided since I am a victim and France did not offer support to protect me or find the attacker. The French embassy contacted me, requesting the money for hospitalization. They have threatened to contact the US collection services. Will US collections take the case of another country? What are my rights?
