: Cook County Personal Injury LawyerFood additive with possible salmonella link triggers recall
By Kristina Labanauskas
On Thursday, the Food and Drug Administration announced a potentially massive recall of salad dressing, chip dip, soup mixes and other foods made with a commonly used food additive hydrolyzed vegetable protein, as it may be contaminated with salmonella.
The additive is used in many foods but so far there has not been any links to illness. According to the FDA, at present there a low risk to consumers.
Salmonella causes infections marked by diarrhea, vomiting, fever and abdominal pain. Healthy people generally recover without treatment, but salmonella can kill the very young, the elderly and people with weak immune systems.
