Mars Petcare US Announces Pet Food Recall

Mars Petcare US recently announced the voluntary recall of pet food manufactured at its Everson, Pennsylvania facility, based on potential salmonella contamination. Salmonella can cause ?serious infections in dogs and cats? as well as people - particularly children, the elderly, and people with compromised immune systems. It is possible for animals to be carriers of salmonella and to infect other animals or humans.

Mars Petcare US states that, despite there being no direct link between the product produced at Everson and human or pet illness, it is taking precautionary action to protect pets and their owners. The recall includes all products produced at Everson from February 18, 2008 to July 29, 2008. Many of the brands included in the recall are national brands produced in facilities through the country, thus the recall is only effecting a small portion of the manufacturing base. Some of those brands include: Country Acres, Members Mark, and Pedigree.
