: Ross Ipsa LoquiturInternet Explorer 8 ? (yawn)
By Ross
This seems to be my week for frustrating rants. With the latest Internet Explorer 8 being my next victim. Truly, am I missing something here? I downloaded the new IE8 earlier this week. My impressions so far are:
- (intentionally blank)
- (intentionally blank)

Seriously, what was the point of this update. Looks the same (confusing and unappealing interface). Doesn’t seem compatible with a number of sites (just tried to send a Hallmark e-card with it and it errors out on several pages that Firefox has no trouble with). Maybe all the intelligence at Microsoft these days is focused into SharePoint or Windows 7 development these days. ‘Cause it sure isn’t showing in the new IE8.
If you want some browser run, you should be using Google Chrome with its elegantly simple/brilliant “omnibox” combining the URL box and search box into one (so simple that no one else thought to do it), Apple’s latest Safari 4 (the “Top Sites” panel display will blow you away the first time you see it - no one can hold a candle to Apple showmanship), or the latest Opera 10 Alpha - the most slickly cosmopolitan browser - it’s a beauty and FAST with its new Turbo button (which actually seems to work and is impressively stable for an “alpha” product).
Congratulations Microsoft for slipping again into mediocrity and irrelevance.
