: Law Practice ManagementInternet Explorer 8 Just Released Today
Hot off the newswire: Microsoft today announced the release of Internet Explorer version 8. It can be downloaded in 25 languages at http://www.microsoft.com/ie8 starting at noon EDT on March 19. Internet Explorer 8 is purported to be easier to use, faster, and offer leading-edge security features in direct response to people’s increasing concerns about online safety.
If you’ll recall, the last time Microsoft released a new version of Internet Explorer, there was an immediate response of “do not install this upgrade as it will not work with our product” warnings. Many had to roll back the upgrade, and as a result Microsoft scrambled to provide a roll-back patch.
I was one of those who had the upgrade automatically installed by my software administrative settings, only to get an email advisory later from Intuit, which let me know that their QuickBooks software would not work with the newest version. I had to apply the roll-back patch. It was a good three months, maybe more, before I was able to reinstall the upgrade.
Plus, there were, shall we say, some “issues” with the last release which required a few patches from Microsoft in short order. So before you click on the link provided above to upgrade your IE software, or allow it to download and install automatically, pause and think. Do you really need to be the test firm? Do you have the resources to devote to dealing with the problems which will be resolved in short order if you just wait?
Ok, forewarned is forearmed. Increased security and speed in Internet Explorer will be a great thing. Let’s just wait a little for the “big guys” to go through the pain of testing it out for the rest of us, so our ride is relatively smooth and free of buggy bumps.
