Obama-Wright Part 3: Wright was a Political Advisor

By wt

ADVERTISEMENTS
Barack Obama claims that his pastor, Jeremiah Wright, was not a political advisor. Merely a spiritual one.
Most importantly, Rev. Wright preached the gospel of Jesus, a gospel on which I base my life. In other words, he has never been my political advisor; he's been my pastor.

But even if we could say that having a man like Wright as a spiritual advisor was a wise move, it must be pointed out that Obama is mischaracterizing his relationship with Wright.

In January 2007, Obama said he consults Wright before making any "bold political moves."

Later he would base his 2004 keynote speech to the Democratic National Convention on a Wright sermon called "Audacity to Hope," ?also the inspiration for Obama's second memoir, "The Audacity of Hope."

Though Wright and Obama do not often talk one-on-one often, the senator does check with his pastor before making any bold political moves.

Uh, that's a political adviser.

Someone who you always consult before making bold political moves might not be your chief advisor. Maybe you don't make that many bold moves. (although that seems like a bad line for Obama).

But you can't say, just because you only consult them on politics every once in a while, that they're not a "political advisor."

Obviously.
