: Kentucky Law BlogJUDICIAL ELECTION: Chief Judge Shake's Response
By Michael Stevens
What is most important to you in a Supreme Court justice? Legal ability? Judicial integrity? Overall performance? Having been top rated in each of these categories year after year by the lawyers who know these candidates best, I respectfully ask for your vote.

Leadership abilities matter too on this court. Four of the seven justices must agree to make any decision. Having been trusted repeatedly with leadership positions (that's why I am chief judge; I have now been elected by the other circuit judges three times to serve as chief), I have the people skills to be a strong, effective voice on the court. When named the Louisville Bar Association's 2003 Judge of the Year, the LBA recognized my "reputation for integrity, scholarship and professionalism." As The Courier-Journal said in its editorial, "His calm demeanor and steady approach are especially valuable in a trial setting, but he also has the intellect and courage needed on the Supreme Court."
With more than 15 years of distinguished service as your judge, for justice for all, vote Jim Shake.
