Heath insurance ?rescission? - when companies to drop patients with serious illnesses, then back charge them for treatment they?ve already received - is a huge issue in this country. In California, there?s been a ton of coverage of the efforts of both patients and their lawyers, and L.A. City Attorney?s office, to stop it. (See the L.A. Times coverage here.) The terrible story of Tarsha Harris was also profiled in Michael Moore's Sicko.
