Great Moments in Journalism. After

Posted on September 12, 2010
Great Moments in Journalism. After making Pastor Terry Jones a star in order to depict Christian Americans as intolerant rubes, the media now wants to make him a martyr to free speech by exercising all the grace and style of Joseph Goebbels. Newsbusters advises: In what had to be the ultimate in condescension and elitism, MSNBC's "Morning Joe" brought Pastor Terry Jones on the show merely to

Hollywood once again distorting

Posted on September 11, 2010
Hollywood once again distorting the sacred to sell popcorn. Yes, of course, I will undoubtedly go to this movie.  But as with Legion - also starring Paul Bettany - I will snort at every theological blunder I see, as in "why are angels vulnerable to bullets?" Particularly the part where crucifixes get turned into Ninja-style throwing stars.

Posted on September 10, 2010
I feel Mark Driscoll's frustration. After reading the Twilight series, my 13 year old daughter said, "Daddy, I don't think it's good to go out with a boy who wants to kill you."  I said, "That's right, honey, not even a little." Pastor Mark Driscoll has apparently discovered "Kids Fantasy" by way of his 13 year old daughter...

Acts of the Apostasy reports: A little-known central Kansas Catholic blogger has announced that he will burn a copy of the National Catholic Reporter on his front lawn on Monday September 13, the Memorial of St John Chrysostom...

Jobs that Americans won't do. There

Posted on September 10, 2010
Jobs that Americans won't do. There shouldn't be any.  Here's a story about a new attorney who was laid off from a $160,000 litigation job and is hiring herself out to clean homes. Good for her.  I bet that she has a housecleaning empire in a few years.

Great Moments in Public Speaking. Via NRO. Jonah Goldberg observes: You love this guy?s enthusiasm? Mother of pearl. This dude is terrifying. If I read the speech, I?d be on board. But jeez, if there was a kitten on the platform, he?d kick it across the room just to hammer home his plan to reform the recycling procedures of the Stark County Treasurers? office...

Shut up about the Ground Zero Mosque or Die! Paul Mirengoff points out that Feisal Abdul Rauf is now claiming that Americans face reprisals if the Ground Zero Mosque isn't built: In an interview with CNN's Soledad O'Brien last night, Feisal Abdul Rauf claimed that U...

Posted on September 10, 2010
Governor Christie for President! Governor Christie deals with a teacher.  The teacher delivers a long-winded politcal speech disguised as a question, and, then, when Christie responds begins to roll her head like an 8 year old.  That opens the door for Christie to deal with the reality of her behavior and the facts of educational economics in New Jersey...

If government funded leftist elitists

Posted on September 10, 2010
If government funded leftist elitists burn an American flag, desecrate a Eucharist, put a crucifix into a jar of urine, and it's all a healthy display of First Amendment protected speech.... ...but if a chickenshit little church decides to burn a few Korans, its a grave threat to life as we know it...

"The wonder is not that Obama is angry at criticism, but why he is so surprised in a weird ?how dare they?? fashion." Victor Davis Hanson analyzes Obama's singularly thin-skin: This is an old story with a long heritage. We know Obama got into Columbia; we have no idea what he accomplished there ? or whether his undergraduate transcript merited admission to Harvard Law School...

Posted on September 09, 2010
If only Afghans could marry.... I didn't know this: Western forces fighting in southern Afghanistan had a problem. Too often, soldiers on patrol passed an older man walking hand-in-hand with a pretty young boy. Their behavior suggested he was not the boy's father...

Hawkings, Scientific Faith and the Limits of Proving a First Cause. From some correspondence on the Hawkings' statement about God. Russ writes: However, while the Aristotelians/Thomists among us are clearly committed to their first cause argument, I?ve never been able to see a significant logical reason why the ?first cause? could not simply be the principles of physics: energy and matter

Of Turtles and God's Necessary Existence. Just Thomism writes: One way to consider the Five Ways:a.) Resolve to only speak per se and universally or, as the Oxford translation puts it, to speak predicates of subjects that are commensurately universal (See Posterior Analytics, Bk 1 c...

Victor Davis Hanson on College

Victor Davis Hanson on College Professors. A great piece that seems to ring true, present company excepted, of course. This story is amazing: The following is a true example of academic parsimony. A colleague of ours proved to be a gruesome murderer ? tried, convicted, imprisoned (he died in prison)...

Interesting observation about our weirdly Martian president. Vox Day observes: You can take the boy out of the madrassah But you can't entirely take the madrassah out of the politician that the boy becomes. Obama whines about his "some powerful interests" and their opinion of him: ?Some powerful interests that have been setting the agenda in Washington for a long time, and they?re not

Transgender - the rest of the story. It was big news a few years ago when L.A. Times sportswriter Mike Penner announced that he was going to "transition" into a woman.  Apparently, things didn't work out for him. He committed suicide a few years later...

For those of us who thought that repressed memories were nothing but a load of horse manure... ...we were right. "Repressed memories do not exist": The idea that traumatised people, especially the victims of child sexual abuse, deliberately repress horrific memories goes all the way back to the 19th century and the theories of Sigmund Freud himself...

Science and Metaphysics. John Lennox responds to Stephen Hawkings' claim that the Universe could have formed itself because of the "law of gravity" by pointing out that the "law of gravity" - without a lawgiver - is simply a description of things, not the cause of things: But contrary to what Hawking claims, physical laws can never provide a complete explanation of the universe...

The Dating Life. Man replaces girl friend with exact replica sex doll: A KINKY businessman couldn't bear it when his girlfriend dumped him - so he paid £15,000 to recreate her as a life-sized sex doll. The 50-year-old man took a collection of snapshots of his ex and told adult toy maker Diego Bortolin: "I want it just like her but with bigger boobs...

Lyrical History. I remember the Kingston Trio's song about "Charley, the man who never returned,"  who was condemned to ride the MTA underneath Boston because he lacked the nickel to get off the train.  It was a cute, catchy jingle. What I didn't know is that it was a campaign song and the part about "vote for George O'Brien" was a real solicitation to vote for an actual candidate in a Boston
