Election 2008 Obama wins. Let

Posted on November 05, 2008
Election 2008 Obama wins. Let us pray that he will show a depth of character and commitment that he has heretofore not demonstrated. There was no PUMA or Bradley effect. The polls were correct. Obama campaigned as a moderate to center-right candidate - opposed to gay marriage, in favor of tax cuts, etc...

California Initiatives Go here

Posted on November 05, 2008
California Initiatives Go here for a county-by-county breakdown. Interesting. The Redistricting Initiative, described as a Republican power-grab, by the usual parasites, passed. On the other hand, economic downturn or not, California voters passed tens of billions of bond measures, including one for high speed rail which will turn not a single shovelful of dirt.

Scenes from an election OK, why was he holding a nightstick? So, the police took away "nightstick guy" but left the "pollwatcher" wearing the quasi-military Black Panther garb? Huh? So it's ok to have people in white sheets and hoods standing in front of polls? I don't think so...

Posted on November 04, 2008
We'll know by tomorrow Interesting point by Sean Malstrom: am not running for President. You, the gentle reader, are not running for President. The only two people who are running for President, Obama and McCain, are going to states and sending advertising money to other states that don?t even match the public polls...

My election experience 45 seconds.

Posted on November 04, 2008
My election experience 45 seconds. The guy in front of me was at the wrong polling location; he had to go to the other table. Pretty typical. Admittedly, California is not a toss-up state. My vote pretty much went to cancel out that of some illegal alien...

God Save Us from our Democrat Masters I

Posted on November 04, 2008
God Save Us from our Democrat Masters I caught the Chuck Schumer bit comparing political speech to pornography with respect to regulation. Here's Jonah Goldberg's transcript and take on the subject: Chuck Schumer: Moron [Jonah Goldberg] I'm sorry, this may be the single dumbest thing I've heard from a politician since George Pataki said that his hate crimes legislation could have prevented

Inconvenient People UK mother murders "inconvenient" 3 year old son. Well, if the mystery of life is a voyage of self-expression.... From the article: LONDON (Reuters) - A mother who smothered to death her three-year-old son because she saw him as an "inconvenience" to her social life, was jailed for life on Monday...

Scapegoating This ad against Prop

Posted on November 04, 2008
Scapegoating This ad against Prop 8 - the Traditional Marriage initiative - would constitute "hate-speech" if it was against one of the approved minorities. But since it only singles out the Mormons, it seems that it's all good. "Ich bin ein Mormoner" Update: What the ad reminded me of was "Know-Nothing" Catholic-baiting from the 19th Century...

Posted on November 03, 2008
Laying down a marker Vox Day, author of the delightful "The Irrational Atheist," predicts a McCain victory. His reasons include: The first is my five-point rule. In general, if a Democrat leads by less than five points in the polls, he loses. I was planning to run the numbers today, but the Baseball Savant already did so I don't have to...

Election 2008 McCain leads in

Posted on November 02, 2008
Election 2008 McCain leads in Ohio and North Carolina in recent polls. Again, the question in my mind is how much the pollsters have skewed their calculations in favor of Obama. Also, consider the media malpractice in the "Joe the Plumber" case and the situation of Obama's aunt who is in America illegally and has made illegal contributions to her nephew...

Posted on November 01, 2008
The War on the Normal continues Wonkette and her fans take time out of their busy schedule to ridicule Trig Palin again: Little baby Trig must be so glad he wasn?t aborted for this, his first Halloween, because his parents dressed him up like a political party symbol to be carried around at snarling political events...

Posted on October 31, 2008
Huh? In Florida, Democrats lead in numbers who have voted, but Republicans lead in actual votes. That's not supposed to be happening. Again, grain of salt, etc., etc. Here is Wizbang citing Florida Today: Gov. Charlie Crist is taking heat from fellow Republicans for a last-minute decision to extend early voting in Florida, but any Democratic advantage might not be as overwhelming as

Happy Reformation Day I can't

Posted on October 31, 2008
Happy Reformation Day I can't decide if I want to say, "Now get over it already" or "Come home, all is forgiven." Speaking of ecumenical feelings, here is the InternetMonk's post on "Why the Reformation is still a tragic necessity." The answer is "indulgences," a practice that takes on titanic proportions in the minds of some Protestants and for most Catholics inhabits the land of "Huh? We

PUMA Democrat speechwriter for Edwards and Obama decides to vote for McCain. What seems to motivate the author, Wendy Button, is cracks in the coalition, namely the cavalierly derogatory treatment of workers and women: That?s not exactly the philosophy of a Democrat...

Posted on October 31, 2008
But will the attack poodles of the media say anything? The Obama campaign has kicked the Washington Times reporters off the campaign plane. The Washington Times probably did something unthinkable like report something inconvenient for Obama. I heard the editor at FNC making the obvious point that if Obama acts this way now, what will he be like when he has real power? All my life, I've heard

Nevada for McCain With the usual caveats, Jim Geraghty at the Campaign Spot points out an anomalous development in the Silver State: Campaign Spot reader Laurence notes an interesting wrinkle in the post below about Nevada. The guy doing the exit poll of those who have already voted, with 7,147 responses, puts Obama ahead, 50 percent to 48 percent...

Poll and be damned Vox Day suggests

Posted on October 30, 2008
Poll and be damned Vox Day suggests that Obama may go down in flames on Tuesday if the polling margin favors him by three points: The state-by-state is the important count, of course, but state polls tend to lag the national ones by a few weeks. Always shift the polls by five percent to account for the pollsters' pro-Democratic interpretations...

Posted on October 30, 2008
That Bill Clinton, always helping. Bill Clinton describes Obama's amazing ability to learn about economic matters: Clinton's explanations of why Obama is qualified were interesting, to say the least. "You know what he did?" Clinton said, heralding Obama's reaction to the financial crisis...

Poll and be damned! Just vote! Karl

Posted on October 30, 2008
Poll and be damned! Just vote! Karl Rove reflects on recent polling "mistakes" that - weirdly - always tend to suppress Republican turnout: Polls can reveal underlying or emerging trends and help campaigns decide where to focus. The danger is that commentators use them to declare a race over before the votes are in...

Patterns Victor Davis Hanson writes

Posted on October 29, 2008
Patterns Victor Davis Hanson writes about a strange patern in Obama's campaigns: Individually, the extra-electoral efforts are irrelevant. But in the aggregate, they start to add up. In 1996 Obama goes to court, challenges the petition signatures of mostly African-American voters, and gets all his rivals eliminated from the ballot and so de facto runs unopposed...
