Patent lawyer Gardella joins Irell in L.A.

Irell & Manella LLP announced today that Greg Gardella has joined the firm as a partner in their Los Angeles office. He arrives from Fish & Richardson P.C. in Minneapolis, where he was a principal.

He is a recognized specialist in patent reexamination proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He has represented parties in over forty reexamination matters. Mr. Gardella's practice also includes patent prosecution, reissue proceedings, strategic counseling, due diligence investigations, pre-suit investigations, licensing, and preparation of infringement and validity analyses. In addition, he has expertise in strategic enforcement and freedom-to-operate counseling advising companies how best to enforce their patent portfolios and take defensive measures to address allegations of patent infringement.

Mr. Gardella earned his J.D. cum laude from the University of Michigan, his M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Minnesota (top 5% of his class) and his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering magna cum laude from the University of Michigan. He is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the Licensing Executives Society. For the last six years he served as Chairman of the IP Law Revisions Committee of the Minnesota IP Law Association. Mr. Gardella was also Commissioner for the City of Independence, Minn. Planning Commission from 2005 to 2009.
